Hi,

I just recently purchased in December at DVC at BCV and we live about an hour from the resort. I called and asked if, as a DVC owner, we could use the pool facilities and was told no. Guest Services told us that unless we were staying the night in the hotel that we could not use the pool and facilities. What a bummer!!!!

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this? My sister owns a timeshare at Ron Jon's in Cape Canaveral and they get 100% access to the pool year-round even if they do not stay there. Would it really add that much traffic to the pool area? Would adding more traffic be a good idea, given that people would spend money at the resort?

What member services told you sounds exactly right to me. I don't want people who aren't using points to stay at a resort being able to crash the pool. Yes, the traffic does make a huge difference, especially at BCV (which is why there is no pool hopping there in the first place). No, increased traffic is not a good thing...what kind of money are pool crashers spending anyway? Nowhere near what people who are staying at the resort are spending. It's a resort, not a swim club.

If it were limited to just the DVC members with ownership at BCV, you would think that the increased activity would be minimal.

That's coming from someone who wouldn't know how to crash a pool though, I'm sure here in Florida there are others however.....

I understand what your saying, however just think of the amount of people that would crowd the pool area's if that was allowed. It's hard enough trying to find space at most pools with just the guests staying there let alone people who are not staying there. That would be a horrible mistake if ever allowed.

I think there are a lot of FL residents who own DVC, or who move to FL after purchasing DVC.

Increased traffic would increase dues, as more maintenance of the pool iteself, and more lifeguards, would be required. Plus parking is already a problem at some resorts, so it would make a bad situaton worse, or increase dues to build more parking.

Some, not all, timeshares allow day visits by local owners, and I'm perfectly happy that it is not allowed by DVC.

SAB is crowded enough without adding the DVC members who own there but are not registered there for a stay to the mix. A couple of sodas or a burger or two doesn't pay for the use of the pool.

Sorry, but Ron Jon doesn't get the traffic that WDW gets. Feel free to buy there for the pool access if it is important to you.

As a BCV owner, I would hate it if FL residents were allowed to use SAB if not staying there. If you use the same rational, all DVC owners who own BCV could come over and use SAB when staying at another DVC resort, or even off-site. I can only imagine how crowded the pool and water slide would be.

Just think of the number of owners who love the pool at SAB so much that they buy a small contract just to own there so they could use the pool when staying at other DVC resorts.

It could end up making it an overcrowded situation. As others have said, this is why pool hopping for DVC members is suspended at this resort (and a few others).

I think that would become the real problem - owners staying somewhere else hopping over to SAB. Or local residents using SAB as a cheap "country club." This is one of those things that would scale poorly quickly and create real issues for those $500 a night Y&BC guests.

It will never happen unless Disney sees a benefit to allowing it. Using the pools doesn't make Disney any money compared to dining, visiting the parks, or DTD.

I don't think it matters what other timeshares do. It's not an accurate comparison. The Disney resorts exist well outside the "normal" world of timeshares because they serve such a large number of cash and resort guests. And when you consider how crowded the pools already are at times, adding any number of people who can use it freely when not staying at the resort would make it even worse.

I don't know of anywhere that gives pool use cart blanche. All I know of do it on a space available basis. I'd say it's about 50/50 for those that do and those that don't for owners at that resort. Marriott's allow it at all I know of if you own at that resort, Bluegreen allows it at many of their resort for any BG owner. However, DVC does not have enough facilities to satisfy the demand for such a program so I don't see any way they could do this. ASAMOF, I think the pool hoping option currently available is likely to get away in the next few years.

This is not true, as a guest at a Walt Disney Resort you are more than welcome to have friends join you at your pool or vice versa. This is not considering pool hopping, this is spending time with your family and friends and Disney has no issue with this. I have done this many times on many stays and have always confirmed with Disney prior to doing it and receive the same answer each time....of course I can have guests visit me at my resort and enjoy the amenities at the resort.

This is not true, as a guest at a Walt Disney Resort you are more than welcome to have friends join you at your pool or vice versa. This is not considering pool hopping, this is spending time with your family and friends and Disney has no issue with this. I have done this many times on many stays and have always confirmed with Disney prior to doing it and receive the same answer each time....of course I can have guests visit me at my resort and enjoy the amenities at the resort.

Every time we have stayed at BC or BCV, each member of our family had to show their room card to get an arm band to gain access to the pool. I know my kids had to show their arm bands to use the slides, etc.

DVC members have pool hopping privileges to other DVC resorts & Disney owned resorts unless it is during blocked dates or pool is determined to be at capacity but hopping is always restricted at SAB & all YC/BC/BCV pools unless staying at YC/BC/BCV on points or cash (AKL/AKV & BLT restricted from hopping too, only guests staying at AKL/AKV resort on points or cash reservation can use pools at this particular resort, etc)

As a DVC member staying on points reservation YOU & your guests in your villa or your guests staying in villa you've booked for them with points as part of your trip together would be allowed to hop to POP's pool; but your friends staying at POP cannot hop over to your pool. You can add your friends names to your villa reservation at BCV if this doesn't exceed the max number allowed for size of villa & then they'd be able to be at SAB no question (or book them villa at BCV with your points for night).

Guests at non-DVC Disney owned resorts do not have pool hopping privileges except if they're staying where there's a 'sister' resort situation like Port Orleans Riverside-French Quarter and All Stars resorts. See link to Disney site stating pool use at Disney resorts:

That's not to say that guests at Disney owned resorts do not try to pool hop to both DVC resorts & other Disney owned resorts alike and of course there are always reports that many may have done so successfully & even asked at a resort & been given the green light by CMs that they may (probably if pool is not at capacity) I think this is what poster camlace's experience has probably been; but if you read what Disney has stated regarding pool use it states 'pools are for use only for guests of that specific resort hotel'.

Of course there is nothing stopping you from asking the lifeguard in charge if your friends may join you at SAB but you'll most likely be told no so have Plan B ready in advance for where everyone can spend time together if this turns out to be the answer that you & visiting friends are told at SAB.

Officially, pool use is for registered guests of the hotel only. There was a big hoo-ha here a few years ago over a woman who was going to use her points for a studio for her and her daughter and invite a classroom full of kids to SAB for a birthday party. The resort told her "no - it doesn't work like that."

It is quite possible that you will either not get caught - or be permitted to do so on a space permitting available basis if you ask - but pools are for resort guests only - not resort guests and their family and friends.
