We love those space bags. Stowing some stuff in one over the weekend got me wondering if there is a way to pack for our 2-week trip with space bags without having to carry a vacuum cleaner with us in the popup.

Is there a small portable vacuum pump that would do the same thing?

They make some that you just seal and roll them to squeeze out the air - no vaccuum required. I bought some from QVC years ago, not sure where to look now, but they were Space Bags brand.

We use them for camping all of the time - keep our bedding in them (can't stand sleeping bags, we use a duvet), and also bulky sweaters etc. We just roll them to get the air out when it's time to repack on site,,,we tent camp, so space in the car is at a premium and these really help.

We have an air pump that sucks the air out too. It is a handheld too. I didn't think about it but that is a really good idea. Thanks for the tip. I use them at home.

Thanks all! I think we are definitely going to invest in a small pump - either hand pump or powered one. We have plenty of bags already. I think this is the best way to go to pack for 2 weeks - I don't want to do laundry any more than I have to!
