my dec trip to Disneyland. My two oldest boys have probably had it, but my 8 year old and I haven't. We aren't eligible yet, but I'm so anxious! Kids under 10 need two shots four weeks apart and need two weeks after the last shot to develop full immunity. We leave for DL on Dec. 15 and I had an appointment to get our shots for Tuesday but have been told we are no longer eligible. I don't care about me, I can wait another 3 weeks, but my 8 year old is not going to be protected and off we go to the busiest place on earth full of thousands of germs. Right before the holidays!

I don't want to get sick in DL and end up missing our flights back, or heaven forbid needing to go to hospital in the states.

I've heard that people are lying about having asthma in order to get their shots early which really, really upsets me! I think kids under 10 should be in high risk zone as they spread the disease so easily and it takes so long for them to build immunities.

I know there's nothing to be done, but I needed to vent.

Anyone else having trouble planning a vacation because of swine flu fears?

My oldest boy was quite sick...fever for 6 days, and now he just coughs his lungs out and sounds awful. Every day I send my 8 year old to school , I feel like I'm sending him to the front line...will he come back healthy?

Sigh.

Not sure where you in Canada but anyway, I hear you. We are leaving mid December and my family has been vaccinated (lucked into early clinics) but I haven't and I'm high risk (couldn't do the vaccination when it was offered due to suffering from H1N1) and although my worrying is lessened (just me) I can absolutely understand where you are coming from. Hard to get excited about the future when you are focused on worrying about the present. Do what you can, and I'm visualizing a pretty fabulous trip for all of you!

We're leaving for a DCL cruise in early December and I'm just a tad worried about the flu. Only my brother has had the H1N1 shot and it doesn't look likely that I'll have the shot in time for the cruise. Most of my planning has occurred already so the paranoia hasn't really interfered with planning.

I find myself saying, "If I'm gonna get it...give it to me NOW so it doesn't interfere with the trip." I guess I should be careful what I wish for, eh?

I'm hoping the cold that I'm still recovering from has strong little virus bugs that will fight off the H1N1 bugs for total domination of my puny little body. :rotfl:

One thing I find annoying about the vaccination clinics is they are saying that the lines are shorter, but they have yet to change the priority groups.
There are going to be some people in high risk groups that for personal reasons do not want the vaccination, so the rest of the people have to wait until Ms Health Minister detemines that everyone else can get it.
All school age children should have had it by now.
Do you not think that Dalton and David didn't get it before their little trip to Mexico last week ?

I'm absolutely infuriated by the vaccine role out. I don't mind waiting, but all children under 10 should get their shots as they need two to be completely protected.

I was told by one of my students (I work at a university) that many students were getting their shots. I asked how they jumped the line and he said they just told the nurses they had asthma.

I find this whole process very badly done. First they spend millions telling us we MUST have our vaccine, and then they spend millions telling us to be patient and wait until everyone else has had it.

I also feel that folks who are travelling should be eligible very soon to get a shot as they are vulnerable to catching it on their trips, or spreading it. Some people will just travel even if sick in order not to miss their vacation so they will just be spreading it even further.

I am very frustrated. Can you tell?

Actually, I think the problem right now is there isn't any vaccine. I think once they get the next big shipment, they'll have a few more days of priority and then open it up for the free for all. I'm hoping my family doctor gets some vaccine. I mentioned that I was going on a cruise in December and he said, rather casually, that he'd have me vaccinated before then. :confused3 I hope that means he'll get some when they become available.

Funny how the words, "You're too healthy" takes on a different meaning when you want to get your flu shot. I guess I take solace in the fact that if I do get the flu, I won't die from it...and the priority groups need to get the shot now because if they do get it, they may die. But, yeah, as every day passes, patience wanes a bit...and anxiety takes over.
