Working at Disney/Where to live

I hope to be working at Disney soon and was looking for advice on the best/nicest/safest places to live around the Disney area. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

What about that new Disney neighborhood? I forgot the name of it, but one day when my DH and I were dreaming, he found this neighborhood managed by Disney that had nice condos for cheap.

We live in Ocoee/Windermere. It's about 10 miles north of Disney property. I would recommend Ocoee, Windermere, Winter Garden and Gotha. Good luck finding the perfect place for you!

Celebration is expensive on a Disney salary unless you're upper management; Windemere's local gov't and police are going to hell in a hand basket, Poinciana and Kissimmee show up in crime news stories too often for my comfort (and I live in Kissimmee although this end of Osceola Co. is pretty quiet). If I had it to do over, I'd look in Winter Garden, Davenport or Clermont, although Lake Co. (Clermont) property taxes are high. Good luck in your search.

Windermere is having some local government issues. I live in the unincorporated part of Windermere. In other words, I am considered Windermere by the post office, but not within Windermere township limits. I am covered by Orange County for services, so the state of Windermere's local government is of no concern. I really think they will have all their issues sorted out within the next couple of months. The new police chief is cleaning house. As soon as the town manager is gone, the town can get back to an above board government.

In reality, there is very little crime in Windermere.

A lesson learned to not believe everything we see on TV or read in the paper! I should have realized that not all of Windermere is included in the Windermere zip code, as so many neighborhoods in Central Florida are set up like that, including my own; I live 18 miles west of Kissimmee city, but that's my zip code. They don't, however, provide any services to our area - Osceola Co. provides our police (sheriff) and fire protection, code enforcement, animal control, DMV, etc. It's very confusing to newcomers, as this area, Four Corners, is literally a junction of Orange, Osceola, Lake and Polk counties within a one-mile radius.

I meant no disrespect to Windermere or its residents, incorporated or not. Forgiven?

No offense taken! I'd find the whole Windermere matter amusing if a child wasn't involved in the original coverup. I just wanted to point out that living in Windermere is great. No need to worry about this little pocket of corruption.
