WOC and GRR FPs Distributed in Parallel

There have been questions about GRR FP distribution since WOC opened and officially offered a third show at 11:15PM. On July 28 I stopped in to try and get GRR FPs at 1PM - I did not know if the GRR FPs would be offered or only the WOC FPs - but I went in hope of getting GRR FPs. :) GRR FPs were being offered in parallel to the WOC FPs at 1PM. I had left my camera with DW and did not get a photo at 1PM but when we came back at 2PM to use our FPs I snapped the photo below which looked much the same.

At 1PM I asked the CMs at the FP machines when they had turned on the GRR FP distribution at they said "about 15 minutes ago" which would have been 12:45PM that day.

The GRR FP area has six FP machines. They put a rope down the middle and fed WOC FPs thru the three machines on the left (machine numbers 1, 2 and 3). The line for WOC FPs was behind the GRR FP machines - between the FP machines and the lockers farther back. The few people standing in line at the far left of the photo are in line for WOC FPs. At 2PM there was almost no line to get WOC FPs. Same thing as when I got WOC FPs two days later at 2PM. I got yellow section 11:15PM show.

The three FP machines on the right (numbers 4, 5 and 6) gave out GRR FPs and the line of people in my photo in the right foreground were for GRR FPs.

Note that the CMs at the left in the red vests are WOC CMs - not GRR CMs. You cannot see any GRR CMs in the photo but they would be to the right. I do not think they know that much about each other. They know about their own FPs and they of course know that the distribution goes on in parallel, but they are like two different rides.

Getting GRR FPs is much as it ever was - just insert your park passes. For WOC FPs the WOC CMs take your park tickets from you and insert them for you and then hand everything back to you - presumably to speed up distribution during the mega-line that forms in the morning for the 9PM show.

And for the record, the WOC FPs are not linked to the other FPs at DCA. So one could get both WOC and GRR FPs at the same time if one so desired. :teacher:

Excellent information with a visual aid. What more could we ask for?:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info. Now if they would just open up the GRR ones a little earlier. Hasn't been so bad on the days when it's been overcast but when the sun is out the standby line gets very long, very fast. Which is why DD10 and I use the Single Rider line. :goodvibes

Is GRR FP linked to the rest of the park? I remember in the past it was not hooked in which is why we thought they were using GRR for WOC. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance!

Sunday they were not yet issuing grr fp when we left around 1 or 1:15.

Today we left around 3:15 and they were- return time was 4:50. I'm sure they started much earlier I just don't know when.

But I was there last week and the GRR FPs are linked to the other FPs at DCA.

I got a FP for Soarin', and then a few minutes later when I tried to get a FP for GRR the GRR FP ticket was black and said something like "not a valid fastpass" (because I already held a FP for Soarin').

:earsboy:

Thanks S. S. Columbia- "the GRR FPs are linked to the other FPs at DCA"-that is what I wanted to know. I knew the WOC fastpasses are independent but I was hoping that we could still get 2 others like in the "olden days."

The line for the WOC FPs can be longer than it looks.

Here's a link to a Google map that shows how the WOC FP line goes about 350 feet -- from the left side of the GRR FP machines, past some waterfalls, past the GRR loading area, then making a U-turn just before GRR's "up ramp" and going back to the left side (exit) of the GRR FP machines:

And here are a few photos that I took while waiting in line for WOC FPs (FWIW):

Sorry, my bad. Disney has made it confusing using the GRR FP machines for WOC and I misread. Your question is a good one because it sounds like you know that GRR FPs were unlinked for many years. Now they are linked. :)

No worries Hydroguy! It is confusing, especially for those who haven't been or are trying to figure out world of color stuff too. Hopefully our posts will help someone else too. So right now the only ride FP that stands alone (ie.not connected to the rest) is Roger Rabbit?

Personally, I am dreading WOC but thankfully so many people (including you!) have posted hints, tips and pics that I feel pretty confident we can do it without too much trouble. Since we are staying at GCH, we can get in early to get FP and we also have ressies for Ariels so we'll see what we want to do when we get there.

Plus just when I finally figured out where we line up for the show depending on our color or dining, I read that they changed that again and not for the better?

Thanks for the pics Columbia! No way could I stand to wait in that line so I best get my butt up early if I want to get a FP through GCH (or get DH to run over from DL.)

Yes, RR FPs are the only ones that remain disconnected. We used them ourselves last week. That is of course not counting the WOC FPs which is not the same thing. :)

Are you doing AG for a 9PM or 10:15PM? The 9PM was nothing to dread at all if you get there early enough. It was a relatively pleasant experience and the standing was not too bad because we got to sit for a long time too. The crowds in the preferred area were not bad either.

Doing WOC with regular or picnic FPs and young kids - that is something I would be more concerned about because of crowd control and blocked views. It is harder to get to a good spot and you need to be even more strategic.

Either I missed something or you misunderstood SS Columbia. I am not aware they changed anything on this. What specifically are you referring to?

Here’s my WOC experience from last Tuesday (July 27). I got in line for WOC FPs at 9:50am, and I waited 25 minutes to get WOC FPs. For the 9:00pm show, we got in line at 6:52pm and we watched the show at the front rail in the red Wet Zone -- I think that’s a great viewing spot. I wrote about it in the following link.

SSC and I had some PMs and we watched from the exact same spot as he did. It was a very good spot as I discussed in my WOC Review.

Does this mean I can get WoC FPs and another FP for a different ride, but not anymore after getting those two FPs?

Like, for example, I get WoC FPs, then I get Soarin' FPs, can I get another FP for Screamin'?

Sorry, but I don't look around the Disneyland forum much, so the information is a bit unclear to me… :D

It means you cannot get a Screamin FP after Soarin for 2 hours max or 45 minutes minimum. It says on your FP when you can get another FP. :)

Just to pass along another bit of FP information (I don't know if it's been posted before, but it caught me by surprise). If you want to get a later time FP there is the possibility of trading FP with another guest.

Last Friday I got FP for the 10:15 pm showing, but wanted the 11:15 pm showing. The CM said to come back when the machines started distributing 11:15 pm FP and they would assist in trading. Essentially, find the CM at the exit to the FP area, tell them how many tickets you have and then they ask every person leaving their party number and if it matches, they ask if they would be interested in trading.

I was surprised by the number of people trying to trade times (I only saw people trading 10:15 pm for 11:15 pm).
