I got back last week from DLR. This was our first trip. It was me, DH, DD(6) and DS (1). We've done WDW (me a few times and I consider it my home park). WOC being unique,
I wanted to see the show. Knowing my DD, she is all about the rides and will never wait for a good seat for a show or fireworks, I figured the only way I’m going to see it is with the dessert party since you’re guaranteed a seat without the wait.
It is super expensive and I actually was on the fence about it and almost cancelled but I’m glad that I did it. The holiday version of WOC, keep in mind this is the only version I’ve seen but I’ve heard that the current version before the holiday iteration was not a fan favorite, was actually pretty good. We all enjoyed watching the lights and the water and the music it really was a great experience even after everyone was tired at the end of the night.
The actual dessert however honestly are kind of meh. The group of desserts that are on the plate are all over the place and seem like a random array of desserts. I have heard other people complain that there are not just standard desserts like cupcakes or cheesecake offered and I would say that those I would have preferred to the offering or at least make it feel more cohesive. All the desserts tasted fine just nothing special. The cheese however was really good as was the bread and the fruit. Since we had three people in my party, and everyone gets the same plate, I requested that one of the plates be just fruit and cheese and they honored my request. I also called the reservation line a few days before and made the request which they said would be emailed but I asked when we sat down about it. If it wasn’t possible it would not have been a big deal but I figured I would ask because three plates of the same desserts would have been a bit much. This way we all shared the fruits, cheeses, and desserts. The plate (I should have taken a picture) had blackberries, grapes, strawberries, and the same cheeses that come on the dessert plate but I believe I got a few extra pieces. DD didn’t eat any of her desserts but ate mostly from my fruit and cheese plate. If I were ever to do this again, I would request fruit and cheese only for the whole party but honestly for the price I probably will not do it again.
The alcoholic drinks are watered down so nothing special in that regard but the light up cups, for 12 and under, are great and are synced to the show. They even gave a cup to my DS who was only 1 and therefore not a paying member of the party which was nice. We now have two cups that both of them like to play with.
Overall, I am glad that I went the show is great but I would say that you are really paying for the seats and the convenience of not waiting. We arrived at 8:50 for our 9pm seating. There was a line and people were waiting but we were not the last ones in line but it did not matter since there are seats for all and it seems that they have more high tops than low tables. We ended up with a high top and a great view of everything so I would say waiting in line before 9pm, since they don’t check anyone in early, is not necessary. Honestly you could show up at 9pm and avoid waiting for those extra minutes while they let people in. It was a good show and a pleasant experience. The cheese was delicious so overall even with the high amount that they charge, it was worth it as a one time splurge because I know there was no other way I would get to see the show.
