For Christmas i got my 18 year old boyfriend a keychain with his initals engraved on one side and our anneversary on the other. His grandparents will probably give him their old car for christmas so i thought that would be cute. I also got him a Picture of us in a cute picture frame. Would he like it? :confused3

Honestly...no. I mean, the keychain is a cute idea, but the pic is something a girlfriend would like, not a boyfriend. Teen boys want toys, not sentimental knicknacks. Remote control cars, video games, books maybe, etc. Heck...most of the grown "boys" I know want this stuff. Girls like the sappy gifts...guys just don't put as much stock in them.

Disclaimer: obviously, there are guys who don't fit this mold. Yours may be one. Not to be construed as expert advice. Your mileage may vary. :)

Sorry, I've got to agree with Maleficent on this one. If you want to get your boyfriend something he would like, then get him some things for the car itself -- jumper cables, tire pressure gage, floormats, etc.

A keychain with your anniversary date on one side sounds adorable, but it's something that a girl would like a lot more than a guy.

Yeah, it takes all kinds of guys! Wayyy back when DH and I were 18ish and dating, we exchanged a good many pictures of us as gifts. Honestly, I could never think of much else that I thought would make a good present! 12 years later, we still have some of those pictures around. I like the keychain idea, too.

I don't want to sound mean but no he most likely won't like it. Girlfriends are more into sentimental gifts than boyfriends, especially at that age. My guy friends are in their early-late 20's and they definately wouldn't want something sentimental. I'm almost 21 and I'm a girl and I don't think I would even like something like that.
Maybe get him a gift certificate to a store he likes. That way he can pick out something he really wants. :)

ETA: Sorry if I sounded harsh, I didn't mean anything by it. :sunny:

depends on the guy-there are some sentimental ones out there. i recall one (that i'm still married to) who loved a tie clasp i got for him while we were still "just friends" (when he was trying to convince to date him he constantly wore ties but never had a tie clasp). he still has it to this day (and it was a cheap thing :goodvibes )-when i recently asked why he still had it he said "when you gave me this, it was something personal and i knew there was a chance at us being more than "just friends" :love2:

if it's in the budget to do more than one gift-i'de get him something he would have fun with (video game, dvd, case of motor oil for that old car :) )-but i would'nt cancel out on the key chain.

My boyfriend is 21 and wants countless amounts of dvds (he's a film major), a nintendo DS (which i refuse to buy....when is he going to play it????), speakers for his ipod...and that's pretty much it. His mom got him some clothes, and movies, I got him like $200 worth of movies and a digital camera.

I like the keychain idea, and the picture is cute as long as there is something boy-ish to go along with it....gift certificate to best buy or something??

My DD's ex-sometimes-current-boyfriend (17) is a sweet warm wonderful guy, and I think he'd like both those gifts, and honestly, he'd just be happy spending time with her on Christmas. (I think they're kind of sort of almost getting back together...I hope.)

When DH and I were dating, he was 18 and I gave him a engraved keychain! It came with 2 one for him and one for me and you can fit them together (like a puzzle). He loved it and still has it (we are in our 40's). So I think some guys do like that kind of thing! Mine certainly does.

Even if he doesn't like it I would hope that he wouldn't say it. If you are worried about it, I would go by him some kind of electronic toy, or something for the car as a gift to add to what you already bought.

I think yes,I did this for my dh when we were teens witht the date we started going together.6-29-90...He still has it,it's not on his keychain anymore because it is so worn but I think it's a nice idea...

YEAH!!! Your internet is working again! :rotfl2: (It was down for a while).

I told you today, but I think he will LOVE it! Especially since its from you. He'll love the keychain and the picture. You could always throw in that lime green you-know-what if your questioning it. LOL.

I have twin sons who are 18 and am surrounded by boys of this age. He may or may not love it. But his friends will bust on him about it if he shows them. They'll call him names like whipped, and say it's a leash, stuff like that. Sorry but 18yo guys are cruel to each other. And they're not in the sentimental stage yet, at least not in public. I"ve seen some of the guys crushed by a break up but generally they'd never admit that either.

That is very true. I can just picture Disney Princess's (hopefully you know who I'm talking about SnowAngel) boyfriend. UGH. BTW, Disney Princess (DP) is a friend of ours and her boyfriend is SnowAngel's best friend. He will love it, but DP's boyfriend will have a field day with it and you knkow it. Give it to him when DP's boyfriend isn't around and hopefully they won't ask about the gifts. LOL.
