Wk Of Sept 15 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Oh Bill now it is on!!!!! I am not sure if it is safe to post here my take on the differences between CFL football and NFL football that will be a discussion for ToT weekend.:headache: Actually my biggest complaint with NFL football is there is no creativity,(IMHO please don't all yell at me) the players are much too big and the field is much to small for anything big to ever happen.

Don't worry Kim, I won't let anyone yell at you, they will be to busy beating the crap out of Robert and I for cheering for the Cowboys. I guess I could cheer for the Montreal Mongooses also.

Bill we promise not to comment on you having a posture like a jumbo shrimp during the ToT. We are there for you brother.

You ever get a song stuck in your head? Don't cha hate that.

It's a small world after all.

Knock three times.

Supercalafragilistic expealigosus.

Chick a Boom, Chick a Boom, Don't you just love it. Don't you love it, don't you love it don't you just love it.

Stuff like that.

DAve:hippie:

I guess I could cheer for the Montreal Mongooses also.

Nice try Dave. But we're talking the CFL here. No wimpy names in the CFL. Montreal is not the Mongooses, they are the tough and rugged:

Alouette, gentille Alouette
Alouette je te plumerai.

I've got your back Kim.

The only team I dislike more the the Montreal Allouettes is the Hamilton Ticats. But that is more because I am a true blue Toronto Maple Leafs fan and you have to hate the Habs...it is law:goodvibes

Nope no really cool names in the CFL....

Denny – Yes it was in MB! Nice and flat. I guess that is why I could easily do 20+ MPH for most of the time! Well that and DRAFTING! ;)

Dana – Lets do Boston! If I ever get a 3:45 marathon, that is my qualifying time!:cool1:

Meghan – Good luck on the training!:cool1: Glad you are doing well!

Jen in GA – Technically, you are supposed to increase distance 1st then speed. But, I think (as long as you do it slowly) you can do both.
On TM!I used to run at a 5 on the TM…then I gradually pushed it up to a 5.5…6….6.5…7…7.5…8. I would start out at the comfortable speed then during a fun song, push the pace…then recover while running at the slower pace then push.
You can also do this on the road. It is called Fartleks…He He!:lmao: Run fast to a certain point then recover at a comfortable pace then do it again.
You are correct in that you will run shorter distances faster. For example, I run a 5k around 7:30 pace. Whereas my ½ marathon pace is 8:40. My WDW marathon pace this past year was right under 9 mpm(until mile 20). So you can see the difference. Hope this helps.

Leana – Great race and Girl! You look HOT in your pics! LOVE THEM!

Nepatfan – Ha Ha! I see children and teens. :goodvibes I do work with the families too though. YES I have 3000 cals to burn! I did loose 2 lbs though…trying to get it back on.

No training today. I have done something to my ankle.:confused3 I blame laundry!:laundy: So I am trying to rest it as much as I can so I will be able to do my LR this weekend. I am not worried though. I am ahead of schedule for training. So I can cut a few LRs. But I really am going nuts from the taper last week and now not doing anything today.
What do you guys think? The ankle hurts at the back (like on the tendon)and only when I have it flexed. I have no idea why. I did not role it or anything. Just started randomly hurting last night.

Dana – Lets do Boston! If I ever get a 3:45 marathon, that is my qualifying time!:cool1:

Christa - I'll tell you what.... you're on. If I get my 3:40 to qualify I will happily join you there!!

I just got done with my 4 mile run for this week. I was gonna do 3 today and 4 on Thursday, but decided to take Thursday as my easy day before my LR (actually it's a step back week so only 10 miles) on Friday. With my hip feeling a little tight I wanted to do quite a few easy/short days in a row before I start ramping back up next week. I did my 4 miles today in 31:15 (avg 7:48 mpm). Here's my splits:

1. 8:00
2. 7:50
3. 8:18
4. 7:09

I was running a little faster pace, but then DS2 who is having a major cling to mommy type of day started having a melt down, so for the last mile I set the mph at 8.5 and ran for dear life just trying to finish the 4th mile!! I hope everyone has had a wonderful day... I am off to get dinner from Dominoes!!

Take Care,
Dana

The beauty is/was you probably could have hit Jimmy Johnson square in the head and I don't think his hair would have moved. Of course, that just might be my hair envy talking.

Ain't it the truth! I'd love to have stock in whatever company makes his hair spray!:)

Thanks ironz! I know I'll finish the tri one of these years!

Cam - There was definitely a medal at the Distance Run. It looked cool, too. Had the name of the race with a background of the Liberty Bell, IIRC.

Robert - our only hope is that we somewhat repeat the year 2003. We started off 0-2 there and ended up going to the NFC title game.

Christa - congrats on your ride! Great job!

Hello all!,

Still resting my nagging (L) calf/achilles, but trying to stay current on the thread. :scared:

Jen: here's to your "green" calendar entries.

Judy: Nice effort on the treadmill. Do you watch movies (I do) or listen to music while on the "mill"?

Kim: PD :wizard: for the shinsplints.

Martha: Nice 10 mi. on Sunday. You are very fortunate to have the opportunity to run with your DH :) ; I'm the lone runner in my family, so it's always a solo effort.

Leana: Great photos! What do you do, travel with your own photographer? :rotfl2:

Bill (NEPatsfan): I hope the back spasms subside. Take solace in the 2-0 record of our beloved Patriots. :thumbsup2

Cam: Great job on the 8 miler!

Renee: PD :wizard: for resolution of the hip pain. I also XT on the bike (road bike for me); do you road bike, mountain bike, and for for how long/or how many minutes?

Vicki: Nice effort on the run; especially after starting your workout routine.

Ironz: Nice job on the 6-miler! I know you said it was under 6 miles, but I'm rounding up! ;)

Sorry if I missed anyone! Happy training to all!

Did I hear snow???!!! :scared1:

I also am out of any football conversations. I will never understand that sport!

Dana & Christa - work on that qualifying you guys! I'd love to cheer you two (and any other WISHers) on in Boston!

That Philly race sounds fun, I might have to do that next year...

Ok, the only xt I did today invloved the fan club presale for my beloved Goo Goo Dolls playing in Vegas for NYE. It sold out in one minute, but I was able to get the three tix I needed. I have a killer refresh button finger! :rotfl: Now, I need a killer eBay-ing finger to get all the $$$ I need to pull this off! ;)

Take care everyone - and even when I don't have time to respond to everyone, I am reading & you all keep me from totally falling off the band wagon. Thank you! :goodvibes

My treadmill is here! My treadmill is here!

This thing is going to change my life! It was so easy to feed and play with the kids and then go train when my DH eventually made it home from work. I hate dragging the kids to the gym or waiting until DH gets home and then rushing over there before it closes.

Did I mention that the only place we could put the treadmill was in our bedroom? It is going to be pretty tough to blow off a training day when I have to stare at that thing anytime I am in bed.

So I managed 3 miles at r1/w3 and it took me 41:24. I'm bummed because I've lost so much speed and endurance while I have been recovering, but I am trying to remember that last February I couldn't run for more than 30 sec and I was running at a much slower pace.

Jackie-You promised Annie a trip to Indy this year, right? Are you ordering your tickets through the official site (that's what we do)? Let me know if you need seating suggestions. Oh, are you planning to camp or try to get a hotel room? You might want to make reservations now if you haven't already. I usually camp and can give you suggestions for some good locations if you need them.

Cam-Are you going to follow the walk/run or run/walk MfM plan? I'm only training for the 1/2 (no full marathons until my kids are much older), but I am interested in your plan. You are good inspiration for the day when I can consider doing a full.

Meghan – Glad to hear that you’re back in action! That’s so cool that your coworkers are going to run the mini-marathon. All the folks I work with think that I’m crazy for wanting to run at all, much less train for any races!

Helen – Good luck on the race this weekend! You’ll do great!

Bill – Good job on getting your training in! I’m ready for this heat to END already.

Leana – Snow? Already?? Yikes! I love your photos – thanks for sharing!

Jen in GA – Yay for green marks on the calendar!!

Ironz – Great job on the 6 miles (hey, 5.9 is close enough)!

Christa – No idea on the ankle, but I hope it gets to feeling better. :wizard:

SilverSteve – Rest that calf and ankle and feel better soon! :wizard:

DH and I got out and did 1.67 miles tonight. Along the way we encountered a couple of neighborhood cats, a tiny little snake (who was being hunted by one of the cats), and four frogs. It was a nature walk! :rotfl:

Meghan -- Congratulations on your TM!!!! I am so excited for you! Sort of along the same lines as you, I keep my purple exercise ball in my bedroom and it stares me right in the face if I try to get in bed with a good book or go to sleep without doing my crunches & pushups!

Cam-Are you going to follow the walk/run or run/walk MfM plan? I'm only training for the 1/2 (no full marathons until my kids are much older), but I am interested in your plan. You are good inspiration for the day when I can consider doing a full.

Frankly, if I were following either, it would be walk/run, but right now, I am just trying to put in the steps at whatever pace and for whatever distance I can squeeze in. Work and personal life are all-consuming right now and I MUST make time to calendar the training plan. All hopes of getting in the routine of a core strengthening class 2 nights/week (25 minutes each class) are dwindling with an ever-increasing workload. So, the reality is that I am hoping to do walk/run at the event, but may not be able to adhere to the training plan for that. I will be so interested in, and supportive of, and inspired by you as you put your TM to great use and do the training thing the right way. :goodvibes:

Dana & Christa - work on that qualifying you guys! I'd love to cheer you two (and any other WISHers) on in Boston!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Boston is only a dream! My best marathon time is 4:12 and to get almost 30 minutes off a marathon time is not easy! Heck, to get 5 minutes off a marathon time is hard. I may be able to do 15 miles at 8:30s/8:40s, but a full marathon!:rotfl: I would have to do 8:30 each mile to get my Bosotn qualifying time of 3:45.:scared1: Just don't know if the old body can handle that.

Ankle feeling a little better, but will try not to run/bike today so it will be strong for Friday's LR.:yay:

Meghan - WTG on the treadmill. I NEED a bike trainer so I can train indoors and watch TV!:goodvibes

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick post since I am actually caught up with this training thread. Just for this week, I haven't been able to read much for the last month. My apologies to all that have needed support and congratulations to all that have been having a good time of it.

My training is going OK. That's the one thing I am being adamant about sticking to. Well that and feeding the kids. The whole clean clothes to wear is taking a hit. Can someone come do laundry at my house?

My LR this week was 14. The first 4 were torturous, but I tried to stop thinking about how miserable I was and started day dreaming about our trip to Disney and the miles just started flying by.

Heather: Congrats on the impending new addition.

Judy: I'm glad to see you are back on your feet. Good job training in the sideways rain.

SWDave: Sorry about the loss of your mother.

Meghan: Congrats on the treadmill. As much as I despise running on mine, I'm so glad I have it.

Kristi: Congrats on your GGD tix.

I'm sorry that's all I have time for now. Best Wishes to all I've missed.

Cindy

Greetings all -

Or should I say "Aye Mateys!" pirate:

No training as it was a rest day. For whatever reason, probably because it hates me, my foot is killing me right where the break was during surgery. :headache:

SilverSteve - Absolutely! We have a TV and DVD player right in front of the TM. That's the only way I can get thru a New York winter and still train. I take DVDs out of the library every week. Even the librarians know when I'm training for an event! I hope your calf and Achilles are getting better. :wizard:

Kristi - YAY! Well, at least your refresh finger got some XT. :lmao:

Meghan - Congratulations on the new TM! It certainly will make things easier. :thumbsup2

Cindy - Don't fret over the little things like laundry and housework now. As long as everyone is fed and no one is bleeding profusely. :rolleyes1

Gosh I can't believe its already Wednesday and I haven't gotten a chance to really catch up on all the posts. Another case of WTO - but I have been able to get back into training. For some reason its getting harder and harder - since I had like a 3 week hiatus in training it feels like I have gone back to square one with my training (well not really but....) I am getting slower and slower on my runs because I am having to walk more often. Its not my breathing that is slowing me down this time but its my legs - my knees are starting to bother me. Years ago I had tendonitis in my knees and that is what it feels like but that was when I did NO exercise. I am going to have to work more on stretching and strengthening.

I am getting the training in though - 4 miles on Saturday and 3 miles yesterday (at a little over 40 mins - UGH!!!!) I am planning on doing 2 miles of speedwork today as on my schedule I have a 2 mile run or 30 mins of cross training.

Sorry for the drive by and only posting about myself - I feel bad

Ahoy, maties! pirate: (It is international talk like a pirate day!)

I FINALLY had a good run!   I did 4 miles in 36:22 and here are my splits (approximate since I don't have a garmin):

mile 1 : 9:13
mile 2 : 9:18
mile 3 : 9:17
mile 4 : 8:34

I know I'm still eating Dana's and Christa's but for me that is really smokin! My hip was fine (maybe the extra strength tylenol ahead of time helped) and it was all good. I was definitely sucking wind at the end, but after seeing my times I know why!

The last mile I was thinking about (and praying for) a friend whose college age daughter is in court today filing a restraining order on an ex-boyfriend. As soon as I finished she called my cell and so I talked to her instead of doing my sprints, but that's okay. That had to be my priority today.

Renee: PD :wizard: for resolution of the hip pain. I also XT on the bike (road bike for me); do you road bike, mountain bike, and for for how long/or how many minutes?
Steve - I'm a wimp and bike on a stationary at the Y. I've been watching women's world cup which is fun to do. I typically try to go at a pretty intense pace for 40 minutes. My friend is trying to talk me into getting a road bike so I can go out with her, but that ain't gonna happen this year with our 2 trips to WDW for ToT and marathon ... I would like to get into it in the future.

Happy training, all!
Renee

Haven't been able to keep up much this week, but felt compelled to drop in and WISH my favorite crew of pirates and pirate-lovers a happy Talk Like A Pirate Day! So, all you scurvy curs, swabbies, wenches, and even landlubbers, be sure ye hit the rum, or the road, or both, hoist up your jolly rogers, and party like a pirate! You mangy scallawags have a good one.

Arrrrgh!
