I saw a recent thread in which someone had posted a photo of a snake they saw at Wilderness Lodge. Does anyone else have photos of animals they saw there? We're going to visit WL one morning to hike around the "wilderness" and my son wants to know what he might encounter.

Thanks!

we've stayed at the WL a few times, but never seen anything.....

on the other hand, years ago when we camped at fort wilderness we saw an armadillo.....now that was a sight...i'd never seen one before...

we've also seen snakes at Blizzard Beach and just outside of Animal Kingdom...
and then of course there's the regular things....like rabbits and squirrels...
but since we live overseas, where there are no squirrels, my kids go all crazy every time they see one...

You can't actually see them in this pic, but a couple of otters live in this little pond.

It's located on the side of the resort closest to the boat docks. I was lucky enough to have a patio that walked right out to that area!

We were at the Villas at WL a few weeks ago. Every night, a little green frog would hop across our sliding glass door, find a spot, and sit there while we fell asleep. We had a beautiful red cardnial come into our room when we left the door open for a few minutes. It only came in a few feet, then left as soon as we walked towards it. We also saw a small snake slither off the sidewalk as we go off the bus and headed into the lodge.

We also stayed in this area. We were on the second floor right over the otter pond in May. If we got up early enough (around 6:30 AM), we could see three and sometimes four otters playing. During the day when the otters weren't out we could sit on the balcony and watch all different kinds of birds "fishing". I think this was one of my kids' favorite part of our vacation!

We stayed on the first floor overlooking the otter pond in April. No problems with the ducks being aggressive, but we were awakened one morning by a duck quacking quite loudly at our sliding glass door. I think he wanted to come in! We were able to see the otters in the morning and lots of birds ducks and bunnies. You can also go over to Fort Wilderness. There are peakocks lizards and bunnies all around.

Can someone tell me what Fort Wilderness is? Is it a part of WL, the campground, or something else?

Thanks!

Fort Wilderness is the campground. There is a path running between it and the Wilderness Lodge if you want to walk or there is a boat that will take you over.

That sounds neat!

I found a pic of the peacock.

Several years ago, while driving into WL we saw a family of deer!

In May we saw lots of birds including ducks, peacock, and various waterfowl, rabbits (from our balcony overlooking the boat dock), lizards (little chameleon-type things) and, on the walking trail to the campground, a couple of deer. They were right at the beginning of the trail, right about dusk, and we followed them as they stayed on the trail. They would go around a curve and be out of sight, then when we came around the curve they would be standing watching for us and take off again. We followed them for quite a ways before it started getting dark and we turned around.
