World's Longest Yard Sale (127 corridor) - Anyone go? Where to stay (Kentucky/Tenn?)

I been seriously considering going to the "World's Longest Yard Sale", aka the 127 Corridor sale. It takes place the first week of August, all along highway 127 in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and I think Alabama, too. This is something I wanted to do for a few years now, and I keep thinking I just better go and get it out of my system!!! I also have family in the area to see (in NC), so the trip would be worth it to me.

I am the type who would set up in one hotel for maybe 3-4 nights, and just head north or south from there over the sale. I have no intentions of doing the whole route. I can only yard sale so much in one day, as I know my limits - I need my chill out time to relax in a hotel!

I been trying to find a decent centralized location, and most of my research brings me to the Crossville Tennessee area. But the hotels there are SKY HIGH - pushing $200 a night, which is not worth the convienance for a basic hotel. Been also looking at the Harriman exit off Route 40, but I know nothing of the area. I was hoping more in the $100ish range, in a safe area. Also was considering Kentucky, too.

So has anyone gone to the sale - where did you stay??? Anyone familiar with the central Tenneesee/Kentucky area hotels? I was even considering Knoxville but I don't know what places are good and not in congested areas, and it's a long drive to 127. Yeah, I am pretty clueless still - any help is appreciated! Sorry I don't have any info about the sale. But, I would suggest looking at B&B's. You would probably get a better deal. And have you tried priceline for hotels?

My sister manages the Super 8 in Kingston, TN. I don't know the rates, but I'm almost positive it's never over $100. It was a Comfort Inn and just switched over to Super 8 last summer. It's not anything fancy but it's clean and definetely in a safe area. We stay there sometimes when it storms and the power at our house goes out. It takes a little while to get to the yard sale, less than an hour though. I'd look into it!

If you go all the way to Kingston, you may as well go the few more miles to west Knoxville. There are tons of hotel choices as long as it isn't a UT football weekend. It's about an hour from Crossville.

There are some nice parks with camping, but they probably get filled up early with sellers.

We went once by accident on Sunday the last day. Traffic is horrendous. It's so bad that they close the local schools in Crossville for it. It was sort of fun, but that was at least a decade ago and we've never gone back. Just too much stuff. I don't know how you find the gems.

I live about 15 miles east of 127 in KY and take the route often.

Hotel ideas:
Frankfort-Direct on route: Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Days Inn, Super 8. Capitol Plaza is downtown, Best Western and Fairfield are 5 miles east on 64. There is a Best Western in Lawrenceburg.

Danville-Harrodsburg-Holiday Inn Express-Hampton-Comfort Inn-Days Inn. I believe there are 2 Country Hearth Inns and a Super 8 there too.

There are non chain hotels around Russell Springs-look at some Lake Cumberland websites for those-the Jamestown Lodge and State Park lodges are not far off the route.

15-20 miles east of 127 in southern KY is Somerset-You'll find a Quality Inn, Country Inn and Suites, Days Inn, Red Roof Inn, Knights Inn, Best Western, Comfort, Holiday, and Hampton Inns, along with another new one under construction. This is a very quick and easy drive out the parkway.

Beyond that, you won't find too much outside of mom and pop locations in KY. Most Lexington hotels are within 30 minutes of 127 if you want to stray that far off to save money. My city of Georgetown has plenty of rooms under $100 a night during the time frame but is also 20-30 minutes off route.

We did the sale a few years ago, after about 20 miles, everything for sale started to look the same. We were on route for 6 hours and hopscotched from Frankfort to Danville, maybe 40 miles. Traffic is heavy, but not impossible as the northern stretch is 4 lanes. If you are into sales and flea markets, you will be impressed.

Just wanted to reply further, I would not stick with the same hotel room for 3-4 nights if making this trip. I would pick a night-go north the first day, south the second day. The route itself is roughly 400 miles long, so doing everything will be impossible.

I have also heard that TN is the hub of the activity and much worse than the KY portion we have visited.

I've been several times, but I've never needed a hotel room. The yard sale begins, or ends, depending on your view, in my hometown in Alabama. Sometimes, I'll g visit my parents during that week and we'll do about 50 miles or so of the sale in a day. For the last few years, it's been so darn hot that I've skipped it. There are some great deals to be had, though.

KyDisneyfan - you describe exactly what I was thinking. I would pick a spot in the middle, and go north one day, and south the other. I am thinking of driving in on Wednesday, then hitting the sale Thursday and Friday, maybe Saturday. Or save Saturday for other sightseeing or meeting relatives. Then drive home on Sunday. Which is why I was thinking 3-4 nights in one spot. I know the heat/traffic gets to me quick, so it would be nice to be able to escape back to the hotel! At the sale, I am looking for mainly vintage toys, that's my thing.

I will check out all the towns and hotel suggestions. I really appreciate it! Thanks!
