My terrible day at work:mad: has pushed me over the edge on whether to schedule a trip in early June (6/7 - 6/13/03):bounce: . We have been debating the trip based upon budget but I now feel what the heck. We have almost enough saved now and I'm sure we'll find the rest before we go. My only major decision left is do we stay at WL (stayed Dec 01) or AKL (never been there). These two resorts because of the bunk beds for our two DD (6 & 12). We loved WL but thought about something different. My biggest concern with AKL is food because DD (6) is diabetic and DD (12) is very picky. I heard the food at AKL has African theme and I'm not sure the girls will eat well there. Please give me your insights and opinons?

Why not try something new?

I'm sure AKL will do whatever they can to work with your diabetic eating concerns.

Not all of the food is African themed. You can get the usual WDW food-pizza, soup, salads, yogurt, fruit, chicken.

You might even do better at AKL with the food because they have the buffet at Boma and may be more likely to have something low-sugar or sugar free and you could always ask if they could have something on the buffet that fits the above.

AKL will wow you.

You'll have a good time at either.

What kind of room are you thinking of staying in?

You have to try AKL. It's our favorite hotel!!! We stayed there for the first time in October and LOVED it!!! We loved it so much that we are taking our entire family there in December.

Hi there. Hope I can make your day a bit brighter. I absolutely LOVE WL. That being said, I feel that the AKL has many more options food wise for a diabetic. I have had so many great choices at Boma as they have many salads and fruit. While there are also many african flair things, you can see what you are getting, sample a bite and then go fillyour plate with what you like. You are not ordering a full plate of something you might hate. I am a diabetic and love the options at AKL. We stay at WL and go to AKL for some meals. You might just love the AKL for something different if your kids would enjoy seeing the animals. Hope tomorrow is a better day.........There's a great big beautiful tomorrow.just a day away..........

When making a PS regardless of where you are at WDW let them know about your diabetic daughter so that they can prepare something special if needed. I have heard many stories about people getting sugar free desserts and the like by telling the restaurant ahead of time.

I am so sorry you have had a rough day. But what a great way to make it better than to plan your next trip!

I LOVE AKL. So, I say give it a try.

:) Thanks for your input. Today is a better day. I guess I justed needed the thought of some Disney magic to brighten my spirits. My DW & DD's plan to decide this weekend. The only other thing is DD (12) really wants to do the water mice since she can now drive one of the boats.

Hi

We LOVED the Wilderness Lodge and (sorry to all the major AKL fans) HATED our stay at The Animal Kingdom Lodge.

When we visited AKL we thought that the CM's were some of the most un-friendly that we had ever encountered during a WDW trip. The concierge staff always seemed 'too busy' to help with any questions or queries and the check-in staff were very stressed out.

We also thought that the transportation was REDICULOUS (although hopefully this was only a one-off). We had to wait ages for buses and in the end got so fed up of waiting for the WDW Resort buses that we just took our hire car the the Disney parks (we usually only use it when visiting Universal/Sea World/Busch etc. - as we NORMALLY find the disney transportation extremely good.) But as I said - this may have just been a one-off.

My only other complaint was that the lobby was always so noisy and busy.
However, the resort itself was nice and well-themed and the savannah added a lovely touch.

Anyway this is just my opinion - you may go there and have a lovely stay :)

But We LOVED our stay at The WL last December - The transportation was fantastic, the CM's were brilliant and the concierge was great. The swimming pool and general resort theming is also better at The WL IMHO. We couldn't fault WL in anyway at all.

Have a great trip! :)

Richard.
