Woman: I Faked Child's Cancer To Keep Husband
Woman Sentenced To 6.5 Years In Prison
UPDATED: 10:26 a.m. EST March 29, 2004
MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- An Ohio mom in prison for faking her daughter's cancer said she did it to keep her husband from leaving her.

Teresa Milbrandt said she regrets what she did. She shaved her daughter's head to make it look like she had chemotherapy symptoms.
Milbrandt pleaded guilty last summer to endangering children and theft after starting a collection for her daughter's leukemia treatments. She was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison.

The now 8-year-old girl has been placed in a foster home and is in a program for talented and gifted students at her elementary school.
Authorities said Milbrandt and her husband fooled 65 people and businesses in their hometown of Urbana into donating an estimated $31,000 for Hannah's treatment.
Milbrandt said the ruse began in early 2002 during intense arguments between her and her husband.

I can't understand her thinking at all.

Let's see. My husband wants to leave me and I'm broke. How can I solve both problems? Oh, I know, I'll say my daughter has cancer!
The minds of these people is just absolutely incredible:mad:

I heard about this earlier and it infuriated me. It's so unthinkable - and someone actually did it. :(

I dont quite get it, her and the husband were fooling people but she was fooling him to keep him around? I seem to be lost on that part.

 Some people are so disturbed. Poor little girl.

LOL, I hate it when that happens. ::yes::

Poor little girl. Now she doesn't have two of her parents. I heard about this first on the news and thought what was this lady thinking. Doing this to her child, husband, and also to her community

How would these parents feel if their child really gets cancer?

I heard on our local news station that she even convinced her daughter that she had cancer!!! Can you imagine??!! That's worst than swindling money from strangers!

Yes that happened not too far from where I live. She shaved the little girl's hair and gave her sleeping pills and told her she slept through her drs. appointments. she gave her herbs and told her that was her chemo. SICK SICK SICK SICK Poor little girl, my heart just aches for her.

:(

Those who have survived cancer don't wish the disease on anyone and find it disgusting that anyone would want to "fake" the disease...

Glad the little girl is outta that house-

That woman made that little girl believe she really had cancer??!

You know, I really want to hurt people like that.
