I have a question for those of you who have very long and thick hair (or have girlfriends/wives who do). How do you wear your hair when you go somewhere fancy? I almost always wear my hair loose. Maybe once or twice a month I put it in a ponytail. Tomorrow night I´m going out, somewhere very fancy, and would love to do just SOMETHING with my hair and I have no idea what to do.

My hair is very long (a little more than waist long) and very thick.

Your hair sounds gorgeous! I too have long, thick hair and almost always wear it loose. For a fancy evening, I gather a little of my hair on both sides, twist and then pull it back with a pretty clip.:goodvibes I can't wear pony tails because it gives me a headache!

I like a semi-updo - down in the back, but pulled off the face at the sides and crown, with a few loose tendrils around the face. I don't like my hair pulled completely up.

Thanks :) Ponytails give me headaches too, which is exactly why I don´t wear them very often. And usually, when I go out I do the same as you do, pull a little bit of the hair from each side away with a clip. Probably will end up doing the same tomorrow ;)

Sounds great. Do you the hair from the sides and crown up in some way?

I keep a couple of fashion magazines on hand and I follow the instructions in them as best I can. I'm not very good with hair - but I can manage to get my hair looking pretty good if I practice for a while and use the accessories they show in the pictures. If it's a really special event and I have a couple of extra dollars, I'd go to the salon and have them do it for me. Good luck!

These long hair lovers can suggest and/or show you tons of hairdos!

You have to have 25 posts before you can view "private" albums but there are many photos still available for viewing.

I agree with this. I imagine it's very difficult to fashion waist-length hair in a chic, elegant, and stylish way. Find some pictures of what you like.

I would definately have gone to my salon if this event wasn´t hosted at a hotel out in the countryside and we have to leave early tomorrow morning.

I do large rollers on the sides and top to add height and loose, full waves. That's my going out 'do!

How do you do your "loose, full waves"? Do you have natural waves?

Hot rollers will give you that effect. My have is just slightly wavy to begin with. But the rollers do the trick. I shake out my hair after I take out the rollers, run my fingers through and spray.

Having long hair makes it so much easier to do things with. My hair is naturally thin and straight. It doesn't like to hold curls and other things for very long without a whole can of hairspray. I also can't wear it down without having something to hold it back or else it's just in the way, and lately it's been in a braid every day cause of work.

You can always take the top half and pull it back into a braid and leave the rest hanging.

Mine is not thick (or thin) but I always curl and spray the heck out of it to go out nice. Nothing black tie but still nice dinners or weddings.

They gave you a days notice? Wow!

No, they gave me a couple of weeks notice, so that´s no problem. However, I won´t have time to go to a salon before we leave in the morning, and there´s no place to have my hair done near the hotel.

I had really long hair until Jan when I cut it off. :) I just pulled it into a pony at the back of my neck and twisted until it was all up and then used a clip to keep it up. Claw clips work best and I've seen some pretty ones.
My alternate was half up half down, down in the back with long curls (curling iron) and up in the front/top. Sort of pulling our bangs back into a pony but I used a barrette instead.

i do have very thick hair mine is not as long as yours but my advice would probably going to a salon as well. I usually just flat iron it and wear it down. Good Luck!

What do I do with my hair when going somewhere fancy? I pay my hair lady to fix it up for me.

Normally it's in a messy bun or pony tail. My hair is too thick to have down all the time, it gets too hot.

As a visual of my hair, it's long to where it goes just above my belly button and when straightened, my thumb and index finger would not touch if I made a ring around my hair, where I would put my hair tie.

I tend to play around with the hair, something leavy it curly and just pining the sides back, however, lately I have been making the hair a bit more straight, then curling the ends slightly like a princess curl (only on special occasions) rest of the time, I usually french twist it and leave.
