Trying to do a poll!

Just curious! :) Thanks.

I chose "no drugs", and did it that way twice. I was more afraid of the epidural needle than I was the pain, plus I have a very high tolerance for pain.

Depends on which kid you're asking about...#1, natural for 25hrs, then epidural for the remaining 6hrs...#2 epidural for 7hrs, epidural wore off, baby got in bad trouble, delivered natural(including the episiotomy~ow~)...#3 epidural for 8hrs, puked my guts out, stopped epidural, deliverd natural 1hr later. the only one I really needed it for was #1, but they thought I would be a Csection with all three and I'm basically a weinie when it comes to pain. So I opted for the epidural. Knowing what I know now--I'd probably just go natural and get it over with.

Both. Epidural with first two kids and au natural with the third (by choice, no less LOL)

Had epidural with DD but it wore off with no time for a boost before she was delivered..so a bit of both. I was also given something when we arrived at the hospital at 2 am..but I was in labor 6 weeks early and had to go on a 40 min ambulance ride to a hosp with a nicu..so i think it was to calm me a bit. I dont remember the details :)

My advise...do what you feel is right for you. :goodvibes

With my DD, I got an epidual. I am very afraid of needles, but the labor pains were so intense that the needle did not bother me at all. My DH has my before epidual pics... :furious: and my after epidural pics :cheer2: .

We wanted children who could walk, talk and were out of diapers. We adopted.

Neither of us wanted any part of a delivery room but we wanted to be parents. This was our perfect alternative. (The kids think so, too.)

Completely natural with all 3, meaning no IV, no continuous monitoring, no pitocin, no epidural, no narcotics (just a quick local anesthetic after episiotomy with #1). #2 & #3 - no episiotomy at all - in fact, not one internal exam the entire pregnancy or during the birth.

Recovery time - next to zero.

First DD had no drugs- labor was going too fast by the time I got to the hospital. It hurt like a mother!!!!

DD #2- got epidural early enough and hardly felt anything!
We were watching TV when the doctor came in and said I was ready to push!

Natural both times. I was in a lot of pain but I HATE needles. With my first a lady down the hall was screaming so much that I kept waiting for it to get so bad that I would scream like that. It terrified me but I never did lose control that way. I did get a bit cranky w/DH when he said complained about being bored and tired :teeth:

I planned a natural, drug free birth with my first. things went fine for a while, but he wasn't doing so well and I ended up having a c-section. (had a repeat section with my twins since they were breech).

You know, I am not saying this to sway anyone one way or the other...as I feel women should do what they feel is right for their L/D. But, I have to say...I was totally floored at the difference between the recovery of a natural birth and the recovery of an epidural birth.

I really didn't think it would make much difference. HUGE difference. I felt like I had not even given birth after my natural delivery. Seriously. I literally felt great within minutes of delivery, compared to the few weeks I felt uncomfortable after the epidurals.

I am not sure why, just night and day difference.

Sorry, our post took me off topic sort of...

Every drug I could get. Didn't even bother attending Lamaze or Bradley classes. I knew I wanted as little pain as possible.

But if I were doing it today, I'd try to do it without the drugs. Easy to say when there's no chance, but true.

I put Other...meaning some of each.

dd: no pain killers of any sort
dd: epidural that fell out not once but TWICE. so pain was controlled sometimes, but came back between epidural re-placements, lol
ds: epidural only worked from my right thigh down. Since labor doesn't HURT YOUR THIGH, it did nothing but make that right leg itchy in between horrifically painful contractions.
dd: epidural worked beautifully.

I've only had one baby but I didn't have any drugs either and I felt great as soon as he was born too. He was born at 9 am and I wanted to go out to lunch at noon with the rest of my family! I just wanted a day pass, I would have gone back--I loved the nurses who brought warm bottles--NO way was I going home too soon.

My first was a C-section. The others, I didn't have an epidural, but I did get pain killers via IV.

I tried to do it natural, but I was on pitocin and the contractions were coming so hard so fast that I broke down and got the epidural. I delivered my son in three pushes and didn't have any side effects. If I were to have another child, I would try again with no drugs--just because I don't like the needle.
