In case you missed the planning report...

Me (36) and mom (72), travelling with my friend from work and his 3 (now 2 ) friends. Three night Wonder cruise, then 6 nights at WDW. First Disney cruise for all...

Saturday, May 12

Well, all good things must come to an end, and today we head home. It seemed like a long vacation though (I guess with the cruise and then Disney it seemed like 2 vacations), and we were ready to head home.

Mickey woke us up one last time at 7:00 and we headed down to Boma again for breakfast. Once again, it was great, and I really miss the Frunch. Can someone please make some for me and send it over?

I stopped at our store one last time (got 2 African bracelets for my friends) and saw CM Jonathan (who checked us in) was at the desk. I went up and thanked him for the great room on Ostrich Trail, and he just wanted to chat away! He asked me how I liked the view, if I enjoyed Boma (mentioned the zebra dome dessert again...his favorite), and commented on my t-shirt (the Tigger one I bought Thursday). Soon, 2 other CMs were joining the conversation, and I had to tell them where I got my shirt (apparently it was a new item). The CMs here are awesome. I finally had to drag myself away...I think they would have talked all day!

Went to the room and called bell services. Came immediately. Stored our luggage, and mom and I sat in the rocking chairs on one of the porches overlooking the savannah for awhile. Said goodbye to our giraffes and headed out.

Our Tiffany Town car was already there (at 9:15...scheduled for 9:30), so we got our luggage out of storage. Two of the CMs at the valet desk outside also commented on my shirt and asked us how we liked the resort. We told them how great we thought it was, and they said they loved it there too...both of them came over from "The Grand" (as they called it) and liked it here much better. Said the people were nicer, not as snobby (their words...not mine). Once again, we had to drag ourselves away...

The ride to the airport was very quick and uneventful. I had never done Tiffany before, and it was so much nicer than Mears (though a little more expensive, but what the heck...we were on vacation). Our driver was not very friendly though. We made it to the airport in record time.

Checked in the long US Airways line by 10:00 and headed to our gate. The boys had an earlier flight, but they were at the agte right next to us, so we sat and talked until their flight took off. Went and got a Pepsi and hit the restroom before we boarded at 11:10.

The flight was full (their was even a bumping announcement made), and poor mom had to sit next to a rather large woman who asked mom if she could raise the armrest. Please don't be offended by this...mom and I are not exaclty "petite" either, but this made for a very uncomfortable flight for mom and I (since she had me squeezed into the window). Oh well, at least it's a rather short flight. I read a magazine and had the snack (a cold grilled chicken sandwich, tortilla chips, salsa, cookie, candy...interesting). I asked for the whole can of Coke (the salsa was hot). I always wanted to do that :) The only good thing about eating on the plane is that it passes time...

Landed around 1:40. We were in back, so it took awhile to get off. Hit the restroom, and headed down for our luggage. I had seen it getting on and off the plane...love that bright pink ribbon! Came relatively quick, and we headed off to the parking shuttle. In the car, off by 2:30.

We headed straight to the kennel for Belle. I know this isn't trip related, but I have to mention it. Apparently, she made some friends with other dogs (unlike what I'd heard Sunday). She and a few other Bichons formed a little "clique" and hung out. She was very happy to see us both though, and wanted to go home. She was fine too (no behavior problems)..., just a little tired and hoarse (her bark sounded so funny). There was a thread about people worrying about their dogs while they were away posted on here awhile back, so I'm glad to report everything turned out okay for us.

We were home by 4:00, and started with the fun of unpacking, going through the mail, etc (I had like 12 magazines and catalogs alone). The house was still here. Belle needed a bath (kennel smell). Dinner was McDonalds...back to reality.

Final thoughts...

The good:

Animal Kingdom Lodge. A truly beautiful resort, with the friendliest CMs ever! Great, clean room, awesome pool and views. Boma was a great restaurant.

Florida weather. We lucked out. Sunny, not too hot, no rain.

Frunch at Boma and kaki-goris. Yum.

MGM Studios. My (and moms) new favorite park. Manageable, and such a nice atmosphere. Three of my favorite attractions (Tower, Rock'n'Roller, Millionaire) and one of moms (Star Tours).

Tony's. Great breakfast and dinner. Nice discovery...

Travelling with "the boys". It's always fun doing stuff with these guys, and our dinners together were so much fun.

The bad:

Mom's legs. They are back to normal now, but it always worries me when they swell like that.

EPCOT crowds on Monday, and Magic Kingdom crowds on Thursday (due to Spectromagic). Yuck! Whatever happened to slow season?

Missing my Belley. Wish she could come along. She would have loved all the animals at AKL!

Well, that's it. Thanks for sticking with me through all this! Fell free to ask any questions about the cruise or WDW portion of the trip! (LynneluvsWDW@aol.com)

Thanks for a wonderful trip report. I keep hearing such great things about AKL, one day.... anyway, I'm glad you are home safely and your "baby" is ok too. My snuggles was my baby and I understand about leaving them.

Thanks for taking the time to post your trip report!! I enjoyed it and I really felt like your long lost WDW twin or something while reading it!!!

Just read through your reports - sounds like a wonderful time. I definately would like to stay at AKL sometime and will at least get to hopefully try Boma on our Sept trip.
