I just read a thread from someone else and this is what it said....

It is truly a beautiful building, and I would rank it as the best hotel I've ever stayed at (not just in Disney, but anywhere). My absolute favorite thing about it is the feeling of seclusion. The building is situated so that you hardly see any other part of Disney World- from the beach all you see is wild growth on the oposite shore. I love being able to lounge in a beach chair and stair off into the woods. It is a peaceful feeling.

Now I'm concerned about my choice. We have ressie's for WL for May, but last year we stayed at the Poly. Above, the OP wrote that the building is situated so that you hardly see any other part of Disney World..., but when we were at the Poly last year, I loved walking on the beach and looking over at the beautiful GF and also the CR, not to mention the castle!!! We live out in the country in NC and we see just regular wood views every day!! Should I change my ressie??? Is it too late???? We got a woodsview room at WL for $165/night. Please help!!!! :worried:

mickeyluv,

First I would agree with the quote you used about the WL, it is truly an amazing Hotel. It is both secluded, yet close to the Magic Kingdom. When I mean secluded, you feel as if you are in the North West because you do not see other hotels around you. Oh and by the way I too am going there in May.

Enough though about the WL, the question you need to ask yourself is what makes you happy, what do you enjoy about the Poly and what you read about the WL, and which one out weighs the other. I personally think both are Great Hotels, but unlike you who enjoyed seeing the GF from the Poly's beach, I think it takes away a little from the theme concept as you do not get the total feel of the South Pacific as you can view the Turn of the Century Florida Theme. I have stayed at all three and love them all for their own differences. YOu must pick the one that makes you the happiness.

We just got back from there. I agree with the OP, it was beautiful. We liked it a lot more than the Poly (which we liked a lot). I think it's fancier and classier.

The fact that we got bunk beds was huge so we got a bed to ourselves instead of sharing with the kids. Also, the health club is really nice. I don't think there is one at the Poly.

I also like the fast food joint a lot better than the one at the Poly. The choices and quality seemed much better. If you eat breakfast there every day that may be an issue.

I also agree that it felt isolated. We liked it, but if that's not what you are looking for you should change. The big caveat is that I doubt you'll get the same price for the Poly.

Mickeyluv, if you are at home right now and get the Travel Channel, at 11AM est (about 30 minutes from now) WL is featured on Great Hotels. We love the WL. WE stayed there in October, then moved to the Poly. My family actually didn't care for the Poly, don't really know why, it surprised me. DD9 actually was given a choice for her June birthday trip, Poly, GF again (trip there in 3 weeks) WL or YC. Surprisingly she chose the WL :)

Maybe a water view at the WL would suit you better. We LOVE the WL and our last trip we had the perfect room .It was right off the main lobby and looked directly over the pool and at the lake. It water parade came right by there. We truly love leaving the parks and going back to relax there.
All three food options are good and qiute varied!

Thanks to everyone so far. I really appreciate your comments. I am going to watch the Travel Channel at 11:00. Maybe that will help me also!!! More comments would be greatly appreciated also!! :flower:

Mickeyluv, I agree about the water view. We had a courtyard view last trip, room 6039. It's inner courtyard, be sure to ask for that. I could look off our balcony and see the pool, really neat by the way, the Electric water pagent each night and the geyser erupting every hour. Email me and I can attach a picture taken from our balcony of the pool and lake.

Hi! I live in the country in NC too and believe me you won't be disappointed in the WL! The boat ride over to MK is beautiful and the lake is so peaceful. Moss drapes over the trees as you walk back to the hotel from the boat dock. It's gorgeous and very relaxing. Then there's the lobby!! Not too many hotels that have a lobby like WL. The giant fireplace with the rocking chairs in front of it just sets a relaxing stage. I think you'll love this place.

Just remember these are all opinions and you know your likes and dislikes better than anyone.

I'm sorry to say, we just returned 3/6 from 9 nights @ WL and didn't care for this hotel at all! All we kept thinking was that we wished we were at POR or CSR instead! It cost us an additional $1000.00 to stay here and we were so disappointed, sorry to say. The lobby is lovely, the food court is terrible, the pool area is nice, but noisy and too small for the number of guests.

We had a great view from our room - 4155 (overlooking the main pool and lake). But still and all, we would not want to stay here again with other far superior choices available. Namely for us, the moderates. We find POR or CSR especially, give you so much more for your money. We like to use the food courts for some quick meals throughout our trip, and found the one at WL to be horrible. The choices were dismal everyday and freshness to be a problem. 2 times my husband found a bread pack with moldy bread in it! This is a deluxe? I don't know, but we found our last stay at POFQ so much nicer and I must say this shocks me. We could hear our neighbors very clearly and their kids were very noisy on the balcony every morning at 6am. We are really easy going, but I hated the fact I could hear someone walking down the hallway and speaking in the room next to us. We never had this problem at the mods? Also, be aware, the rooms are ready for rehab. The carpets in the halls are stained and worn looking. The room carpets the same. Our maid never really cleaned super well, considering our POFQ stay where the room was spotless every time we returned. I did request turndown service for our entire stay and this was very nice. You must call to request this, they did forget 2 x's but then I called again and it was done the balance of our trip. This was probably the best part of our experience other than sitting in the lobby. Now I must say the service was wonderful. Everyone was very gracious and helpful. This is a very big plus. But then again, I find this to be the case at any Disney resort I've stayed at anyway?

We ate at Artists Point, we found it extremely expensive for the meal presented. Especially didn't care for the bright lights for fine dining. I thought this was strange. The meal was OK, but not outstanding for the $150.00 price tag for 2.

I guess I was expecting so much from reading these boards, and it just didn't measure up in my humble opinion. We really feel for your money, the mods are so much more of a good deal. I would have loved to have the extra $1000.00 for spending around the parks and even adding on a 3 day cruise instead! I think we've finished staying at deluxes with Disney, for us using our AP for a $79.00 mod is a much better way to spend your money.

FYI - the Poly was insane the night we stopped there. The lounge area was so crowded with people waiting to eat at O'Hana's with 2-3 hour waits!

I would pick a more out of the way hotel - maybe AKL or Yacht/Beach - it seemed much more relaxed over at these resorts. *This is if you really want a deluxe

Good luck!

There are a few rooms, that do have views of the castle.... maybe someone else here can help with that, but I think WL is the best example of what Walt wanted.... He wanted you to feel like you were away on a journey... that is why you have to take the boat or monorail to get to MK. WL gives us that feeling of being away.

It is a personal choice, and only you can make it, but check out the WL FAQ site here on the boards to get more info.

Thanks to everyone for posting! I just watched the Travel Channel special on the WL and I am satisfied with were we are staying for this trip. I called WDTC just to inquire about a water view room versus a woods view, but they did not have any water view rooms left, so I am going to keep our reservation woods view and maybe ask for an upgrade upon check in?? Not sure if I should do that or not. But in any case, I will not know if we are actually going to like it unless we try it, so we are going to keep it and have a wonderful time!! If we don't like it, then next trip we'll know where not to stay, right? Thanks again for all of your comments. I greatly appreciate them all!!! :flower:
