Wonder - Change in Itinerary February 2022

Hi All - we just received a notification that our Wonder February 2022 cruise changed its itinerary pretty dramatically. It was supposed to visit Castaway Cay and Key West. It's now stopping at Cozumel and Costa Maya. I am so upset that we are no longer going to Castaway Cay. That was one of the highlights of our previous cruise. I'm strongly thinking about cancelling our reservation since I don't think we'll take our children off the boat at Cozumel and Costa Maya. But I thought I would post here to see if there's anything I'm not considering. Anything for kids at these ports in Mexico? We booked in 2020 and our family has been looking forward to this trip for a long time, so this is a major disappointment. Thanks, all!

Same. I'm super upset about it and $400 credit is not making up for it. We really don't care for Cozumel or Costa Maya... Apparently Key West is refusing cruise ships to dock so Disney had to switch to a different itinerary. I'm now looking at Fall 2022 but was so looking forward to going to New Orleans...

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in being disappointed. The Key West explanation makes sense. I'm just shocked they completely removed Castaway Cay. I know there are a lot of nuances in scheduling ports, but I would have even accepted JUST the stop at Castaway Cay (and cancelled Key West) rather than this big change.

Castaway Cay is one of the reasons why we sail Disney in the Caribbeans, so I would be disappointed too. That said, Cozumel and Costa Maya offer plenty for kids and families. Cozumel is next to Cancun - so better beaches, warmer waters in February - and you can also do all sorts of water activities, check out the Mayan ruins, or hit the Xcaret Park.

Costa Maya has water parks, including the newly opened Maya/Lost Mayan Kingdom. If your kids are into a bit of thrill, this should keep them happy.

Thanks to @Intr3pid, I started to research Port Adventures. It looks like the Cozumel Beach Break excursion is pretty comparable to Castaway Cay (even includes food and drinks) and fortunately the credit might cover it.

We have a Wonder cruise in booked January 2022 that had the same changes made and were definitely really disappointed as well. It hadn't occurred to me that Castaway Cay stops would get *taken away* - I of course would have been fine dropping Key West but I figured they'd just add sea days or another CC stop, not remove the one that was already there. Similar to you, we've had that cruise booked for over a year, and for most of the people going it will have been 2 years since their last cruise by that point.

All that said, we're planning to keep the reservation. It's a bummer but we'll have other opportunities to go to Castaway Cay, and for us the real dealbreaker is that we wanted the cruise out of Galveston, not any of the Florida ports, and it doesn't look like any of the Galveston cruises have a Castaway Cay stop anymore so it's not like there's a good alternative. Plus, even if the itinerary does include Castaway Cay, there's never actually any guarantee you'll get to go, since if the weather is bad they can't dock. We love our itinerary otherwise so I'd hate to give that up for something we like less and then not get to go to Castaway Cay in the end after all.

It's good to hear there's fun stuff to do in the new ports - I'll definitely be following this thread to see what others have to suggest as well.

Super sad. We actually moved our cruise to an earlier feb date and saved $$. Very disappointed. I have vacationed extensively throughout Mexico but I don’t really want to visit right now (crime in Cabo and Cozumel areas).
