Would Disney ever replace Indiana Jones Show with Indiana Jones Ride?

Look: they're having a good month...so disney gets a pass for now...but most "why don't they?" Questions all come back to the same place.

It's a miracle they haven't canned the stunt show and left an empty theater...to be honest.

But I guess they leave a show the same for 20 years is probably because a majority of Disney guests are either "first time" guests (so the show is new to them) or parents bringing their children back to the parks (and the old show will be "new" to them as well).

I mean . .despite it being an aged show I have seen several times ... I desperately wanted my son to see it. It just didn't work out . But I am sure he will love whatever they replace it with eventually. (or maybe we will get to see it if it is still up in 1-2 years when I hope to go back).

I don't think the majority is "first timers" or "only timers"...

...my guess is that those closely guarded demographics say they are "infrequent" visitors...the 3-5+ gap types.

But moving forward...because they have to go full on overcharge...that demographic is gonna have to change and revert back to Eisners obsession with repeat business...just at a much higher price. That's all who will be able to afford it.

We Xers are doing "ok" but aren't positioned financially like the baby boomers...
...Gen Y is in deep crapola...they won't be able to do $15,000 weeks in wdw in 10-15 years...so the audience is gonna consolidate back to the frequents again.

So things like the stunt show are gonna be rejected even more than it already has been.

I get some people like that show but I feel it's so played out. And there is almost no point in seeing it twice.

So I'm wondering if in the future there is any chance Disney replaces it with either the Indy ride in DL or the Indy ride in Paris? And would you want them to?

I agree that the show is a one and done. I have often wondered myself why they didn't replace it with the Indiana Jones ride or why the show even existed in the first place instead of the ride.

I'm not sure but I think I've heard that the Dinosaur ride at AK is really the same ride as the Indy ride at DL, just different theming.

It is, only Indy is much better. DH and I would be happy to see it make its way to DHS. DH was an opening day cast member for Indy at DLR and loves the attraction. It would be nice to see an updated version move to Florida.

There has been rumors for years that the stunt show was going away, but nothing ever comes to fruition. With plans for a 5th movie you'd think that they would try to rejuvenate the brand. But then again there's no guarantee that it will be a success, <cough> Crystal Skulls. Since Disney owns the brand it would be nice to see something done to keep it going. I thought that I read that there was consideration of casting a younger Indy in order to keep the franchise moving. Although I could be wring about that.

Not that I am trying to discount someone else's statement as much as I am trying to clarify mine). So... they took the Indy concept, and rethemed it to something else? They did spend the money, but why did they make it Dino instead of Indy in the first place? Why put in the show when the ride mechanics already exist? The lack of the ride and the addition of the show seemed a little dumb. However, this was when the park was trying to compete with Universal as being a "working movie lot", so maybe that's why?

I don't know if they lost on the ride itself (it is a fun thrill ride in a park lacking "ride" attractions), but they lost in the theming of that entire area.Dinosaur is a cool ride and has the benefit of being one of the few actual "rides" in AK (until Pandora opened up).

The dinosaur stuff COULD (and still) have been a sure win. Dinoland USA is one of the most disappointing areas of all the parks in my opinion. Kids of any generation have a "dinosaur" phase as they learn about those gigantic beasts and a dinosaur themed area could be a big draw. But, instead they chose to make "Dinoland USA" instead of an immersive Dinosaur land .. with actual .. you know .. Dinosaurs. AK is supposed to be about animals and the land .. and they came up with the concept of a cheesy tourist trap. WTH? (Again .. I know .. it didn't cost much).

My son was fascinated by one of those traveling Dinosaur exhibits (with the animatronic dinosaurs) that you see in Zoos, theme parks, etc. Our local Aquarium got some to put in their garden area and he loved it (and was scared by it at the same time) and wanted to come back.

I am surprised that AK didn't simply have a walkthrough attraction with those type of things. My son would have loved that. Or even just a water ride where you see dinosaurs (similar to Jurassic Park at Universal).

Instead we got some carnival games that no one wants to play (because .. you can find those same things at any county fair) and two kiddie rides that are fun for kids, but don't really give the young kids the "thrill" of seeing larger than life dinosaurs. And the adults get a fun thrill ride that little kids (the true dinosaur lovers) can't go on because it is too rough or scary for them.

My son slept through the Dinoland area of AK while I went on the Dinosaur ride and we've never gone back to AK since .. and when we do, we will probably just skip that area.

Well, since they say Indy is a copy of Dinosaur, and Dinosaur is a very popular ride.....why not? Several attractions are cloned between DL and WDW, so that really isn't a problem. And as far as Last Crusade, Raiders is a lot older than that and it remains the only film used for the show.

Cool! I'd love to see more Indy. Maybe this one would feature Indy's grandson or something?

The one in Tokyo is based on the crystal skull- exactly the same ride as DL except the theme, and the queue is even more epic. I was not a big CS fan, but I'd love it if that came to HS or Epcot. So it's workable, even without the next generation.

I liked the show, loathed dinosaur. I'd be okay if a ride replaced either.

The Dinosaur attraction was a tie-in to a Disney movie of the same name. It opened about a year before the movie was released and was originally named Countdown to Extinction (I think the initials CTX still appear in the attraction) and was renamed when the movie was released, but my understanding is that it was always intended as a tie-in.

I don't beleive the Tokyo one is based on the movie. It opened 7 years before hte movie came out. Think jsut happened to both have CS in the title. And if they did open a clone of IJ at Hollywood Studios then I'd be fine with them closing Dinosaur since there is still the ride one property, however I don't see Disney doing that as there is nothing wrong with Dinosaur (and AK needs the rides as there isn't a ton).
But if they did take it out they could retheme all of Dinoland into a new area with new rides and exhibits. I do think that Dinoland is fine as a mini-land. Can keept eh Corcodiles and stuff and teach about prehistoric animals. But don't think it needs all of the space that it currently takes up. Liek to see Dinorama taking down as it is so cheap and crappy looking for a Disney park. Then use the space there and the Nemo theatre for a new land themed around South America/Rainforest or Australia. Nemo would go wherever Australia ends up in a new theatre themed to Sydney Opera House.

Really? I wish I could have seen that .. a lot about AK when it first opened sounded neat (like the River boat ride).
Wow .. I think that would have been more appropriate to the area, but would have meant AK would have been sorely lacking on rides.

The first time I visited AK .. my first impression was "Ugh" .. did they just build some rides LITERALLY over an existing parking lot and just didn't bother to redo the walkways? To me the "story" of the area should be more prominent and maybe I would have "gotten" it and not have a sour taste in my mouth with the area.

They do need to do something in this spot. Whether it is an Indy attraction or not. The stunt show takes up a lot of valuable real estate that can be used more effectively. Plus looking at it from Disney's perspective, it costs a lot to replay this show. They've got to employ a lot of workers and do countless explosions.

This whole section needs a retheming stat.

Even Backlot Express can be rethemed to the warehouse from Indiana. They could repurpose some of the stuff from GMR and put it in there. Like the Lost Ark, it could be put on one of the shelves. They just have to make sure no one opens it and melts their face off.

i was blown away by Indie in DL then i rode dinosaur and was shocked by how much it sucked. i wish they would just take it out and replace it with Indie. it would also go well in adventure land. now that tron will be in MK, i doubt they will put another E ticket there.

1) The Indy ride in DL is extremely popular and the queue is pretty cool.

2) There is a new Indy moving coming in 2 or 3 years so it's not as if the franchise is dead.

It would be nice if Disney could give Indy new life like it did Star Wars, new one is supposed to be out July 2020. I would go nuts if they'd do an Indy land, but won't hold my breath unless the movie is crazy big somehow.
