Has anyone used the World Passport to book other non-Disney properties? If so, were you able to get the location and dates you wanted? How was the property? I am thinking about buying into DVC. I won't be able to go to WDW every year as I am on the West coast. I am interested in going to Mexico and Hawaii as well as Disney properties.

Well, we used points to book the Grand Waillea's Deluxe Ocean Front room. Converting the number of points used to what our points cost us, it was a little under 500 per night, they upgraded us to the concierge building and that room's rate was 1200.00, the cheapest rate was 750 plus tax... so we're trying again for next late June or early July actually, but '09 rates and dates are not out, so I'm not so happy at the moment, I'd like to book it ASAP

I think it's advantageous and most economical to use your points at DVC on a DVC room, however, if you like to travel you can make the economics work for you like we obviously did...

Buying DVC with the intent of using it to trade to non DVC options is a poor and expensive choice. You'd be far better off buying the number of DVC points you'd use and look at other options for those non DVC trips.

That does remind me, isn't DVC opening something in California? I know they're planning to open something at the Ko'Olina complex on Oahu in Hawaii... will probably be a decent usage of points...

Using within DVC is the way to go as both of these will be. However, both resorts are likely to require owning points at those resorts for most of the year.

Have only something like 50 2 BR units? Could that be right?

Seems small!:goodvibes
