I got back last week from DLR. This was our first trip. It was me, DH, DD(6) and DS (1). We've done WDW (me a few times and I consider it my home park). WOC being unique,
I wanted to see the show. Knowing my DD, she is all about the rides and will never wait for a good seat for a show or fireworks, I figured the only way I’m going to see it is with the dessert party since you’re guaranteed a seat without the wait.

It is super expensive and I actually was on the fence about it and almost cancelled but I’m glad that I did it. The holiday version of WOC, keep in mind this is the only version I’ve seen but I’ve heard that the current version before the holiday iteration was not a fan favorite, was actually pretty good. We all enjoyed watching the lights and the water and the music it really was a great experience even after everyone was tired at the end of the night.

The actual dessert however honestly are kind of meh. The group of desserts that are on the plate are all over the place and seem like a random array of desserts. I have heard other people complain that there are not just standard desserts like cupcakes or cheesecake offered and I would say that those I would have preferred to the offering or at least make it feel more cohesive. All the desserts tasted fine just nothing special. The cheese however was really good as was the bread and the fruit. Since we had three people in my party, and everyone gets the same plate, I requested that one of the plates be just fruit and cheese and they honored my request. I also called the reservation line a few days before and made the request which they said would be emailed but I asked when we sat down about it. If it wasn’t possible it would not have been a big deal but I figured I would ask because three plates of the same desserts would have been a bit much. This way we all shared the fruits, cheeses, and desserts. The plate (I should have taken a picture) had blackberries, grapes, strawberries, and the same cheeses that come on the dessert plate but I believe I got a few extra pieces. DD didn’t eat any of her desserts but ate mostly from my fruit and cheese plate. If I were ever to do this again, I would request fruit and cheese only for the whole party but honestly for the price I probably will not do it again.

The alcoholic drinks are watered down so nothing special in that regard but the light up cups, for 12 and under, are great and are synced to the show. They even gave a cup to my DS who was only 1 and therefore not a paying member of the party which was nice. We now have two cups that both of them like to play with.

Overall, I am glad that I went the show is great but I would say that you are really paying for the seats and the convenience of not waiting. We arrived at 8:50 for our 9pm seating. There was a line and people were waiting but we were not the last ones in line but it did not matter since there are seats for all and it seems that they have more high tops than low tables. We ended up with a high top and a great view of everything so I would say waiting in line before 9pm, since they don’t check anyone in early, is not necessary. Honestly you could show up at 9pm and avoid waiting for those extra minutes while they let people in. It was a good show and a pleasant experience. The cheese was delicious so overall even with the high amount that they charge, it was worth it as a one time splurge because I know there was no other way I would get to see the show.

I did this on Saturday. I agree with there being no point in waiting in line early. The blue drink was supposed to have vodka, but it didn't taste or feel like it did. I downed 2 of them pretty quick and am a total lightweight. I think they must have just put a tiny splash of alcohol just to say that they did.

The cheese and breadsticks were the best part to me. I rarely eat chocolate and did enjoy the chocolate cake. I didn't eat any of the other desserts because I was sugared out from the blue drinks. I did taste the cheesecake and didn't like it. Overall, I am glad I did the party because it is the only way I'd every watch the show. I don't enjoy crowds and waiting for a long time to stand and watch a show, so this was a nice way to view it. I haven't watched any other version and liked the show. It isn't something I'd ever stand around to wait to see, though. I'm glad we went and may or may not go again, but I'm in no hurry to do it again. As you said, it is very expensive for what it is, but to do it once to enjoy sitting and viewing was worth it to me.

There were some seats behind us and I asked what those were for and was told that was VIP viewing. My server said that the VIPs used to have to stand and they were always asking the dessert party servers to serve them and get them seats, which they cannot do. Apparently, it is a relief to the WOC servers that the VIP guests can sit down now. I couldn't imagine paying a few thousand dollars for VIP and not having a seat.

100 percent agree with your review. It is exactly what I would say. Like you, I was very close to cancelling. So glad I didn't. My family really loved sitting there and feeling like they were living in the lap of luxury. It is a really small price to pay for that feeling of stepping away from the cattle herd at Disneyland for a short while. Your idea of getting one plate without dessert is brilliant. I am not a huge dessert fan either. But the gingerbread man cookie was quite good! I have done the party now. Definitely no point in waiting in line at all but it is hard to convince people of that. To add to your brilliant no dessert plate idea, I will add, hang around after. Until the walkways are completely empty. Its awesome walking out of DCA without a crowd and we ended up standing in DCA watching the DL fireworks with like 100 other people in the park. One of the janitorial staff was leaning on a trashcan and winked and said, "you just discovered the best kept secret in the park." And now I blew it because I told all of you.

I am not sure I will ever do WoC without doing the Dessert Party now. It is hard for me to stand for 2 hours to view the show, so was worth the $80 to me. The drinks & desserts were great, as they served as my dinner that night.

We did this Sat night and the seats were worth it. I wouldn't do it every visit, maybe just when they have a new show, but it's a must for children and short people. We had high top tables with short tables in front of us (didn't obscure). The fruit was just grapes. The desserts were a little disappointing in flavor choices, not universally appealing. The cheesecake was eggnog flavored (we don't like eggnog) and there was a coconut mickey shaped cookie thing (don't like coconut).

I would agree about short people and kids. I'm 5' 2" and there's no way I would get good viewing other than long waits and I don't want to get wet either by standing in the front. I would do it again, maybe if there was a new show. I don't think we had the eggnog cheesecake last week but maybe I just couldn't tell haha. There was some mousse thing that maybe was cheesecake it tasted a bit weird though.

Yeah I'm thinking for my MIL this will be a once in a lifetime visit so she's gonna do it!:rotfl:

This is the first I've seen about the blue drink not really having any alcohol in it. I had champagne so I didn't try it myself last month, maybe I just didn't notice the reports? I'm also wondering if maybe they had an off night with this night's batch?

That could be the case, as I was there this past Saturday, too. I had two drinks, and I am not much of a drinker, and pretty much tasted no alcohol, nor felt like I had even had a drink.

I have tickets to the dessert party this Saturday, the 17th. The time listed is 8:15PM but the show is at 9 - are you saying that if we show up at 8:15 we'll be waiting in line until close to 9? Would love more time for rides!

No my party started at 9pm for a 9:45 pm WOC show people were lined up much earlier than 9. I'm not sure about other people's experiences with getting into the party but they didn't start seating or checking people in until it was 9pm so for your dessert party they would start checking people in at 8:15pm. It's likely that people will start lining up for yours around 7:30 or 7:45 or something but you don't really have to since there will be tables for everyone.

You don't need to wait in line. We got to ours probably 5 minutes before our check in time and there was line. No biggie. They started checking people in at 8:15 and even though I was far back in line, I still had a choice of a high or low table. There were many people who came after the 8:15 time and they were all properly seated and served.

There is a designated podium with a lit sign that tells you where to check in. The sign will say "World of Color Dessert Party." It is almost directly across from the entrance to the LM ride.
