WONDERous adventures on the Panama Canal - 4/23/17

Hello Everyone! I'm Veronica and I just booked today. This cruise will be my first cruise with Disney and my first cruising solo (as of now). Disney was not exactly my first choice though as I thought it would be much more expensive than the other cruise lines but surprisingly it was one of the cheapest. Fine by me since I love all things Disney! I've wanted to cruise through the Panama Canal for a long time so excited that it's finally booked. :)
I'm a solo too Veronica. I've sailed the WBPC before and it was awesome.

Shoot, I lost my multi-quote

Yes, that was Russell and Dug in the Alaskan cruise. I had to have a pic since I had never seen them either! While waiting for that photo, we spoke with a couple on that cruise that talked up the PC cruise and some more rare character photo opportunities. Very nice couple and they said it was their favorite cruise, we were sold.

Thanks for the kudos for the pics, I love to share them!

@wilma-bride you are not going to make us wait until next year!! :love1:

:welcome: to our newly aboard folks!

I do not know the correct 100% answer for this... But when I booked this cruise, the CM did ask me if all the parties have passports.. And I can not believe that you would want to do this cruise with out a one. If something happened and you needed to leave the boat for a medical emergency, you will need your Passport then to reenter the country...

I would call the fine folks at Disney Cruise Line and just ask them... after all they will be the ones to settle this.

And when you find out please share the answer.. Many thanks
So true. I just got off this years WBPC and we diverted to Acapulco to medical evacuate someone. Get the thought of no passport out of your head, and really, everyone on this threads head.

The servers were very good about telling us what was going on that night/the next day. There were actually 2 BBQs on the 2015 WBPC - one on Canal day and one on the last day at sea. The dessert buffet was listed in the navigator.
This year we had 3. The canal day, (it is a DCL tradition just so you all know) the last sea day before Puerto Vallarta, and then they Grilled up all the remaining lobster tails on the last day.

Ok sorry for all the replies, I might be vary interested in the Star Wars trivia. Big geek here. I will say I like Star Trek better but I love Star Wars as well.

We are more or less decided that we are going to do Alaska in 2019 (yes, I know it's a long way off - we can't fit it in before then). I haven't heard anything negative about the Alaska cruises at all - even the (possible) cold can't put me off, I need to do it.

Y'all had better guess it before then

My friend hearda bout the lobster tails and sent me a FB message - I think she was more excited about that than anything else she'd read about the whole cruise

I will happily add you to the list for the Star Wars trivia. I think the plan is to meet on deck 9 at 10pm. I'm sure Molli will add more details as they're available.

So thinking aloud, for all you previous WBPC cruisers, has anyone gone from the port in San Diego to DL? We are considering doing that, staying the night there and then going home from LAX as flights seem to be easier from there. Just wondering about transportation from the port to DL.....

Hey, even I gave a rather obvious "hint"!!

Woo hoo! Another solo traveler! I asked my sister to join me but she's never cruised before and thinks 2 weeks would be too long for her. I've done 3 cruises so far (not DCL) which were each 7 days and I could have easily spent more days on board so not worried one bit about the 2 week cruise. She's also afraid of having mom guilt since it's Disney and she'd be leaving 4 littles at home. I'm fairly certain in the end she won't be coming. Oh well, I'm still going!

Well it will be good to have another solo buddy, so maybe we can meet up every now and again. I am like you I just like to spend time relaxing, swimming reading and generally chilling out. I like to see the shows, and entertainment and just take things as they come. My son and his wife can't come next year, but I'm going to go solo and have a blast! I have two or three friends that I thought of asking, but I'm also not sure that I wouldn't prefer to cruise solo ha ha!
I can't remember how many cruises I've done already with DCL. Maybe this will be the 8th or 9th? I'd have to look it up. I just love the longer cruises though. You can really kick back knowing that you have 14 nights onboard.

I say I am going solo with mom and her other half tagging along:laughing: I get my own room though as I don't share a bathroom for 2 weeks-there is love, but I have my limits! If you need someone who is ok at Disney trivia, horrible at TV trivia and just awesome at chilling, look me up.
On another note, now that I have gotten sick I am doing better at reading what I refer to now as THE book. Enforced captivity does wonders.

We went to DL straight after last year - we drove up from SD, stayed a couple of nights and then flew home from LAX. Next year we plan to just drive up to LAX straight from SD to fly home the same day.

Hey, I gave you all a hint - I said it had to do with my husband ;)

I absolutely LOVE the trivia on the ship - Obscurity trivia was my favourite pastime on the last WBPC, I hope they have that again. All of our group love the trivia events - you would be welcome to join us at any/all :)

I LOVE trivia! All kinds even though I'm not too good at it. The worst is when you think you'll totally ace a certain category and you only get like 6 out of 20 right! Eek!

The past 2 cruises I've been on I was desperate for company so invited a close friend one trip and then a cousin on another. I didn't have them pay for half because I knew they couldn't afford it and also I was thinking 'I have to pay for 2 people anyway, why does it matter?'. Well, the cruises were great but sharing the cabin was ick. I've never lived with someone and not married so haven't shared a room since with my sister when I was teenager. I've come to quickly realize how much I really need my own space and privacy. Even when I cruised with my Mom it was a little tough. I did ask my sister if she wanted to join me for this cruise and I totally wouldn't mind sharing a cabin with her as we shared a room growing up and she's just all around awesome.

My last cruise was a Western Caribbean on RCL. Overall it was a good cruise but realized fairly quickly that the style of cruising was not for me. Lots of loud music, drunk people and overall party central. Which is fine! I know people need to unwind but nope, it wasn't for me. I couldn't even find a quiet place to read. This was on a bigger ship than I what I've cruised on before and so smaller ships and longer cruises are going to be a definite priority.
I love the shows! And trivia and listening to the live music and relaxing with a good book...

@Shock13 I am so like you! Maybe it was sharing my space with sisters growing up that makes me say no now. I never married either and I am ok with sharing the 1 bedroom concierge suite this year with mom, but only because it has 2 bathrooms. I could maybe do another trip with either of my sisters as 2 of us did a two week European vacation sharing some small spaces. What memories those are!
