Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Yay, Eva! Awesome, lifestyle changes that will make you so healthy in the long-run!

Carrie -- how are you holding up, sweetie? I hope the IC monster has stayed away. (oh, that is a food reference and not an "inner commando" reference ;) )

I'm ok. Gonna' have an early dinner, which should keep me from being bad.

Going with the thought that gaining weight won't make me any happier.

wow. Really good thing to remember every time I want to eat because I am unhappy or stressed.
Enjoy your dinner! :thumbsup2

Just checking in...thanks for the shout-out, Minnie! I tend to get distracted by work, so it's good to be reminded that life is more than work, work, work, eat, eat, eat--and not necessarily in that order.

Big congrats to all of us making better daily decisions--steady weight loss, regular exercise, ignoring the sultry, siren call of ice cream! The good news is that I've lost a pound, even if it took me two weeks to do it. Slow and steady, right? Blueroses, thanks for the information on calorieking.

Yesterday was a good day for eating, but not for working out. It's one of my long days, so I didn't make it to the gym. I try to remind myself to move during the day, but too often that means I'm walking to the vending machine. I resisted yesterday, but mostly because I had appointments all day long.

Today's been pretty good for working out. I managed to complete another run/walk day on the treadmill as well as some cross-training. (For those who don't know, I'm trying to locate my inner runner.)

B--Oatmeal, banana, yogurt
L--Apple, veggie sandwich
S--1 oz. cheese
D--not sure yet. Dinner is usually unplanned. I often come back from work, tired and hungry, and I'll pull together whatever DH and I have a craving for. We generally have salad, and that's easy enough to keep healthy. I'll probably try not to stress about it and instead focus on portion size.

Btw, one of my big "food" goals is to increase my water intake as opposed to my soda intake. Suggestions?

Good afternoon WISHers!
I have to say in all good humor, going to the gym yesterday was SO not worth the effort it took with the buses running on snow routes! The only reason I went was because I had an appointment with my trainer and he made it in, so I would have been out the money if I'd cancelled. I did half an hour of weights and 45 minutes on the stairclimber.

Today was MUCH better. I did 1:15 of intervals on the treadmill with a high speed of 6.8 mph. Moreover, I felt great after - like I could have kept doing it for at least another half hour.

Tomorrow I'm going to crosstrain on the stairclimber again. No more running 2 days in a row until I'm confident of not re-injuring myself.

I'm down another pound. Actually the scale waivered between 141.5 and 142 before landing on 141.5, which is down 1.5 pounds. But when it waivers like that I round up. :)

Foodwise, I fell into a little poor planning. I ate my normal breakfast and packed a luna bar for after my workout. But I had a haircut after that and some errands to run before I got home, so I ended up finding myself walking in the door at 3:30 having only had 460 calories up to that point. Needless to say I was STARVING. Luckily I had stuff on hand to have a 420 calorie lunch and the crisis is averted. I had:
1/2 c. TVP
1/2 c. black beans
3/4 serving cheese
salsa
1/4 avocado
1 c. steamed beets

YAY, Blue Roses! Awesome save! And kudos to you for making it to the gym! :thumbsup2

I ate my LF popcorn at work and changed for the gym, but then decided my feet just couldn't do it. Just walking around my office all day without shoes was uncomfortable enough without the added pressure I felt on my toes when I put on my running shoes and laced them for running. Hoping to make it work in the next couple of days.

Dinner was whole wheat pasta w/diced tomatoes and soy parmesan. Delicious! I am still wanting something else, and will probably try to convince myself that a grapefruit is the snack of choice. I am permitted fruits, veggies, LF popcorn, WW smoothie, fat free milk, or WW fruities (chewy candy). None of that is really appealing to me, so I will do the grapefruit and head up to bed to read to avoid further temptation.

I hope everyone has a very successful remainder of the night! :grouphug:

Woo hoo BLueroses!

I made it. My dinner was small. I did splurge on a glass of Rosa Regale, but at least I didn't have the whole bottle, right? ;)

Good luck tomorrow everyone!

deekaypee, about water vs. soda. I've never been a big soda drinker, but I'll throw out some suggestions. Does the rest of your family drink it? If so, that's going to be a temptation having it in the house. You could buy a certain amount at the beginning of the week and not buy anymore until the next week even if you run out. I drink water, herbal tea, and coffee. The calories just aren't worth it to me. When I'm out I order a San Pellegrino, or Perrier, or club soda so I don't feel like I'm having "just water." You could also buy sparkling water and cut it with decreasing amounts of fruit juice. Don't increase your H2O all at once - you'll be running for the washrooms! (I know this from personal experience.) Or think of it this way: would you rather have a can of soda at lunch and dinner, or drink water at both meals and then have Ben and Jerry's for dessert?

Good Evening everyone! Yes.. it is 11:30 pm.. and it is the first time I can check in! I popped on earlier today from work.. but that is such a rare
occasion!

Great job ladies!! I caught up on everyone's progress!! You are all so inspiring!

CAM - I just LOVE turkey Chili!! Do you make your own? If so.. can you send me the recipe??

Carrie - Great job avoiding the Ice Cream!!!

And All you other Ladies! Keep on Keepin On!! :)

Things have been sooooo crazy in my life.. I have not had a moment to sit and just be since I got home from WDW...

However.. I must say that I have been VERY VERY VERY good with my food choices and water intake since seeing my pics from the marathon! UGH!!

So.. I started back on South Beach... it really is quite easy once you get the hang of it.. and it truly cleans your system out! I was getting into a habit of cookies/cake every night.. and with all the holiday cookies at work.. I had given myself permission to eat cookies and chocolate all day every day. Gee... wonder how I gained back 20lbs? Hmmmm :confused3 But the sad thing is that I was Never a sweets person before...

Well.. I realized that I couldn't do WW this time because I had to detox myself from all this sugar... Once I am.. then I can go to a modified WW plan.. well.. at least that is my idea right now....

I haven't gotten back to exercising at all since I have been home.. mostly because I have been running from work to the hospital.. and now to my neices house.. and I have to add to the mix Moving!! UGH! I looked at an apartment tonight.. and it was really nice.. but Man oh Man.. sticker shock! Prices are really out of control for what you get! Much smaller than my current apartment.. but.. newly renovated.. and 1 block off the beach!! Can we say sand jog? :) Private porch... and they will let me put in my washer/dryer unit.. AND they allow my kitty cats! Sooooo it seems to be a win/win situation.... but... it is a HUGE increase in rent for me. (Sorry for babbling.. but this is on my mind.. and if I don't type.. I may eat!!! popcorn:: ) So... I have some thinking to do... or some more looking.. but I don't want to lose this one if there is nothing better out there.. and I don't want to jump on this and not take the chance that there COULD be something better out there! UGH! Decisions, decisions!!

Okay.. my short term goal.. get my sneakers out of my suitcase and on my feet... and get myself on the pavement saturday morning.

I WILL keep my food on track...

I WILL NOT weigh myself until Monday!! I am a horrible scale hopper.. which can be a terrible thing. I want try and break that habit.

Okay.. I am done now! LOL!!

Nighty Night!!

Thanks for letting me ramble! The cats just don't get it! LOL!!

Kathy

Good morning everyone!

Deekaypee – I am the diet soda queen which no calories but the caffeine is of course not good for me. I allow myself one bottle of Diet Dew in the morning (I consider that my coffee) and then I drink flavored water (crystal light on the go packs) or decaf green tea the rest of the day. It seems to work for me. I do grab a diet soda in the afternoon if I need it though. Good luck!

Blueroses – Great job on making do for lunch! Wow 6.8 on the TM is fantastic!

Cam – Hope you made it the rest of the night successfully! Thank you by the way for the pep talk on my class. Only 6 more weeks till that one is in the books.

Carrie – Great job – one day at a time!

Kathy - Great to see you back! I’m on SBD also and though you have to set yourself up for success (having the right stuff in the fridge) it is a plan that works!

I had some wonderful veggie beef soup in the crock pot last night. It was a new recipe but I'm glad I gave it a go. Delicious and ready when we got home.

Today’s menu:

B – Baked oatmeal and yogurt
L – Darn left it at home. Will have to run out and grab something….
S – Yogurt and cheese stick
D – Turkey cutlets are in the crock pot. Need to decide what to do with them.
D – Cream cheese tart

Have a great day on the beach everyone!

Thanks for letting me ramble! The cats just don't get it! LOL!!
lol. I ramble here to keep my marriage happy. :p[/quote]
I was down another half pound this morning and I forgot to weigh before I had 8 to 10 ounces of OJ. I knew I shoudl have been in high water time, but I just can't believe I'm still going down!!!!!

OK, I have a lunch outing today. It's fo a b-day, so we usually get dessert. The b-day girls is watching her weight, though and one of the others is not big on dessert, so hopefully, we can get by without it. If not, they usually have strawberries and cream or something. not great, but better than bread pudding with ice cream.

FUnny, when I'm losing, it's soooo much easier to stay on track and so motivating. When I'm not, you'd think I'd have more motivation to lose, but I have more motivation to eat. :confused3

Cathy -- the apartment sounds ideal! I hope the decision is made quickly and painlessly. :)

Carrie -- good job last night! I hope lunch goes well for you! I just LOVE getting a fruit plate for dessert. I know that is weird, but it seems to fill the need to order something and to eat something sweet, but without all the remorse. I have also heard that sorbet can be the smartest dessert choice. Sending pixiedust:

Minnie -- beef veggie crock pot soup sounds great. I LOVE adding barley. Hmmm. .. I might have to cook that.

Okay, here is my ad libbed hearty turkey chili recipe:
I always start with about 2 pounds of very lean ground turkey
brown the ground turkey and rinse
put 2 tsp olive oil in pan and saute 2 large chunked onions
add 1 bag of shredded carrots
pour turkey back in
add 2 large cans diced tomatoes
2 small cans diced tomatoes with jalepenos or mild green chilis
2 cups fat free chicken broth
1 large can kidney beans
2 cans of whole kernel corn

Spices to taste: ground cumin, red pepper flakes, paprika & chili powder

It comes out very hearty and chunky. Delicious!

Eva- I think it is a wonderful idea to start with small changes that are healthier. Sometimes it is REALLY hard to make all of these changes at once, and then you end up falling off the wagon.

Cam - I am so sorry that your feet are still bothering you so badly.

Here is what I ate yesterday. We went out to dinner at Olive Garden, so I asked the server to bring me a to-go box as soon as he brought out dinner, and I put half of the dinner in a to-go box for lunch today and ate the rest. That way I can clean my plate, and still not eat a ton of food. I also had dessert, but it was a no sugar added chocolate torte, with strawberries and cream. What can I say?! I'm a wimp when it comes to dessert!!

Total for the day!! 1433.

I have lost ALOT of water weight over the past week. I weighed in at 161, and I am now at 151.5. This morning I got up and did my excersize DVD, and then got DH and he and I went for a 20min run. He is doing the Couch to 5k program, and this is his first week. I am so proud of him!! He runs ALOT faster than me though, so I have given up most of my runs to run and train with him at a faster pace. Anyway, I'm done rambling for now.

Take Care,
Dana

OK, lunch was not great, but not awful. It seems we're all trying to watch what we eat, so we all had half of a small order of fries and half of a a milk shake. The shake was pretty small too. It gaves us a taste of celebrating, but we coul dnot go wild as when it was gone it was gone. I'll run tonight and have a small dinner. I ddi not have my afternoon snack today either.

Total drive-by... :moped:

Is it bad if you eat the fat free cool whip? Like the whole container while on the boards...? :rolleyes1

I'll be better tomorrow, promise!

Can I join you guys? I need all the help and encouragement I can get!

Height/Weight: 5', 207 lbs (I can't believe I wrote that!)
Long Term Goal: To lose 60 pounds, build up my fitness level, get healthy
Training for: To do the Minnie 5K in May (only 2nd 5K ever-1st was 3 years ago).
Plan- watching my portions, trying to make better options, avoiding the donuts that my boss brings in every Friday. Not any set "plan."
Struggles: drinking water, weekends, just getting started.

I have been building up my time on the stationary bike (up to 4 miles now, just started really doing the bike this week)....want to lose a little bit before I start outside walking, but am worried that I won't be ready for the 5k (and scared I'll quit).

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

That one got me!! LOL!! :)

Okay.. i am feeling much more positive tonight!

Update on apartment issue for those following along... I decided to go and look at a few more places in the area to compare.... not jump at the first one... And I had a lightbulb moment that life is too short to not do what makes ME happy... I need to move on.. and not worry about what my landlord is going to do about getting another tenant.... not my problem... I will give them the proper notice and then I am gone....

Okay.. Now.. as for food.. I am sooooooo proud of me today!! I went out to dinner at one of the most famous italian restaurant's in Brooklyn.. and I ate PERFECTLY!!! I was not tempted once!! Everyone around me was having Wine, antipasto, bread, pasta, potatoes, cheese, Dessert.. and I stuck to my Salad, Grilled chicken with a few artichokes NO sauce.. No dessert... Seltzer for my beverage.. and tea for dessert.. I did GREAT... and I really wasn't too tempted... and I didn't feel deprived. YAY me!!!!

Thanks Cam for that recipe... I will have to alter it up a little to fit the SBD... and I can have it now... otherwise I will have to wait till Phase 2.

Happy almost Friday everyone! Oh.. and I still haven't weighed myself!!! YAY!!

Kathy

Restaurants are so tough! The food is so yummy and they give you so much of it. I met a friend for lunch today after my workout - Mexican. And it was my idea too, don't know what I was thinking except that we were meeting in a part of town I hadn't been to in a while, and it was the first place that popped into my mind. I had the butternut squash enchilada (lots of cheese on top) with rice and beans. I ate half the rice and beans and 1/3 of the enchilada and boxed the rest up for my husband at work since I knew he was working late tonight.
I made the mistake last night of curling up with some ice cream/sorbet (it's a swirl of both in one container) thinking I would just have *some.* HA! Needless to say, it's gone now. Oh well, it could have been worse - it could have been straight ice cream at twice the calories. I guess I know better than to put that in my freezer again until I'm prepared to share it or put it in a bowl. But, darnit, the stuff tastes better straight from the container! :)

From one Monica to another, I say welcome :hippie: and we're all in the same boat. I had to quit my part-time job at Starbucks in order to stop eating all the sweets and coffee drinks. You should think about joining us for the WDW marathon next Jan., it's going to be a blast!

Carrie – Great job on lunch! Sounds like satisfaction without remorse to me! :goodvibes:

Hi, Monica! Welcome aboard. It sounds like you’ve already made a great start to getting into an exercise routine and I bet you’ll be surprised and thrilled at how quickly you build up the endurance you’ll need to complete the 5K. By the time you get to the Minnie weekend in 15 weeks (and especially if you hang out on the WISH boards), you’ll be feeling very confident. But, I know what you mean about struggling with foods others so generously provide. I have really gotten into the habit of filling my water mug and then just staying away from the kitchen. For example, one of my favorite secretaries just told me she brought in goodies for the office. I am not going anywhere near the kitchen. Why tempt myself, right?

Kristi – At least it was fat free cool whip. Okay, that’s past. Today is a new day.

Kathy – so glad you had a lightbulb moment. I learned a long time ago that we have to be our own advocates. You are the person who will have to live with your decision, so I am really glad you are going to make the decision that is right for you (and your fur-babies!). Awesome, awesome job at the restaurant! You should definitely be so proud of yourself!

Blueroses – So glad that temptation is behind you! Good luck today!

Good morning, Monica! I am sooo happy for you that you don’t work at Starbucks anymore (did I miss that earlier? I’m sorry). Kudos to you. I don’t know how you stood being around all those goodies every day!

I did well yesterday, especially considering the outrageous PMS cravings/appetite I've been experiencing. I ate a lot of food last night but it was all core. When I got home, I ate green beans & corn to hold me over until after the gym. Then got delayed going to the gym and really needed real food, so I made 2 eggs and 2 small ham steaks. I learned the hard way that it is better NOT to run on a full tummy, though. When I got home, I shared lite popcorn with DS and right before bed, in response to a growling tummy, I ate a banana. So, it was more food than I should have eaten, but my body was sending "FEED ME" messages that it was better not to ignore.

Today's challenge is a business luncheon and I am at a table with people that I don't want to discuss food choices with. UGH! I'll do the best with whatever they serve and I'll have to count the points, but I am hoping to get through it with little damage to my best intentions! :)

Have a great day, WISH buddies! :grouphug:
