Friday the 13th!!!!!!
The night before I do some last minute packing. DH decides he wants to help out. I tell him that I have it under control thanks to Calgon's packing list. "Who is Calgon?" he asks. "Someone from the DIS", I say. "Oh, I should have known" he replies. He then tries to pack Cruise clothes into the pre cruise suitcase. I tell him that one of the suitcases is for the cruise and the other is before and after the cruise. He looks at me like I have lost my mind. I tell him to trust me. We go to bed and of course I can't sleep with anticipation of the cruise in my mind.
We wake up and start to load the car. Oh noooooooooooo. All of our suitcases won't fit into the car. I had bought all new luggage for the trip and never gave it a thought that maybe it would not all fit into the car. We condense everything and squeeze it all in. I see a truck pull in at the end of our drive and it is the contractors. We had major hail damage to our house in April and the contractors were still working on getting the house back together. A man walks up and says he is the owner of the company. He starts looking at the work being done and realizes that the work was not being done right and that part of our roof would have to be torn off and done again along with some other things. At this point I don't care if the whole house falls down. I just want to get going on our drive to the port. Finally, I get the kids, DH and I into the car and we take off. We are from central Ohio and have a long drive ahead of us. As we hit West Virginia, I notice that almost every car on the road is from Ohio. Next we hit Virginia and decide to stop at the welcome center. Yikes!!!! There are no parking spots and everyone has decided to park along the on ramp and hoof it back to the center. We just keep driving through. Every other car on the road is from Ohio. Has everyone from Ohio decided to leave the state at once??!!! We make it to our first hotel stop for the night. I had made a computer reservation for the Days Inn in Statesville North Carolina. They were having a special promotion for an awesome price. We pull up to the hotel and I am starting to get worried. The hotel looks dated and worn down. The pool looks worn also. We check in and get to our room. Our room is along the freeway. How bad could it be?!!!! We are all tired and decide to go to sleep. A huge spotlight is now lighting up the outside of our room. I can now hear in mega sound every car and truck that drives by. I try to go to sleep. The kids are asleep and DH is trying to get to sleep. I spend the rest of the night with our room lit up by the outside spotlight listening to the freeway. I start to nod off and come to a dream state of where I am strapped down to the middle of the freeway with toothpicks prying my eyes open. Blinding light is forced into my face while thousands of trucks cruise by me. I can't get out of this dream state and it lasts all night. The alarm goes off and I realize I have only gotten a little bit of sleep. The kids are rested and even DH seemed to have gotten some shut eye. We did have ressies for the hotel on the way back but I tell DH that he must cancel them and he does. Hotels are like a box of chocolates....you never know what you are going to get.
Saturday the 14th...
We get back on the road and drive to Florida. Everywhere we look there are more and more cars from Ohio. The drive was easy. Hardly any construction and hardly any police on the roads. We end up at the Days Inn in Titusville. I am scared to death to check in. Wow, the hotel is clean and updated with tasteful decor. The pool is beautiful and nicely landscaped. Yeah, I very nice clean hotel. We eat at Dennys and come back for an evening swim. A nice quiet sleep was had by all.
