We have always wanted to stay at WL, but just haven't gotten there yet. On our last trip, DH said "we have to stay here next time. Make it happen." So, we're looking to make a trip in October or November and the refurb is happening. I can't decide if it's crazy to book at WL with construction going on or if I'll be sad that, yet again, we haven't gotten our chance to stay there. Would you chance it?

I was just there from 04/09-04/16.... the construction had little impact on our stay- we were in a one bedroom suite in the villas... I say do it.

The challenge will be that the impact of construction can change from day to day, week to week. It's nearly impossible to predict the impact of refurb in 6 months. The cabin construction may be significant by then; given that they've not especially started pool rebuild, that's another big question mark. They should be opening the new DVC wing by this fall, if timelines from when they did the Jambo House conversion repeat themselves.

Refurbishment has variable effects on different people. Some aren't affected, others really can't stand it.

We are among those that do NOT like to stay during a refurb. We often stay in a resort based upon the theme and atmosphere. We like peace and quiet at our resort.
We find that jackhammers, construction crews, construction walls, machinery, noise, and reduced amenities significantly reduce our enjoyment of any resort. The last time we stayed at a resort undergoing 'minor refurbishment' we could not use our balcony from about 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. we decided to try to stay with it as we were in the YC CL in what would normally be an awesome room. HOWEVER, We go back to the room midday to rest and we like to sleep in. NOT possible at the YC on that visit. The final straw was waking up to find a man working on our balcony (we had the patio doors open) as we tried to sleep. We went to the CL CM's and asked to be moved. We decided then and there, never again!

You don't know how much it will affect you until you get there. Yes, you can move, but I prefer to move elsewhere before it has caused me distress for part of my vacation. There are lots of other great resorts in WDW.

JMHO, of course. YMMV.

We were there in December & stayed at the end of the far wing by the beach. The construction wasn't even noticeable except that you couldn't walk over to the beach area. We weren't in the room a ton of time, but it was perfectly fine when we were there. It is a great resort. They also gave us some special construction pins for staying there during the construction.

Was there last week and never felt the impact of construction. Visually we saw it at certain vantage points but the noises were minimal.

i had this exact experience in December! Love WL and would say go for it!

If you read the WL thread, and the construction thread, you can see specifically what things are impacted and happening. We have decided to go in June- it was only $38 more total on the summer discount than our POR Royal Room on the earlier discount. The amenities that are closed are ones we don't care about. We will be at the parks during the time of day of active construction. And, the part we're most excited about, the resort is only operating at half capacity, so less crowded pool, busses, and food court.

We are going the last week of October. Based on what others have said, I feel fairly confident the construction won't bother us.

Close to our dates (4-20 4-27). Same room type & location. We had a bird's eye view of ALL the construction.... and actually ENJOYED the view.
We noted the starting CONSTRUCTION of the new Restaurant, the re-roofing of the SOUTH end of the Villas, and the total GUTTING of the southern wing of the WL proper (they were tearing out walls & duct work) :).

But there was little noise. We even took a nap one day around 2-5 due to a long night resolving a bad cat sitter situation. And we were about 50 yards from the action :).

I agree about the noise level- I was sick the last couple days of our trip and napped with no problem all day that Friday- and when I'm sick I'm super cranky so if there was noise, I would have noticed! I was thankful to have the suite too- my boyfriend was able to watch the baseball game in the room and I wasn't disturbed at all- I will have a one bedroom suite next trip as well... well played Disney! LOL
