I'd like to get these for the DGDs but don't know exactly how they work. Can anyone enlighten me?

It's an MP3 player. We've never had these because my kids are too old for them. I think they can hold up to 60 songs. There's a memory card slot to also hold 1GB of storage. You would download music on this via a USB cable. They work like an iPod would, but are made for kids and cost much less.
