I leave on the 25th and have booked a woods view. In preperation for sending my room request, I thought the otter pond sounded cool. The questions that I have are:

1) Is that view within a "Woods View"?
2) Are there real otters in the pond?
3) If so, what are the best floors to see the otters?
4) What part of the hotel is the pond located at?

Thanks!

Ironically, a fellow cast member told me she saw an otter on the north side of the resort in the pond located there. She stated she saw it just about 2 weeks ago. I don't know if this is the actual location the the pond you are referring. But if it is, it is on the north side of the resort near Roaring Fork. Any floor would be adequate. However, the first 2-3 may be best. I believe it would be considered woods view, however, I would call and inquire because there is a pond there. Simply ask about the "otter pond" and see what results you get...

I requested a view of the otter pond and had a room on the third floor directly above the pond. There were about 5 otters at that time and also turtles. It was kindof a swampy pond, though. Not real picturesque. At night, there is nothing to look at because it is PITCH dark. You can see the castle way off in the distance, however. The noises at night were very strange-not sure what kindof bugs or animals make those noises. We enjoyed the otters during the day, but wish we had something to look at at night when we are in the room more. It is on the side of Roaring Forks, but if you request a room over the pond, that should be sufficient-it is considered a woods view room.

Last August we stayed in room 5030 (woodview room) which was directly over the otter pond. We almost could see the castle from our balcony but had to stretch our necks a bit too far left (the room to the west had a great view of the castle). We could see the monorial though. This was the north side, one wing down from the standard wing that overlooks the service area and comes out over WCC. When you come off the elevators from this area Whispering Winds is right out to the right.

Unfortunately during our entire stay we did not see any otters...and I spent a lot of time looking for them:( ...although I must say we did hear them at night and as pnelson said there are some interesting noises going on at night out there. Kinda a cross between barking and chirping:hyper:

I would request a room further down the end of the hall next time because we were right by the elevator and there was A LOT of noise at night when families would come off of the elevators and yell down the hall (luckily my dd sleeps through all types of noise, unfortunately I don't)...but I did ask for a castle view and that's what I almost got.
