We leave Fri fro MKE to MCO on Fri and temps here will be way below zero
Worried if the flight could be cancelled or will it be ok
We’ve never flown when it’s been this miserable
Thanks

Which airport are you concerned about? The challenges could be if there is de-icing equipment potentially at colder airports for departing flights but I would guess most/all major airports have driving equipment.

Planes fly every day from colder locations.

We leave out of Milwaukee

I’m sure planes fly from colder places then here but when your the one that has to fly through it I get a bit nervous

Planes actually fly better in the cold.

You might have a slight delay (<30 minutes) if they take time to deice the plane. All that will happen is you'll push back from the gate, might taxi to another area of the airport, and trucks will spray deicing liquid all over the plane.

I was just watching our local forecast (PHL) and it was noted that flights could be affected starting on Friday. However I believe she was chiefly referring to ice storms occurring farther south. Delays are always possible of course. But I’m thinking you should be okay. Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks for the replies. I do feel a bit better. Just looking forward to getting up in the air😀

I live in a very cold climate and we have always flown the planes from here to MCO without problems. I think you will b just fine:)

I will say, not to scare you, but returning home from a cruise once in January, we landed fine but sat on tarmac for two hours while they de-iced another plane. That was torture!

So maybe delays, but doubt cancellation.

I just noticed that some of the airlines are offering waivers for some travel areas, namely American, Delta, SWA, and United. Not what you want to hear, I know, but helpful if things do become dicey. Stay safe and best of luck.

thanks for the heads up--I keep checking SW and dont see anything yet for fri-
we had this happen once before our flight was cancelled honestly I cant remember why
so we got to change to the next flight out and I cant reember what happened there but
we eventually got on the last NS of the day
nerver wrecking day but it did work out althought this got into our room really late
Ill keep checking

I just found a site for SW for travel alerts and so far for Fri through Mon there’s no disruptions for either MKE or. MCO
Fingers crossed
43 hrs till take off

Any major weather event can impact flight schedules. Connecting flights may be late or have trouble departing wherever they are coming from. Ice can require de-icing prior to takeoff as mentioned above and flight arrival/departures may be spread out further due to bad weather conditions. Cold weather alone isn't the issue, it is the snow/ice/freezing rain that is more likely to impact flight schedules.

I would check the airline website for the latest information on weather and any changes to schedules. When weather causes significant delays, they usually waive fees for changing your flights.

That doesnt make sense. I've never seen a plane deiced after landing before getting to the gate.

I said "we landed fine but sat on tarmac for two hours while they de-iced another plane."

We had to wait for a gate.
Still doesn't really make sense as you don't de-ice at the gate (or anywhere near the gates). Also doesn't take anywhere near two hours to de-ice.

I totally believe that you were told that, but it doesn't make sense that that was the actual reason.

But why would YOUR plane need deiced? Unless wherever they do the deicing blocked that path to your gate. And for it to be a two hour delay, must have been multiple planes.

I don't know what to tell you.

United, O'Hare. Landed around 10 and deplaned around midnight. Deicing another plane at gate we a were supposed to use, no other gates is what we were told. Back in the 90s.
