Hi! We are going to WL on Thursday!!! Anyway, my sister has been diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff, and cannot lay in bed for very long. She is waiting to have surgery until after we get back, but I'm worried she will be miserable. Is there a fairly comfortable chair in the room, or maybe could we "borrow" from somewhere if she finds she cannot sleep at all?

When we were there in Dec., the only chairs in the room were two straight-backed wooden ones next to the table/desk.

There weren't any comfortable chairs at the WL. You might try calling the Special Requests Department and see if they have anything like that they can bring to the room. Their phone number is 407-939-7807. If they don't have one, there is probably an outside DME (Durable Medical Equipment)vendor where she can rent one.

Also check out the Disabilities Board, the group over there might be better able to answer that question.

When I had a torn rotator cuff (had it for at least nine months before I had surgery), I hugged a pillow every night to sleep. Get a good squishy pillow, put it under your armpit and hug it. You can sleep on your side more easily. Not as good as it will be after it's repaired, but not too bad. Sometimes I used two pillows to prop it up and keep it from dropping down.

Thank you everyone - Deb- did you have trouble with it locking up if you slept "too" good? She is afraid to take enough pain medicine to get a good night's sleep because she feels the need to move every few minutes.

I didn't even have any pain medication for those months. It wasn't until I had an MRI (because I was whining so much to my doctor) that he discovered the tear and bone spurs. Sleeping was not so great, but once I got it repaired and didn't have to sleep with the sling on any more (I had to do that for about two weeks after surgery), I slept like a baby.

Is her's frozen? I didn't have a frozen shoulder, so I was lucky about that.

Make sure she gets the pain pouch. It lasts about two days and I took two pain pills after surgery and that was all I took. Mine was done as an outpatient and I slept in a chair for the first two nights after surgery until it was just too uncomfortable and I was tired. I never really had much pain at all, even during physical therapy afterwards.

I slept on my side, with the pillow under my arm with my arm resting on the pillow. I didn't sleep on my other side (lying on the bad shoulder) for nearly five or six months before.

I know there are medical supply companies that will deliver a chair..the type that electricaly reclines to your room. I wish I remembered the name. There was no charge for delivery, as they deal with the Disney resorts all the time. I had looked into this for my dad, as he has trouble laying flat in a regular bed. They had the same type of chair he used at home. The front desk at the WL gave me the name of the company they use. They were actually very reasonable from what I remember. You could call the hotel directly and ask..I'm sure they'd be able to help you out. I believe there is also a disabilities board that could probably help you out also.
