HELLO,
i am getting nervous over our stay at SSR in May.I have 3 kids that love the parks and pools.I have been been reading so many negative reviews lately about bus service!I honestly dont think my kids are going to appreciate waiting 30 minutes for a bus.We went in 2004 and stayed at POFQ and the bus service was fabulous, never waited more than 10-15 minutes for a bus!!
Has anyone been lately with some input on this! Please help...

We had a car when we stayed there last year, so I can't help with that. But, I can assure you that the main pool is fantastic! Zero depth entry, beautifully landscaped, fun slide---DS9 loved it! Also, it was a very pleasant walk to DTD during the day (they close off the pathway after dusk). It was great to be right on the water, across the lake from DTD and see all the lights, etc. at night.

Hopefully, someone else can help with the bus issue!

thank you for your reply.I wont have a car at this resort. :guilty:
the pool is very nice looking.I am just very nervous of the recent horror stories over the bus situation.I am wondering if i should try and change my resort but we rented points for this stay but i am very concerned.I hope they have improved their bus service but im thinking not.I even researched views away from this board and the main con has been the bus service.1 review said he waited at Epcot 1 nite for 1 1/2 hours for a bus!!That would be so disappointing for my family as we are not fortunate enough to go to Disney each year!!!
Thanks and hopefully somenone can give a review or suggestion.

I love SSR and the wait on buses was never a problem. Whenever I travel solo I always take bus transportation in the morning but I have never taken a bus at the end of the evening to go back to my resort so I can't be accurate on wait times for that part of the trip. I ususally take a taxi to my resort in the evening so I don't have to stand but thats just me and it doesnt matter what resort we are staying.

The pool area is wonderful for families. It has a slide, and is zero entry. There is a darling Donald Duck splash pad area as well as showers.

SSR has carraige rides, bicycle rentals and is close enough to DTD to walk although it does take approximately 15 minutes or less depending on what building you get.

We love the relaxed and laid back feeling of this resort even when it is booked to capacity. Hope you all enjoy staying there as much as my dh and I.

If you want to be close to the pool area and the counter service area request the Springs building. HTH's

I wouldn't worry about the bus transportation at SSR. All of the resorts have their good day and bad days as far as a buses go. The longest wait I've ever had was going to DTD from the Grand Floridian. Long waits just sometimes happen.

Let me ease your mind. My family just returned in March from SSR and we LOVED it. My kids (age 6 and 3) thought it was the grandest resort ever. It is beutiful and there is plenty to do for kids. Community hall provides around the clock activities for the kids. The pool is spectaclar with a "that was fun daddy!" waterslide. The Donald Duck wet play area was also a hit. My daughter is well traveled to be 6 years old and she was VERY impressed and can't wait to go back. I know where you are coming from though. Too many SSR haters out there! All my doubts melted away as soon as I drove in the gates. We are proud SSR owners and wouldn't trade for any other resort. Of course one main perk is the 14 extra years, which is what the "haters" are jealous of.

I don't think that it is a SSR problem. On my trip a couple weeks ago we experienced long waits at BC, AKL, and POLY. They can claim that busses come every 15 minutes, but my experience has been 20-30 minute waits are not uncommon at any resort. It all depends on the luck of your timing, but I would expect a longer wait and plan accordingly. If it shows up earlier you'll be pleasantly suprised.

I think the 1-1/2 hour must have been due to some other problem. I've never had a wait anything like that.

If someone was jealous of the 12 years couldn't they just sell their bwv/bcv/wvl points and buy ssr re-sale?

We didn't have a single problem with buses while we were at SSR in Feb. The only time we had any real wait is when we had just missed a bus to MK, and that could have happened anywhere. I don't suppose anyone can make guarantees on good bus service, because drivers take sick days like anyone else or sudden thunderstorms come up and buses might get diverted to get people out of the water parks (that happened to us once). But overall, I think the WDW bus system works great.

I think you also have to keep in mind that there are probably many more happy customers for every one customer who is annoyed enough to take the time to write a negative review.

Good luck!

i wouldn't worry. we stayed at POR for 3 years before purchasing SSR. we stayed SSR for the first time in Jan. we had ONE long bus wait, after we had JUST missed the previous bus (about 30min wait), but it only happened ONCE. we had that happen once or twice at POR. it actually bugged DH (that's me!) much more than my 6yr old DD, 4yr old DD, or 6 month old DD, or DW (oh DEAR!) :) lol

everthing we loved about POR made us fall in love with SSR. we love the wide open and quiet "chataqua" feel. (sp?)

we are off in august to stay at BWV for the first time.

have a GREAT trip! i always try to remember that the "magic" of Disney isn't that they get everything right everytime, they just get it right more than anyone else, and if its not "right" in your eyes, they will bend over backwards to try and make it "feel" right if you ask for it.

The nice thing about SSR if you don't have a car is that you can walk over to DTD (maybe 5-10 minutes) and catch a bus to any resort from there for your dinner plans. At the other resorts you need to catch a cab or take a bus to DTD and transfer which take up to an hour or more

Buses at any resort are hit and miss. I stayed at the GF and waited for 50 mins for a bus once. I have been to many resorts from Value to Deluxe and had good and bad luck. I have never had a problem at SSR and I have been there 3 times. That doesn't mean that there might not be a problem or two next time. I haven't noticed any pattern there.

.

Don't worry like others have said the complaints get more attention than the good things. :cheer2:

kelly are you serious? I can't believe you think the "nice" thing about ssr is you have to take a bus to get to the other resorts to eat.

I don't take a bus, and who would???? More dining options at SSR than any other. Now equipted with 2 restraunts and walking distance (5 minute walk from Congress Park area) to Down town Disney. If you like to eat and drink, you will love SSR!!!

If you stay at BWV/BCV/VWL/OKW and have ADR at Boma's at AKL how exactly do you get there?

A - Walk
B - Cab
C - Get to a Park then take a bus

So if you are at SSR you can walk to DTD and get on a bus directly taking you to the resort. So in fact SSR has a nice perk in being close to DTD.

Some people think in order to make their home resort seem better they need to take potshots at others. It really is pathetic. I happen to LOVE SSR and have had no issues with their buses. Enjoy your trip.

THANK YOU ALL,so very very much for your positive thoughts. You guys are right i think everyone will have a different opinion on resorts. We loved POFQ and i have seen some that just hated it so i guess it is just a matter of opinion.I was just so nervous about the wait times with 3 kids by myself.LOL.
Im sure it will be great, the pool looks gorgeous and the balcony looks to be very relaxing and peaceful.I love to sit on my patio at nite and just spend times with my kids outside at nite and play a game of monopoly or cards!!
That is why we choose SSR as well it looks so relaxing and peaceful and elegant.Im sure we will experience 1 or 2 bad bus days but hey we are on vacation at Disney.I do appreciate you guys being so positive about SSR its good to see all the great it has to offer as well as the bad!!!
Thanks again and you are all appreciated very much!!!!
My kids thank you all as well :thumbsup2

We didn't experience any problems with the buses on our March trip. However, we only went to the parks two days out of our week long trip. Both days we came back to the resort for a midday break and it was very easy to do. The bus for SSR just goes to SSR. It does make stops thruout the resort (4 stops) - very quick stops. I would highly suggest that you request the Springs location with a water view. It should put your close to the main pool & community hall, etc. plus you'll have a nice relaxing view on the balcony. FYI - Springs is the last stop at SSR before the bus heads out to the parks. Your kids will LOVE the pool!

dpayne you will have a wonderful trip, the kids will have a blast.

Kelly I wouldn't choose to eat there unless I was in AK that day, and then I would just walk in and eat. If I were staying at the beach club or the boardwalk I would simply walk to one of the 7-10 places around the lake, or I would go to epcot which is a 10 min walk and choose from one of 15 places.

Logic is my guide.

Doc Disney:You have misdirected your comments. The Boma comment was from Slakk not me. Have a great day! :)
