Oh, I think I've found my calling. Selling "trendy" brands on the black market to over 40's. Meet me around back.......ma'am.
I have not been around much and just read thru this entire thread.
Just want to say Smitch, you look great in that red top. You can dress in a top like that. Heck, I'm 49 and I'd wear that top!
But I'm a hairdresser and hairdressers are known for wearing some "fun" clothing.
I have an almost 20yo DD and I can tell you I dress way cuter than she does. She is uninterested in cute clothes. She's all about practical, comfy, and such. When she does try, she's quite preppy which always looks nice. I have days where I dress preppy also.
AArcher, I love those jeans you posted. I will be going to AE to try a pair on. Tomorrow. They better have them at my AE.
And if I can't wear them I'm going to cry.
And then I will diet and run until I can wear those jeans.
To the 2 ladies who posted sweaters---the blue cardigan is so pretty. I loved it! And that long one that had the V neck from Macy's--OMG, I would so wear that. I loved that sweater but, it was a bit expensive for me, really. I spend most of my time cutting hair and it gets everywhere...not a great thing for a sweater over $50 bucks.
I have put things on and looked in the dressing room mirror and thought, NOPE, you're too old for this. But I'm not dressing in 12yo clothing either, lol. That red top is better on Smitch than on a 12yo.
The trouble is, kids want to wear more mature clothing (not old lady) so they take women's clothing and cut those women's clothing down to fit a 12yo's figure. It's been happening for years now.
I'm in the business of making women look beautiful. I think if you wear some cute, trendy, well fitting clothing (even classic styles, I'm not talking faddish), have your hair in a nice style, possibly a bit of makeup or a little more and some cute jewelry, you're going to feel a lot better about yourself and more confident. I see it all the time.
I do not care if you are very overweight, if you are trying to look good, and we have all seen someone who is very overweight pull off looking great, it really works and shows. They are looking good, happy, confident, pleasant and someone you want to be around. You can look good at any size--just do not look like those 4 old women on the couch someone posted!!
Sometimes my mom wears that mock turtleneck with a sweatshirt (she is 76) and when she does, I call her on it. She might do it anyway but I let her know she has plenty in her closet to look better in than that!
The thing that go me with this thread is so many people saying wear age appropriate clothing ("not that red top!!"<---what?! she looks great in that top!) and then I saw another thread say, "Yes, go put pink, or purple highlights in your hair!" to someone over 30.
That's so crazy...no cute red top, but pink hair is OK.
BTW, I say do whatever you want because that hairdresser is going to take your money if you want purple streaks in your hair, are you kidding?! lol Hell yeah it looks good!
And while you're at it, get some feathers.
