We had Jimmy from Golden Limo provide us with all of our transportation during our trip and he picked us up promptly at 10am from the Beach Club to take us to Port. We arrived around 11:30am where there were very few people waiting inside. Wow, what a different change for us. There were helpful CM’s there who made sure our documents were done correctly and check-in was a breeze . . .When we were done checking in, the boarding had already started . . .We walked in and were in awe . . .our name was announced and there was a band playing and it was very festive . . .We headed up to Beach Blanket Buffet where we had our first taste of what the food was going to be like, it was delicious! It was a very windy day and the ocean looked a bit rough. After we walked around for a bit after lunch, we were allowed to our cabins. We had Cabin #6542 on Deck 6 Mid-Ship. I was surprised at how large it actually was and we definitely liked having our own private verandah. We really liked how the bathroom area was split. On one side there was a shower/tub and sink and the other side had the toilet and another sink. The kids were happy with their set up as well. Our luggage was dropped off by the door shortly thereafter and we hung up mostly our dinner clothes. We were able to fit 1 suitcase in the closet and we slid the other three underneath our bed. We basically didn’t fully unpack, but there seemed to be more drawers for anyone who wanted to go all out and unpack everything.

At 4pm we all donned our life-vests and went to drill, then headed back to our cabin to get dressed for dinner and ready for the 5pm sail away party.

We had dining rotation TAPP. The sail away party was really nice and when that DCL horn blew . . .what a nice sound! Captain Henry had made an announcement prior to the sail away party to say that we would experience some “rough” seas till about 11pm. We had all taken the Bonine beforehand and didn’t feel we had anything to worry about, boy were we wrong! We were all dressed nicely for our 1st dinner which was at Triton’s and we were taken to our own private table for 4 (#42) where we first met our servers, Dana and Ian. As we were sitting there the motion of the ship started . . .people around us were ordering wine and drinks and seemed not to notice . . .DD started to look pale as did DH, but I didn’t want to believe that they would actually feel sick . . .all of a sudden, I started to feel warm . . .then I knew I would have to leave the table . . .DD followed me and we headed to the nearest bathroom . . .I couldn’t believe I was sick . . .the motion persisted and I felt a bit better and headed back to our table where our appetizers were already waiting for us . . .yeah, right, I couldn’t even look at it. DH then left the table and found himself in the bathroom as I was previous . . .when he came back, we all decided that we’d be better off in our cabin . . .Dana and Ian looked worried for us and offered to bring our meals up. As I was leaving Triton’s nobody else looked ill at all . . .I was thinking, is it all in our heads, or what? After stumbling (literally) to our cabin (it was like we were drunk, banging into the hallway walls) we made it to our cabin which thankfully was already made up for us. Dana also arrived carrying our food, which I graciously accepted, but had no intention of eating it. We all got into our beds, fully clothed, and fell asleep . . .the motion was pretty bad and I repeatedly got sick, not the way I envisioned our cruise at all. We slept the entire night, in our clothes, until 7am the next morning. The food remained on the floor the entire night, nobody touched it . . .hmmmmmm wonder if instead of gaining weight (like people always say they do) we’ll actually lose weight?

Oh no! Don't tell me this! We sail 8 weeks from today and I'm scared to death that DH and DD11 will be sick and hate me. This is ALL my idea and he is along for the ride, but not having a good attitude. I tell him that he is bound and determined NOT to have a good time.
I've read your whole report and am glad to see that it did work out in the end...except for your teen DD that didn't enjoy it.
Melanie

Don't worry . . .I think my experience with the motion was just a freak thing. I have heard many people tell me that it is never that way at all.

You will all have fun I'm sure . . .My DD is more of a shy, quiet type of teen, but my DS had a blast as I'm sure your DD will.

Have a great time!

We were on that same cruise cabin #6538 & 6536. We had the same dining rotation. What a small world.
The waves that night I was told were 16 - 18 ft. The whole ship was rocking. At Tritons that night we sat by a window table # 8. The large decoration against the window kept banging. Half way through dinner my 5 year old felt sick. My husband finished dinner and they went back. I waited for them to wrap up my other son's dinner and headed back. Our two mothers stayed for dessert. I felt fine but it was tough walking back. When I got to the room my husband was now in bed. Three year (almost 4) was fine playing in the cabin. We called guest services them told us to get the wristband or the pills. I ran down bought 2 sets of bands. They already had them out on the counter. They cost $11.00 for each set. My sons felt better about 20 min later and actually finished his dinner. My husband was out for the night. Never got sick to his stomach. Just didn't feel good. I ran back to Triton to eat my crème brulee and a little girl (probably across the hall from your room) was getting sick in the hall. I turnaround and went to the forward stairs. Saw someone else getting sick on the staircase. I went back and ate my dessert. Our mothers went to the show. They said people were falling as they tried to walk down the stairs in the theater. I stay in the room to make sure everyone was feeling okay. The ship creaked and rolled all night.
Everyone felt fine in the morning and then it was smooth sailing.
Don't feel bad I talked to a lot of people who felt sick that night. The seas were very rough. It has not stopped us from planning our next cruise.

Did you happen to notice our door?

Oh yeah! I did see that on your door . . .you were a few cabins down from me.

I'm glad to see that you witnessed others not feeling well, I swear when we left Tritons people were acting like nothing was even happening . . .lol

My DS wants to go on the 7 Day Cruise . . .but we'll see . . .I think DH would rather stay on land . . .and I know that DD won't have any part in going on another cruise . . .that first night is still fresh in our minds yet.

I really did enjoy the service though . . . :sunny:

Hi Wish Upon A Star, our family was on the same cruise as you! We're the family that said hi to you at Castaway Cay and we also said that your two kids are famous because they have their photo on the DIS forum! That first night was way to rocking for our family also, we were ok at Tritons but by the time we got back to our room we all felt ill. Our DD (who's 13) went right to bed and fell asleep the movement of the ship does that to her! My DW & I went to the spa but after walking down the hallways or I should say slamming against the walls we should have gone back to our cabin! Wasn't that the wildest way to walk!! :rotfl:

 Yes, I remember . . .my kids remember too . . . :)

DH didn't like being slammed into the walls . . .it was pretty funny though reliving it in my head . . .I was behind all three of them and they all looked wasted . . . :rotfl: Other than that very first night the cruise was absolutely perfect.

Another one who was on that cruise - cabin 8078 aft. Wasn't that first night something??? I swear I would have gotten off the ship right then and there if the offer was made. Sorry to hear that it affected you so badly. I was very surprised that I didn't get sick as I have a very sensitive stomach. We were at PC the first night and it was real strange watching DD's crayons just roll off the table with the motion....

The tough part was getting back to the cabin. We went to the Hercules show (LOVED it!) and walking through the main (large) areas was very difficult because there was nothing to grab onto! We saw CM's all over with their "vomit suckeruppers" and remnants of guest dinners on the floor. I tried to use a public bathroom twice and both times someone was getting sick in there so I left.

Walking down the hallway to our cabin was actually funny since we could hold onto the railings. I felt so drunk after not drinking a thing other than water.

Laying in bed that night while my family slept and the ship was rocking back and forth, sliders going back and forth and what seemed like every fiber in the walls creaking, I kept questioning WHAT THE HECK HAVE WE GOTTEN OURSELVES INTO???? I was NOT having a good time and was very nervous.

Fortunately that was the worst of it and the rest of the cruise was great. I didn't think I would like the day at sea but I LOVED it! We hope to go back June 2007 for our 20th anniversary and we were thinking about a 7 day cruise but I am not sure I would last that long..

Wonder how many times we all passed each other... :)

Jill

We were on the 4/30 Magic and my 8 year old son was sick the whole time. He lost nine pounds on the cruise! We went to the doctor twice and was assured it was just motion sickness. Poor guy. I actually saw a lot of sick people. I guess everyone is just different. Needless to say, this was our first and last cruise. Too bad because it seemed like it could have been fun.
