How long does it last on your nails????? Mine lasts 2 days tops! It doesn't matter if I use the cheap stuff or expensive stuff! It always starts peeling after a couple days! Am I rough with my hands or do you have similar experiences?? Enlighten me! ;)

Mine only lasts for a day or so. I think that the chlorine burns it off! I gave up on it, and only wear it for special occasions.:sunny:

Are you using a base and a top coat? My nail polish usually stays looking good for a week, I use both. I also use OPI nail polish, I find it lasts the longest.

i love spending $20 on a french manicure only to have it peel off the next day.

I think I'm rough on my hands...wash them alot too...or, at the very least, put them in water alot.

even if I do my nails myself...I'm only getting 2-3 days of it looking 'nice'.

a pedicure, on the other hand - I can get that to last nearly 3 weeks no problem!

maybe poohandwendy can provide some advice?

when I PAY for a manicure - it's OPI or China Glaze (??)...at home I usually use revlon with a sally hansen base/top coat.

Mine lasts me about 5 days and then the tips are starting to be "worn away" I do type a *ton* at work though and always have long nails. I have only had nail polish "peel" off if it was done too thick. The rest of the time it will slowly "chip" away.

i also like opi. my favorite "cheap" polish is l'oreal jet set. it dries really quickly, i like their colors, and it seems to last about a week for me.

i bought some really cheap polish at old navy one time and it didn't even last a day!!!

My nails are really soft. Nail polish (with base coat and top coat) chips at the top after 1 shower. The only time is stays on is when I do acrylics. So, I think my real nails just bend too much. If anyone has some miracle solution, pplease let us know!

Natural nails are like skin, in that they sweat oils/moisture (so to speak). Some people have naturally ''oily'' or moist nails, some naturally dry. Just think if you applied nail polish to your skin, how long would it last before wearing off? The tips show the quickest wear due to the fact that we use our nails as tools. (typing, digging in our purse, picking up items off the floor, scratching off sticky labels)

Tips to longer lasting polish:

Start with spanking clean, dry nails. Any residue, soap/oil etc will result in chipping, flaking off fairly quickly. ALWAYS use a good base coat. Apply 2 thin coats of polish and then a coat of top coat. The trick is not to slather on the layers heavy. Thicker is not better. Thickly applied polish will not dry consistently and will just peel off.

hope that helps....

Polish lasts on acrylic because it is plastic, natural nails are alive like skin (see above).

If your nails are really soft, you probably have 'moist' nails...try dehydrating them before polishing. Use rubbing alcohol before you apply the base coat. It should help, but remember they are still natural nails, getting 1 full week without ny chips is really good. Also, if I could come up with a miracle...we would ALL be talking face to face in the Grand Floridian...on my dime.... :teeth:

CONSTANT chipping ! GRRR! I hate it!
Is there no way to avoid it?
I tried eyerything. Base coats, top coats, refreshing the polish every other day......the whole 9 yards.

I recently had gel put over my real nails. It's nice & thin, but tough enough to handle all the abuse ( typing, dishes, a husband, housework etc.)

I am amazed. I kept my length (short) but had them done on Friday & here we are on Tuesday - they still look awesome!
No chipping whatsoever.

The gel does require maintenance (Fills every 2 weeks) but it looks like a regular manicure & keeps the polish on!!!

I am really happy with the way they look.
Check where you would get acrylics done - see if they do gels - I recomend it!

Toe nails are generally 'dryer' and do not get near the abuse as fingernails...

OPI is my fav polish, it lasts the longest IMHO. But, I think that is, in part, because it applies so smoothly...

Mine has been lasting, and I have natural nails. I remove the old polish, file, and then buff them really well. The buffing seems to help a lot. When I apply the polish I am certain to let each coat dry fully. If it is too thick, it will peel sooner.

Very true, polish lasts for a long time on acrylic or gels. One word of caution though, if you have nice, natural nails and do not plan on keeping up with the maintenance, you may be very disappointed with the condition of your nails after the acrylic or gels are eventually removed. (I mean 'you' in the general sense, not the poster I quoted)

Will try! Thanks for the info! Yes, face to face a tthe Grand FLoridian would be better, though!

I gave up on painting my nails a loooong time ago. It's just not worth it, after a day they're already starting to look not so good. So now I just paint my nails for the summer.

I generally last about a week.

I only use Channel polish. I've tried tons, and found that Channel is the longest lasting, plus it dries faster.

Even when I go to a Spa for a manicure, I haul my Channel along.;)

And, no, I don't work for Channel.
