Sorry about all of the WL questions! I'm trying to decide if it's definitely the resort I want to book this time. Here's the story... My 5 year old really loves the look of the All Stars. We stayed there once, but he was too little to remember it. He just thinks they look like a lot of fun to his 5 year old eyes. However, my spouse and I would rather stay at a moderate or a deluxe. Really leaning towards WL. Do kids love it there as well as the adults? I've never been there in person, so I'm trying to get a feel for the atmosphere. What would a 5 year old boy love about it? (Thanks in advance for answering! You guys are so knowledgeable and friendly!! I love these boards!)

My DD ( 6 on Wednesday ) LOVES the Lodge. She thinks the slide is the best and loves to take the boat to MK.
The Cubs Den in the afternoon (2:30 - 4:00) has Arts and Crafts w/ parental supervision and her favorite place to eat is Whispering Caynon Cafe ( no everytime someone in the family need ketchup, she calls "Ketccccccccccccccccccccccc-UPPpppppppppp"
She loves to sit by the fire, but mostly because we don't have those here in sunny S Florida!
I think it would be a great resort for the family!!

PS...There are watermice too that you can rent and run around Bay Lake in...Boys LOVE that!

Our (now 5) DD has loved the Lodge for years. So does our (almost 3) DS. The bridge over the spring in the lobby, the pools, the hot tubs, the water slide, the guyser, the boat to the MK..........they love it all. There are also lots of activities if you are at the resort during the day.

My DS loves the WL, he was 8 last time we went, but still wants to go back. He also loved the Poly, He was 6 when we went the first time and he would go back there again. My DH loved the WL also. That would be the only place he would stay if he had his way. It is so nice to be able to boat to MK.

My DD5 thinks that is the only place we are supposed to stay.:D As mentioned, the arts and craft time is great and she looks forward to that each day. They really do some neat things, not just simple things. Also, the watermice are a big hit. They also have bikes for rent or I guess you could bring your own and ride the trails over to and around FW. The playground is out on a beach area, although you can't go into the water, there is plenty of sand and you know how much kids love sand. My DD also loves all the tracks in the walkways and we try to figure out which animal came through there. I don't think you can go wrong with WL.

My 4.5 yo dd LOVED WL. She especially loved the kiddie pool.
Lot's to do for kids!

Plus, you are so close to FW & there are 2 boats plus a nature trail to take you there. (You can rent bikes if you don't want to walk.) FW is great fun for kids, little petting zoo, pony rides, Trail End, etc.

All of my nephews and neices love the Wilderness Lodge...when we are at the Parks and I ask "O.K. what does everyone want to do next?" They all say, "Lets go back to the Lodge." They also love renting the bikes and racing to Ft. Wilderness and back again.

I now have 3 DS's, so I'm sort of an expert in terms of what boys like... LOL!!!! Anyway, my oldest and middle DS have been to WL several times when they were 6 and under and really enjoyed the feeling of the resort, as well as all the cool things it offers. It's also fun to be so close to MK -- and to be able to take the boat ride there. I feel very confident that your DS would enjoy WL much more than the AS hotels (as would you and DH). While it's fun to look at the AS icons for a while, what really makes a great vacation is having the amenities that a resort offers -- a beautiful pool with a slide (that the AS hotels don't have), the recreational opportunities mentioned by previous posters, the convenience of having MK so close by, etc... And the theming is really incredible! It's like staying in a huge Lincoln Logs fort!!! The AS hotels are truly motels with big icons... The rooms are tiny and the pools very standard fare -- nothing like the WL. And at WL you could also request a room with a bunkbed so your DS could sleep in one of those, too!! :)

Anyway, have a great time planning -- I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip with him and DH!!

Take care,
Sarah

We stayed there last year with DS4 and DS 7 and they loved it. They loved the slide in the pool. They loved the bunkbeds. And they loved the Whispering Canyon Cafe - which is wierd since they don't usually profess strong opinions on restaurants. It was also nice and close to MK. The boat ride was fun and relaxing too. DH was totally in love with WL too, and he doesn't usually get ga-ga over resorts. We can't wait to go back. You'll have a great time!
