I have Windows ME. I don't see a patch for my system. However I run Tiny Personal Firewall all the time.

Is my computer apt to have gotten this worm?? If so where do I get a patch??

Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003

During the past 12 hours, Symantec has detected from 420 to nearly 4,000 infections per hour, with an average of about 2,500 new computer compromised hourly. The worm, which security experts believe started spreading early Monday, scans for vulnerable computers so widely that an unpatched Windows XP computer on the Internet could be infected in just 25 minutes, according to Symantec studies.

Yeah! Thank goodness I have Windows 98. Glad I didn't update now. :bounce:

I got this stinkin worm on monday. It is HORRIBLE! It took me forever to get it fixed.

But,i am now worm free!

Just curious though, I have zone alarm's free firewall running. What does everyone else use and is a free one sufficient?

I always am constantly updating my Windows XP, so I didn't get it thankfully, but my Daughters computer did get infected from it! Right now, I had to download the XP patch on a disk and then download the Worm Blaster Fix on a separate CD from my computer and then install them on hers...What a process that was! Of course, I couldn't use her computer to download them because you can't stay online long enough to get them downloaded, so this was the only way to do it! I have them both installed and it said the worm was successfully terminated....Now I am running Nortons Anti virus updates on it...

Be thankful if you didn't get this worm, it is a PITA!

I believe it is time for a Baileys! ;)

Where did you find a patch?

My DD went on the internet for the first time all summer...and got the darn thing in two minutes flat!

Of course...you get knocked off as soon as you log on...so downloading is out of the question on here computer.

I have 98...and will be searching for a firewall.

I swear...I think it is time to start filing Class Action suits against these idiots!

Thanks in advance.

Patti

the link to the patch is above but it is not for W98 I do not think there is one as of yet.

"Close port 135/tcp (and if possible 135-139, 445 and 593)
Monitor TCP Port 4444 and UDP Port 69 (tftp) which are also used by the worm
Ensure that all available patches have been applied, especially a fix for the flaw at the centre of the spread of MSBlaster
Pull infected machines from a network pending a complete rebuild of the system " found this on another site not sure if it will help

Mal

Patti, I have them both on a disk in case you can't get through to Microsofts site. I would be more than happy to send them to you except it is for Windows XP...Can you use that?

Let us know how you are doing
