Work Around for Resale Online Borrowing Issue

I have an idea I just wanted to run by all of you to see if it makes sense! We need to add a night to our stay in December now that we have our flights booked, but we are one of the "lucky" resale contracts that can't borrow online...to add the night we will also need to purchase a few OTU points.

1) Could I book something that is 7 months from now over the phone that is the exact same number of points as what I will be needing for my December trip and just modify it to what I actually need when that 7 month window opens? I figure I'd rather wait on hold now to do the borrowing/OTU purchasing than at 9 am on my 7 month mark when it is more critical that I get the room I need quickly.

2) If I can do what I am hoping to, and am ultimately trying to book 2 rooms for December, would it be best to book 2 rooms now and modify each or could I do just one and still use the OTU/borrowed points for 2 different rooms?

From what I have seen posted here you cannot buy the one time use points until you hit your 7 month mark so you would have to call anyway at that point.....

So my thought was to do all of this for a date within 7 months of today...so do something like book a random studio or 2 in November that is exactly the number of points I will need for my December day...just to get the OTU purchasing and borrowing out of the way now when I actually have the time to wait on hold =)

Yes. This work around has been posted numerous times. Just make sure that you cancel the bogus reservation before any points go into holding and that the bogus reservation falls in the same UY as the reservation you really want to make.

You might also want to understand that OTUPs cannot be banked and will expire at the end of your UY.

The DVC exception to the holding rule and the return of borrowed points will end after April 30. That means that borrowing to make a December reservation at 7 months will be permanent. Canceling a reservation before 05/01/2021 will have the borrowed points returned. You're going to have to hit that sweet spot between May 1 and the 7-month day in order for your plan to work.

Thanks, I searched and didn't see mention of my work around, glad to know it has worked for others! I am unsure what you mean about the sweet spot though...the day we need to add to our reservation is actually 12/1...so is this not going to work for us after all?

I was hoping to just modify the bogus reservations on 5/1 (7 month mark for the date we need)...so I am guessing I should make my bogus reservations for 2 separate rooms instead of 1? Thanks in advance! I feel like everytime I think I figure something out another issue comes into play!!!

I haven't bought OTU points, so no help there, but I have been able to borrow using resale contracts. I couldn't get it to work on a new reservation, but I could get it to work modifying an existing reservation. But it's Disney IT, so who knows

So weird! Unfortunately we can't modify since we don't have enough points to actually add-on to our stay...2 bedroom VGF is too many points so we are just trying for 2 cheap studios

Ah, gotcha, ok thanks! Maybe I will just hope and pray that the hold is less than 2 hours on 5/1
