Has anyone done this at WL. Is it a kids club? Does anyone have any info?

Honestly I feel horribly guilty even considering this. DD is 4 and goes to daycare so she would probably get along fine but what do you think? There are so many crazies is it safe? How much does it cost?

I would love a little time with DH we're going for 9 days but not sure about this...

Honest question how can you leave her with complete strangers in a strange place. Is a dinner that important instead of the safty of your 4 year old? Vacation is all about family if you can't be your DD for 9 days. That is just sad to me.

The kids club at WL is called the Cubs Den. We stay at WL often and stopped by to see it one day. My kids are dying to try it out. There is a big screen TV, DVD, VCR, games, activities, puzzles, crafts and a bunch of other kids. I wouldn't plan on leaving them for long, perhaps only long enough for a dinner one night.

I think that the poster above really was unfair in her comments. Vacation is for the family, and even mom and dad are entitled to a bit of time alone. While I wouldn't leave the kids there for a full day (and why would I if we're at WDW?) but for one dinner, why not?

I'm assuming since your dd is in daycare, you're a working mom too. My younger son (5 in July) is a full time daycare kid and my older son (now 9) was too. I also felt bad when we vacationed and thought about putting them in a kid club (after all, I didn't see them all day during the week) but then I realized that many of these kids clubs are designed to entertain and the kids love them (they are not just holding places until you come back). If you read the stories on the cruise board, you'll see so many kids want to go to the clubs to hang with kids their age, do activities, see movies, have fun.

I think that the price is something like $10/hour but you can check when you get to the hotel. Maybe stop by the den, take a look, ask dd if she thinks she might like to try it one evening while you and dad have dinner. If so, then go ahead. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty for wanting an evening with your husband.

Janets Thank you for your comment.

It seems that the previous poster has no couth. He/she obviously has no idea what families may be up to.

What if DH and I have no family in the area where we live and I was constantly at the mercy of strangers to take care of her?! At least at WDW there is more than just a good chance that it is a completely safe environment.

Why is it so wrong to even consider? Obviously, based on what I wrote I am extremely hesitant to try this.

I wonder Hollyb, are you a working mom? Have you saved for 4 years for this trip? How old are your children?

I agree with the babysitting idea. When I was young and we would go to HHI, my parents always took my brother and I to their babysitting service one time during the trip. We always got to play games and had activities with other kids by the pool where we could show off for other guests and we got prizes from the gift shop. We were never left for more than 2 hrs but it was a nice kids/parents break.

I think I've seen at WL where the club does similar things, where they allow the kids to play and have activities by the pool and I doubt your child will miss you and I'm sure they have a pretty efficient system of contacting parents should something happen. I just wish that was a part of the College Program b/c I'm an education major that would LOVE to spend a semester at WDW working with the babysitting program. But go for it, I'm sure your DD will have an awesome time!!

Hollyb is a slash and burn poster. She drops in, says outrageous things, then flees, never to defend her outlandish posts.

Babysitting at WDW is about as safe as you are going to get, particularly in a group setting.

If you want to test fly it, you could eat at Artists Point at the Wilderness Lodge. You'd be right there to check on her.....

We use Fairy Godmothers, and this is what we did the first time. Now, we use FG everytime we go to WDW, but DS, 5, likes to get a good nights sleep, not be in the kids club until late.

We haven't used the kids clubs yet because ds just turned 4, which is the minimum age the child must be to utilize this service (plus they must be p/t'd), but I have thought about it for future trips.

Personally I think if the parents/adults want to go out for dinner and not have to cater to the children for a couple of hours while on vaction there is nothing wrong w/using these services, whether it be FG, Kids Night Out (WDW recommended service), or one of the WDW kids clubs.

The Child Care FAQ at Allearsnet.com has more info about the kids clubs:

hth!

WL is our favorite lodge. If you would like a nice quite dinner alone, there is a great resturant called Artist Point there. The child club, we have not used ,but checked it out a few years ago when Ds was younger. It was small , but cheery and very inviting. They had lots of arts and craft items and I think they said they took them to the arcade which is right near the child care center. We gave DS a choice and he decided to go with us but I really felt ok about the place. It is just steps away from Artist Point if you want a wonderful dinner but want to stay near by .I was never confortable with using an in- room sitter but this is a group setting and they really seem to have thier act together.

Have a nice trip.
