Worried about Boma

We have scheduled Boma for breakfast and dinner in October and I am not to worried about breakfast, but I'm not real sure about dinner. I know my husband loves to try different types of foods, but I'm a little nervous. We also have a nine year old daughter that might be picky too. Anyway, are there enough of normal foods on the buffet, just in case we don't like the others????

I was the same way
Breakfast was VERY good

but I am not daring enough to do dinner there
Lots of UNIQUE items

I was disappointed in Bomas. It was a clean, well staff, friendly enough place but I just did not care for that type of food. I guess I am just a meat and potatos kind of a guy. We will not be going back...smjj

I think there's enough variety for most tastes. For kids there are the usual chicken tenders and mac n cheese (um, I eat those too, big kid that I am! LOL) There is always some kind of pasta dish. We love the meats they have -- although they sound exotic, often you're just talking about different spices or marinades. It's not like they're serving ostrich or anything! Usually there is some kind of roast beef or prime rib, always chicken. Try it once -- the great thing with a buffet is you can try a dish, hate it, and find something else to eat that you'll love.

To all that have gone to both the dinner and breakfast buffet at Boma, which you you feel is a better choice for the varity of different foods? Also which would youick Boma or Kona cafe ? How about Chefs de France over Kona? need to make adrs tomorrow. Help!

Boma's was our favorite. We went there 2 nights in a row for dinner. We are going again for dinner in Sept and for bfast also.

Boma is unique and offers some excellent choices and their soups are to die for!! I would definately recommend it. If you try it and do not like it than dont go back but you will have to try for yourself becuase you will get a lot of different opinions. And that's just what they are...opinions

Their desserts are amazing too. Get a lot of Zebra Domes :)

We just ate at Boma's for dinner last week....WOW was it good!!! It's definitely my new favorite and my new "must do" restaurant at WDW. Nothing is especially "out there." When we went, there was a durban roasted chicken (tasted like regular roasted chicken), Malabu spiced steak (not spicy, just steak in this type of marinade), and coconut curry salmon (not too much of either seasoning so it was just right...and if you don't like either seasoning but like salmon, simply don't eat the very top crust). The soups were excellent...butternut squash (very good...my dh said it reminds him of Christmas), chicken corn chowder (has bell peppers in it which gives a nice touch of flavor), chicken pepper pot (not spicy at all...kind of a sweet and tangy taste). The potatoes with afritute were good but that was the only thing I found to be kind of spicy (but not too bad....think seasoned fries). The watermelon rind salad was the ONLY thing I didn't like. The desserts were AWESOME! The zebra dome were fantastic, I loved the pineapple cheesecake and fruit tarts and the chocolate mousse crunch was really good too. They also had fresh fruit (grapes, honeydew, canteloupe, pineapple, and watermelon). For the less adventurous eaters, there was pasta and chicken tenders. There were several people over there (adults and children) so you wouldn't feel out of place for going to that pod. I highly recommend it.

I am a picky eater. So it my son and brother-in-law. We all loved Boma and rolled out of there. Yes, there is enough "normal" food to please anyone. I liked the chicken and even the steak wasn't that bad for me. My son loved all the different salads. Adults can easily get the kids buffet stuff and vice versa. The dishes sound strange but are very good. When I first went there, I thought I'd never be able to enjoy the salad dressings. My server advised to combine a couple. I did and it was excellent. My son did the same thing and I thought he was going to turn into a rabbit. I've also seen my vegetarian friend sitting next to my carnavore husband and they basically stuffed themselves.

One hint - take dessert with every trip up to the buffet line or else you won't have room for anything at the end.

Boma's is my favorite buffet. The food preparation and choices are much better than Cape May or Chef Mickey's. Most of the food is pretty standard with just different names. You can easily find enough "Western" food to make a fine meal.
I was glad we went. Chef Mickey's is a fun experience with kids but it isn't a place I would go to enjoy a meal.

My DH didn't think he would like it (for dinner) but he loved it and it's now his favorite. I loved it too. My two 7 yr olds found plenty to eat, too. :goodvibes

We were not thrilled with Boma's and we are adventurous eaters. Your 9 year old will find something to eat.

We were very big fans of Boma for breakfast and dinner. We ate dinner there just last week and it was just OK. The soups were great, but other than that, it seemed to us the the quality was slipping. We were disappointed because we usually love it there. Maybe they were having an off night.

Boma is the one restaurant that will make us venture a trip to Disney during the summer crowds and that says a lot!! We love it!

We have eaten dinner at Boma our last 3 trips and will be going again. While we are not meat & potatoes, our 3 kids are picky and have very different tastes. They can all find things they like at Boma. Plus you can take in the savanah behind the pool if you have a wait (the buzzers reach there).

IMHO the desserts at Boma's alone are worth a trip for dinner. My DH and I enjoyed Boma's for the first time in December and we are looking forward to going again in September. You will find plenty of American style food to satisfy, including mac n cheese, ribs and chicken fingers. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
:wave2:

ShellyLynn - I honestly had to look to see who posted this thread, because I think I posted something with the same title a month ago!

That being said, we stuck with Boma's and while it wasn't our favorite meal (that was O'Hana's dinner), we still enjoyed our dinner -- and we are not adventurous at all!

The meats are good and not flavored with anything so exotic that you can't eat them (although I think the chicken was too dry).

The good thing about this being a buffet is that you can try things. I tried the carrot ginger soup, didn't like it, but went back multiple times for the seafood chowder soup (so, so good). I also discovered that I like falafel! The potatoes with Afritude were good, too (and also provided us with a new adjective for the rest of the trip - "Hey, that's got Afritude!" or "Hey, calm your Afritude!").

The desserts, I think, are slightly overrated, but still very good. The zebra domes weren't our favorites at all. Instead we liked the regular chocolate mousse things they offered.

All that I can say is that if you go, start by getting a little bit of each thing on your plate and going back for seconds for the stuff you like.

We were hesitant to try dinner at BOMA, but I talked my DH into it last year after reading so many great DIS posts. We had a great meal and DH has already asked to go again this year. I could eat just the soups and desserts and leave happy. DH loved the meats. Give it a try. More people like it over those that don't. :flower:

On our last trip, Feb. 05, we made PS for breakfast at Boma. I really wanted to try it for a few reasons. I eventually want to eat at all of the resort restaurants. Also, I wanted to check out AKL.

Well I was kinda worried about Boma too. I was afraid their food would be too spicy, and for me that is NOT a good thing. When foods get too exotic in spice, LindsayDunn228 has to find the nearest bathroom before something bad happens :faint::eek::crazy2:

I was pleasantly suprised. Everything I tried was delicious. Even their sausage links (which were the biggest sausages I had ever seen) weren't too spicy. There was literally everything to choose from. And if I hadn't wanted to try anything new, there were plenty of "safe" things I could have: cereal, eggs, freah fruit, etc.

I saw give it a chance. If you don't like it, at least you can say you tried it :)

ETA: Get the frunch!!!!!! It is awesome!!!!!:earsboy::earsgirl:

Count our family in as Boma lovers! :cool1:
My ds (7) ate his weight in strawberries and chocolate chip cookies. He also had some chicken and the waiter brought some parmesan to our table for the noodles. My dd (9) tried little tastes of lots of different things. I honestly think Boma opened her eyes to a lot of new flavors and she is more open to trying new things ever since we ate there. :) I love the salads and the meat is really, really good.
