I am so glad I am a DVC member - because my vacations are paid for and I don’t have to worry about saving for the trip. WOO HOO! :woohoo:
Sure we have travel and meals to conceder but the hotel/resort cost are done. It is a great day to be a DVC owner. :thumbsup2 :dance3:
Is there anyone considering not going to WDW because of the crisis on Wall Street?

I'm still going. But, at the same time, I don't really consider my trips paid for b/c I own DVC. We still have to pay airfare, meals and park tickets - that really adds up ...

We will be there in 10 days and have already booked 1/2 of our 2009 trip (rest can't be booked until January). We haven't considered not going to WDW! I consider us fortunate to say that. BTW I love your quote in your signature, really hits the nail on the head.

We've been going back and forth about going. One reason was $$ and the other was trying to get my in-laws a place because they will be in Orlando. We now have my in-laws settled so my DW is now thinking we should go. The bad thing is airline tickets have gone up $200 for the 5 of us. Which isn't all that bad I guess. To bad I can't get a ding fare today!

Well we have been very fortunate to go to Disney 3 times last year and again this year. BEING a DVC owner is wonderful and I love it but we also have to pay airfare, meals and tickets. So we will continue to go ....but it won't be 3 times in a year and more than likely just one big trip each summer.

We're so glad to know we're going to WDW every year and stay in a villa as opposed to a hotel room! Our DD is 3 and she'll grow up with tons of WDW memories! Being a DVC member I'm not stressed about saving tons for a vacation and deciding with vacation spot would be the most economical - it's always WDW! :woohoo:

We bought DVC with the idea of taking one big trip every year (~2 weeks) and with getting to Orlando by driving. We have no inclination on changing that plan.

Have a great trip!

we are going twice next year (April & November/December) LOL if I didn't have a wedding at THanksgiving we would squeeze a trip in then.

My DH just received a rather nice increase times like this I am extremely grateful my DH is in law enforcement.

We're already booked for May 2009 and are planning a big family trip in December 2009. Our plan is to do a lot of meals "at home" so I don't really figure in the cost of meals that much... I'd have to buy that same food if we were in Jersey and eating at home! We're saving our pennies for airfare and tickets... mostly by cutting out some extras that aren't really necessary (DH will have to brew his own coffe at home!). But we agree that we'd rather spend the money on Disney!

We just booked an August trip for 09 and we're considering a second either in May or Oct. (I'm shooting for Oct!!) I'm glad we have DVC because if we didn't we probably wouldn't be going anywhere. We're also bringing our friends and their son in August and they wouldn't have been able to afford to go to WDW otherwise so I'm very excited that they are finally getting to go! :wizard: Like everyone else, we've backed off some non-essentials (make your own meals at home, make coffee at home, ect) and just those few cuts have really helped our Disney budget!!

I read a very interesting article (I'll try to link it, if I can) yesterday on msnbc. It was how Americans in tough economic times turn to entertainment venues in droves (movies, sports arenas, theme parks etc). Evidently after too much bad news especially in areas where we have no control over (stock market) we need the escape.

I always think Disney will do ok, even with the non dvc owners.

We just got back from AKL (non DVC trip b.c we just became members while in WDW!!!) on a 9 day trip and are planning a January 09 (SSR) and September 09 AKV trip!!! Woo! I've never driven from OH so we'll probably be flying as I can't imagine my boys in a car for that long!

Even though to many this is financially irresponsible, we'll be continuing our WDW trips even though DH is unemployed and it doesn't look like he'll be finding a job in the near future (we're thinking it will be at least Feb or March before he goes back).

We won't have to pay for the hotel and we'll eat more in the rooms than normal, so our food costs won't be much more than what we would spend at home. Since we're empty-nesters, it isn't necessary for us to go into the parks at all. We'll just be enjoying the resort and it's amenities. The only other cost we'll have to worry about is transportation, and since we've drastically cut down on the number of times we eat out, we'll be able to handle that cost without too much trouble, well unless the unemployment lasts for several years.
