I've been playing Words with Friends for a couple of years, but suddenly and for about the past week I keep ending up with games with random people. I must have accidentally hit some setting to cause this. Can someone please help me figure out how to turn off the "random opponent" feature??? I'm not doing anything that I know of to initiate games.

You can always deny the games. I don't see anything to turn it off unless there are additional features in the paid subscription. What's so bad about random games?

And I hate when you deny a game that Word w/Friends counts that as a loss. Just one of those stupid irritations of mine.

Are you looking at the list of games? Or are you actually going into the games? At least on my iPod, Facebook is messing up right now and displaying challengers' names I don't even recognize - but when I go into the game, the opponent has a different name, someone I know.

I actually go into the game. It used to just show people I know, but I think I somehow hit "random opponent" accidentally once and I can't figure out how to make it stop. I'm playing with one stranger, but under my "game over" section there are other games listed with people I don't know that say "You won!". I think they must have all done the same thing I did and accidentally changed their settings to start games with strangers.

Hi KristaTX, :wave2:
I'm having the same problem! Did you find anything that would turn the automatic players off? This just started occurring with me. I haven't amended anything on my settings, so I don't think it is something that I did. I just recently received an update, and I'm wondering if the "automatic" games are now a "feature(!!!!)" that is part of the program. I generally only have 4 games going at the same time. I don't want more and I don't want to have to manually resign every time this occurs! :confused3pixiedust:

Well, I didn't ever find a way to turn it off, but it quit happening. I played one full game with a stranger. Every time it asks me if I want to start a new game with that person or a random opponent, I just decline.

I'm looking at my list of past games right now, and there are five with people besides that one person that I don't know. It says I "won" (I guess they turned me down?) most of them, but one of them says I lost. I guess I turned that person down :confused3.

Anyway. I haven't had any random games pop up in quite a while. But I only currently play my husband on there anyway. Maybe if I played more it would keep doing the random game thing. Not sure if anyone knows .

I had a similar problem in that it would still give me notifications (just like a text or an email) and wouldn't stop even when I deactivated them in Settings. Since I wasn't playing the game anymore, after a while I just deleted it off my phone. No more annoying notifications or game requests :thumbsup2

When a random player pops up, Click on their picture and it takes you to their WWF's Profile. Under their name click on Block/Report User.

This is something new that I do not love. I think the only solution is to decline the game.

I have the paid version (I spent $2.99 years ago and it is worth it to not watch the ads!), and I can't find a way to turn it off, either. I don't want to play the random games because I want to play with my friends, not strangers. We chat while we play.

I agree. I also only want to play with 'real' friends. Also, a couple of these stranger games have been accompanied by creepy messages?
