Word of Caution re: ebay and vmk

I wanted to give you all a heads up and share something that happened last nite. Sassysavanah, myself and a few (dis) friends were sitting in our trade room talking, mostly about ebay and the prices of items there. After about 10 minutes VMK_Lion walks in, politely gives us his trademark "roar" and sits with us. That kind man came to give us all a polite warning about the conversation they monitored, being ebay. He said he did not want to see anyone banned. I explained to him that we had no idea we were doing anything against values since ebay was in the vmk dictionary.

So ppl take it from me. Do not talk about ebay on vmk. He could have banned us right then and there but he didnt as we were all in violation. so....

Vmk Lion we thank you for being so kind to us and explaining what we did wrong rather than just disciplining us like happens so often on and off vmk.

furniture, pin and shirt? If someone asks, "Where did you get that?", I don't
think it should be a problem answering, "It was part of a contest on ebay not
that long ago."

I guess they don't want to encourage talking about ebay commerce.

VMK never sends mixed signals My guess is they never changed their stance - they had to live with the disney promotion but it is still against the values to discuse other web sites. So it is probably ok to say where the dream items came from but at this point I would just say it was from a disney promotion a while ago. safe to say ebay may be on the way out of the dictionary

You are exactly right. So many people were asking about the dreams stuff - people who did not figure out how to say he.bay ended up having a big problem in trying to explain where they got the item.

I was one of those people who discovered VMK through the eBay contest. The minute I put on that shirt and walked into a room, I was pestered and pestered to tell where I got it. But I couldn't figure out how to talk because all the words were blocked. I had people following me and bugging me to trade nonstop (I still haven't figured out how to block trades - ??) Then they would get mad and then rude because I wouldn't tell. People threatened to report me because I wouldn't trade so I stopped wearing the shirt. After a bit I learned how to say he.bay and it wasn't as much of a problem. Then I found I could actually say ebay.

But they still don't want you to talk about the commerce. It's bound to be sore subject for them. And VMK_Lion is very nice - i wanna join the fan club, too!

To block trade requests, click on the shirt icon in the lower right. One of the check boxes toward the bottom of that screen has "block trade requests" or some such verbiage. That's the ticket to paradise!

ROTF! My thoughts exactly.

It was so bizarre for VMK to suddenly get chummy with Ebay. I'm sure you're right; they probably had no choice in the matter and I bet the Dreams contest was mandated from higher up.

But what nonsense to forbid talking about the site itself, now that Ebay is in the dictionary! What on earth do they expect?
