Would it be totally unfashionable to wear this at the resort pool?

I have seen lots of people with swim caps over the years at the pools, so you won't be alone.

There are 2 things I might be concerned about buying one from that particular website:
- since the site is selling solutions for people with hair loss, the caps might be designed to fit much tighter to the head and there may not be space to get your hair in
- regular swim caps don't always keep the hair dry. Since the people this website is aimed at are concerned about keeping their head protected, their caps may be designed more for style than keeping the head dry.

I'm not saying not to buy one (I think they are very cute), but I would try it out at a time when you don't care whether or not your hair gets wet.

Thank you for pointing out those things. :) But I'm only interested in getting in the pool, doing a little bit of wading and splashing with my family; not full on swimming and what not. I'll save all of my underwater swimming and stuff for the end of the trip when I careless how my hair looks - it'll all be about having fun.

Wear it I really like it is really cute.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I feel a bit better in my decision and now I look forward to doing more in the pool than I've done in past years.

I think it is darling!! I want one! You'll like a movie star from the 40's!! Very glam! Make sure you get a fantastic pair of blingy sunglasses to go with it!!!

Little back ground on me. I am a woman of color and for those of you who either are women of color or know someone who is a woman of color we do not get our hair wet. Most of us just stay on the side of the pool and won't even venture any where near the water. Last August I for the very first time in my life got my very long hair cut and I have a cute soulder lenght layered bob cut. I love it. Here's the thing tho - the day before we leave for our trip next month I plan to have my hair done. This is our first trip where we have several resort days built into our trip so much of that time will be spent with my family at the pool. They don't have the same hair issues as I do to the fact that my husband is Asian and my kids have wash and wear hair. I am trying to come up with a plan that will allow me to take a dip in the pool and splash around with them while keeping my hair dry and ready for dinner in the evenings.

I found this website that sells all sorts of swimcaps and some I thought were really cute but the problem is I don't recall seeing very many people wearing them at the pool or at the water parks. Will people look at me as though I'm from another era or another planet all together if I showed up wearing this? Towards the end of our 10day trip I will relax a bit and probably for go the cap all together but I did want to have my hair looking cute for most of the trip.

Thanks for your help.

It is very cute! I'm black too. my question is whether or not you have a relaxer? Caps are great but if you don't have a relaxer your hair going to go right back. Water does still get in...not a lot but your edges sometimes get wet. I have a relaxer so when vacation is planned i book my hair appt for 2wks before. when it comes to maintenance during vacation I go for simple. i'm not into the bone straight look but i do bring my Baybyliss Flat iron ( which I highly recommend) and a bottle of Herbal essence Curly mousse. The mousse really makes it wash and go. You could also use Carol's Daughter Tui Hair Smoothe which is great for a wet look too.

Yep, I have a relaxer. My hair texture tends to be a bit more wavey than kinky. I have an appointment for my hair the day before and I know the back of my head (the kitchen) might get a tad wet but like I've said I will not be doing any full on swimming just splashing and playing with the kids. I can deal with my edges in the back getting wet; much better than my actual hair getting wet and having to deal with the whole flat iron thing every time I step out of the pool. I will bring one but truth be told I'm hoping not to use it much - just for those emergencies my hair won't act right moments. I have the exact haircut Jenny McCarthy has right now and I love it.

My plan was to wrap my hair (you know what I mean ;)) and then put the cap on. Come in from the pool take the cap off, tie my hair up in a scarf and put the shower cap on, take a shower, dress and then uncap my hair, comb it down and whala! :cutie:

I have one with flowers all over it(think Vivica Fox in Why do Fools Fall in love) and I will be rocking mine in the pool in DW!! I use it when I take my water areobics class and the back of my hair gets a little wet when I don't wrap it with my scarf. My hair is natural but I still don't want the cholorine in it...

If you are just splashing around with the kids you should be fine as long as you're not deep sea diving:rotfl: you are much better than me! I dont do laundry or much to my hair (other than the night we go out to dinner) i own stock in goody headbands:laughing: I have every color and width out there.

I think the cap is adorable! :thumbsup2 Bring it back!!

i've actually just been thinking about past memories of when i was in college and all the things i didnt do b/c i was worried about 'how i would look' or 'what people would think.' However, i've come to realize now that the people around you are just there at that moment and once the moment is gone, so are they, so live it up and do what YOU want to do w/o caring what others think, etc. If they do care... who cares! Lol. So wear your cap and have a great time. Dont consider missing out on the fun of life.:dance3:

I have to say "GO FOR IT"! Wear whatever you like:) The cap is actually cute. Whatever works for you is what you do!

I have to say the makers of my swim suit might think that its unfashionable for me to be in my suit but who cares, I don't! Go and Have fun!!!:yay:

You're going to look fabulous if you wear that swimcap. I simply love it...and so will everyone who sees you in it. I think you'll be a trend setter and others will want one of them for themselves.

Oh definitely wear it! I wouldn't look twice at someone wearing this at a resort pool. What a great idea! I have very long, thick, color-treated (blond) hair and I was thinking about getting one to wear when I'm in the pool - at home and on vacation.

I think you will love wearing this swimcap! I buy hats & swim caps from Headcovers (I have cancer) and I can attest to their quality. I wanted to address Sue's comments above:

(1) My daughter (21) loved my swimcap so much that she got the one you listed. It's super cute & not at all too tight for her. She has a TON of hair - really thick & curly & waist length. She's not had any problems getting her hair into the cap. :thumbsup2 She's had more compliments on using this cap. I've not heard of anyone making fun of her or looking at her like she's crazy. Several have asked where they can get one like it. People who know her already know she likes retro stuff - she bought a 40's style retro 1 piece a few weeks ago. :goodvibes

(2) I buy the swimcaps for protection from sun, but also to keep the water out of my ears & off my tender scalp. The caps I've used from this site have been really great at keeping the water out. I use a different style, though, - meant to keep water out. My daughter has experienced a bit of dampness around the bottom edge of her hair when she uses hers - but she goes underwater with it. If you're not going to be swimming underwater, you should be just fine.

I hope you enjoy wearing your swimcap! Rock that retro look!
