My mom is going on her first ever Disney vacation with us and we are trying to figure out where to stay. Right now, with no discounts for the last week of Oct. its about $600 difference between POR and WL (woods view).

I don't care to pay the extra money if it will make our trip more enjoyable! My big concerns are transportation, we are spending 2 days at MK, 1 day at Epcot, and 1 day at Hollywoods studios (i think that's the new name or MGM as I've always known it), and DTD for a night.

Does anyone have an opinon between these two? I just would love to give her a magical vacation and her two big favs are "southern gone with the wind" and northwest themed cabin looks, so I am completely torn on the hotels.

At the WL, will the boats being running after Mickey's halloween party?

Well between the two.......WL may have more amenaties than POR since it is considered a deluxe. The other bonus is that it is a quik boat ride to MK......I stayed at POR once, I found it very nice and honestly I have never stayed at the WL.

Thanks for your input!

My favorite theme is the mansions of the South, and I can tell you that at no point in our trip did I ever get that feeling. Perhaps I was expecting too much, with all the posters who are gaga over POR.

I hate hate cabin/wilderness themeing, but we stayed at WL last summer cuz DH wanted to. That resort is fabulous. It wilderness theme isn't too over the top, I loved the arts and crafts/mission style decor. So far that is my favorite resort (although I'll never tell that to DH :lmao: )

For only $600 difference I would make the switch in a heartbeat. Your mother will be in awe over the lobbby. The WL gives such a better first impression than any moderate ever can. :goodvibes

Wilderness Lodge..fabulous resort..and I will tell you that when my mother comes one of the things she actually enjoys most is the lobby. It's just an important part of a vacation to her. She enjoys sitting and doing some people watching in the lobby. The resort is more a "hotel" than a motel". The water launch to the MK is especially lovely. Last year, my husband and I would just take the launch over to walk a bit on Main Street and do some shopping, it was that convenient. The WL also will offer you a balcony which is something the moderates don't offer. This is especially important to me, as I enjoy having my morning coffee outside while waiting for everyone else to get ready. Just little perks like that make a spectaculor resort even better!;)

i guess i am talked into WL! I liked the dining options there better anyways...
