Woman Dies After Riding Mission: Space

In a written statement, the Walt Disney World Resort said a 49-year-old woman died Wednesday after riding “Mission: Space” at Epcot.

The woman became ill after she got off the ride Tuesday afternoon. She was taken to Celebration Hospital.

“We have closed the attraction to reconfirm proper operation of the ride,” the statement read. “The state Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection was notified and will be on site to monitor the inspection and review of the attraction.”

The statement expressed condolences to the woman’s family. Walt Disney World has not released the woman’s name or what caused her death.

Shame about the lady, but perhaps worrying for Disney that this is the second such incident on the ride, in not that long a time space.
Ive been on the ride, and I have to say it didnt seem that bad to me, an interesting effect, but hardly a white-knuckle ride.


The newspaper article stated that the 4 year old did not meet the 44 inch height requirement. I wonder if that makes Disney liable for allowing him on in the first place.

This really isn't going to do the ride's press any good - we all know how the media love to hype things up to rediculous levels.

Disney are not having any luck with this ride.

Must admit have been on twice, and felt a little queasy afterwards.

Martyn rode that ride when we last went, and he was bad afterwards,sick etc.....and he usually is fine on rides.....

I feel for the family, it is worrying to hear it happen again...

I have just read that a 49 year old woman was taken ill after riding mission space on tuesday. She died wednesday in hospital. The ride has been closed for inspection. They do not know the cause of death at the moment

Hi

Its very sad, but I think she had an underlying heart condition to be honest. I have ridden it many times last year and at first it makes you feel disorientated but thats about it.

I thought I read after the autopsy the boy did meet the height requirements? If not yes its disneys fault for not checking, but the parents should take some repsonsibility. I always check Casey's height first.

I thought I read that he met the requirements. A few other news places said he did. Looks like a typo

Apparently they say now he didnt meet the restrictions. I think its definately a typo error

makes me so adamant that Callum is NEVER going on this (he has a heart murmur which whilst not serious on a daily basis could be a possible factor in a death like this)

I did not enjoy this ride and could not see what all the fuss was about but did feel ill for about an hour after it. I would not go on again as was not pleasurable. My DD12 and DH loves this ride. I do feel nervous when they go on it but seem fine afterwards.

I wonder if Disney will change the ride now this has happened?

They have spent a lot of money on this ride. They must be ver unsure on what to do next.

I have just read that the woman had severe and long standing high blood pressure and died from a bleed inside the brain.
