Working around Photostory install errors?

We are just about pulling our hair out trying to get around the install problems with Photostory 3. Anyone else have any luck? First it was the General error 28000 (I think), then one error after another. Any ideas/hints/suggestions? I'm about ready to give up. What other software would you suggest? I would like to ultimately burn my slideshows to DVD to play on any TV.
