I've been reading prediction info on Ivan, and now I am worried about our upcoming trip next week. My DH thinks we just need to lay low and watch what happens, but I am worried because if it DOES turn into a hurricane it will hitting about the middle of our vacation. Any thoughts from anyone else scheduled to go during this time? Our dates are 9/9 thru 9/16.

As a side note, I just got off the phone with DH and told him I don't know how the poor people of Florida will handle it if there are 3 in a row. I mean, what are the odds of this happening? What a hurricane season!! Anyway, I just want all of the FL residents and visitors right now to know my prayers are with you and we are praying for the best for you all with as little damage as possible.

but if you think about it - you'd never go during hurricane season if you attempted to avoid any chance of a hurricane during your trip. How do we even know Ivan will hit Florida? Or hit anywhere. It could fizzle out or do what a lot of hurricanes do...hit my state, NC.

Prayer and Pixie dust to Floridians and all travelers who are down there. I'm a bit relieved to hear Frances is now a Cat. 3. Perhaps that's some saving grace.

We're going the same time. If you go to www.noaa.gov they're predicting Ivan 5 days out. It looks futher south than Frances. But, with hurricanes...one never knows.

We'll be there from 9/12 - 9/23.

Have fun!

I will be there from 9/12 to 9/19. Ivan is too early to worry about. My prayers are with all those in Florida.

I am just heartbroken for everyone being affected by these awful storms.

We will be down 9/08 for the pin event. I pray we don't run into anything other than rain.:sunny:

I was looking at it too. It is further south than Francis, but so was Charley & that came in at me then went inland on a NE course right through Orlando & out Daytona

We will be there from 9-10 until 9-13-04. Let's just keep hoping some of this pixie dust that is flying around WDW will keep Ivan and Frances away!!!!!!

My DH has always kidded that WDW needs to be built under a giant plexi glass DOME. (his theory has flaws but it's a great dream)

Ivan has not even been mentioned yet. Frances should be here soon! We are going next weekend (9-12). Ivan is too far away

We have changed our flights from this weekend to next weekend. Just found out about Ivan this morning. YIKES!

I feel sooo sorry for all of the people in FLorida!

Not sure what will happen next weekend.

Just wait and see!

Good luck to all.

Stay safe!

Wow - wonder where I've been? I was thinking I'd planned great - hoping Frances would be done and over by the time we get there on the 17th. I hadn't heard of IVAN. . . just in time for me to experience that too! Yikes!

That's just what I was thinking myself when I saw another post this morning about having to think about Ivan now. Then I did some research and realized it could be a problem for our trip. Now I'm kind of freaking out about it because there's no real way to know what's gonna happen probably until we are already there. Hopefully it never develops into anything serious. That would be wonderful!!

Hey guys we were there for Charley and we made it home safe - Please don't get crazy worrying about Ivan - I'm going to worn you about the local media down there - They made it seem as though Charley was going to blow Orlando right off the map - It was very scarey for my family - We stayed calm took the resorts instructions seriously and we were fine - Friends of ours were at different resorts and didn't have any hurricane tips - My one friend said if she didn't watch the weather and news they would have never known a hurricane was coming - Most of the resorts had minor damage (if any) - I'm sure Ivan will not be a problem - I hope not, especially for the people who live there - So many homes were totally destroyed - To ease your mind many of the resort staff brought their families to stay in rooms for their safety -As for the rain Disney is fun in rain or shine!! Keep positive and try not to worry - I wish all of you leaving soon for a Disney trip a safe and HAPPY one!

I appreciate the information that the Orlando and Tampa stations have been giving with the 2 hurricanes.

I lived in PA until I moved here in Dec. I can't tell you the number of times they got the weather wrong in PA.

The first hurricane one of the local stations here predicted the path of the hurricane before NOAA did.

I feel very prepared for this hurricane because of the great job the local media did.

Tyco,
Thanks for the calming words. They help a lot. It's really hard to understand what it's like there when we're so far away. All we have to go on is what the media tells us. Sounds like Disney does a great job, and that's reassuring. I am hoping things will go as smoothly at WDW for Frances as they did for Charley, and hopefully Ivan will stay away all together.

Thanks for posting the link. We are scheduled to fly out the morning of Sat. Sept 11th from Boston to MCO. We will be keeping an eye on Ivan.

You had better check with your airline, there's another thread that says something about the airport being closed over the weekend.

The airport is closed over this weekend not next weekend. At least not yet anyway.:(

Hurricanes can turn on a DIME.

I actually still believe that Frances could turn. It's a very unstable storm at this point, and it's almost 200 miles off the Florida coast. Floyd got closer than that, and turned north northeast.

Don't worry about Ivan until there's something to worry about. It's over 1700 miles from the Caribbean. It's not time to worry about Ivan yet.

Remember not all hurricanes hit FL. The Carolinas seem to get hit more than we do. http://html.local10.com/sh/idi/weather/hurricanes/hurricanetracker.html
