Wk Of Sept 1 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Kathy -- please give Lynne a huge good luck hug from the Keeners! :grouphug:

Great to see everyone posting here. Look at all those awesome race results and the great workouts everyone is getting in! :woohoo: It is really nice to see some familiar-but-recently-missed faces here, too! :cloud9:

Sending pixiedust: to all our WISHers battling illness, injury, failing AC or stonkers!!!

We had such a wonderful time meeting Nancy and Norm on Saturday morning. We gabbed and gabbed about WISH and DVC and Disney in general and they were kind enough to share all sorts of tips about Food & Wine. I am so glad they made time to meet us! And I am hoping we didn't bore them to death!

I only have one workout to report and that was a squeezed in 60 minutes at the gym Saturday morning; I got up at 5:25 to get there - -how do you people do that? Okay, I remember now that I did some of those early mornings last year during marathon training. I am just so out of the groove now! Anyway, I did 4 miles on the TM in 55:56 which is right around 14:00 miles, I think.
I've still been doing crunches & pushups and have added some leg work with resistance bands in the hopes of strengthening and preventing any hamstring/hip issues.

I have a doctor's appt tonight to finally get the order for bloodwork my cardiologist suggested in May before releasing me from his care. I'll probably mention the hip issue to the doctor since he was right on target with the sacroiliac stuff when I was having that problem.

Well, back to work for me. It is crazy at work and also at home with the start of our kitchen demolition scheduled for the 10th and the craziness of a new school year at a new school and marching band schedule for DS14. I am looking forward to being here more often as I get into a marathon training routine. WISH me luck! ;)

Hey everyone!

WTG Lynne!:cool1:

Dave - good to see you back!

Angie - :wizard: :wizard: for your back!

WTG on everyone doing LRs!

Quick update on my WOs!
Did 20 Saturday on the bike. Started raining and really windy so quit and did not get in my 35.:headache:
Ran 6 Sunday
Rested Monday...well and traveled.
Today I did around 4

Friday (Sept 7th) I turn in the rest of the $$ I have collected for the MS century ride. I don't have to turn that in...it goes straight to the MS Society. I am SO excited and scared!!!!!:scared: The ride is the 15th. Thank you for everyone who donated here online. I really feel like I have made a difference! Send me lots of :wizard: :wizard: b/c I really hope I can do this. I guess I am kinda tapering right now...even though I have a 14 mile LR this weekend. But, I will take pics and post them, with a race report on my blog!

Wow--had good pacing today for my training run--just no motivation. Didn't get to it until almost lunchtime,. Might have had something to do with certain beverages I consumed on labor day.:rolleyes1

35 minutes, 3/2, 2.85 TM Miles, 12.28 pace (almost as fast as last weeks "speed" training---and though I was increasing the speed with each interval, I wasn't doing a speed training per se--so not too bad!)

Baby is fussing so I will have to catch up later.

It's been 6 months since I've been on the board. Actually, it's been 6 months since running more than 1/4 mile. Now I'm ready to get back out there (physically & mentally). As there is no way for me to get caught up on everyone...I'll just say you've been in my thoughts and I've missed my Team mates lots. While I won't be headed back to WDW in 2008, I've got the training plan out so I can join you in 2009.

Oliver Wendell Holmes said, "Greatness is not in where you stand, but in what direction we are moving." So remember....keep moving forward!

Hi everyone :)

It was soooo humid here and hot here today. I waited until later in the evening and it was like a fog of humidity surrounded me while I walked.

But..... I did it :cool1:

Still trying to be careful so I don't get hurt again. I was sore but not bad.

Wishing you all happy training :wizard:

Just a quicky...I did my first run with DH tonight, 3 miles in 39:24 for a 13:08 overall pace. We did R3/W2...he's waaaay faster than me. I felt bad for slowing him down so much, but it was really nice to have company. I'm starting to be really scared of this full marathon training. Are they serious about 4 runs a week :scared1: ?

Martha...which higdon plan are you using? I'm working on the Novice 1 plan.

Cam...congrats on your TM run! Hope the labwork and hip stuff turn out ok!

Suzy...don't think I congratulated you on graduating!

Lisa...congrats on your TM run, too!

Welcome back to all of you that we haven't seen in awhile. Glad you're joining us for the ride!

Hi, CJ,nice to see you here! can't wait until you can re-join your teammates at WDW in 2009!

I had my doctor's appointment tonight and am going for a bunch of bloodwork. My doctor is amazing. He was just going on and on about where I am today, fitness (and weight) wise compared to a few years ago. It was just what I needed. He was concerned that my pulse is "sluggish" and when I asked if that meant it was slow and good (like an athlete ;) ), he said that is not the same thing as "sluggish" but certainly it is better than when my "resting" heart rate was 175. I am hoping the bloodwork might provide some information as to why I have been feeling so wiped out. All the women on my mom's side are anemic (though I am not sure that kind of thing is hereditary), so it may be as simple as needing some vitamins or something.

So, anyway, I decided to take another night off and made huge amounts of lasagna to freeze for during our kitchen construction. Andrew and Howard both had it for dinner and seemed very happy with my failure to get to the gym tonight! :lmao: I think once I get my training onto a calendar, I will feel compelled to stick to the plan. Right now, it seems so easy to use work and school (Howard's and Andrew's), etc. as an excuse. Not good!

Hey gang! Short report, for the Moon is sleeeepy. 6 easy miles last night, didn't even bring my clock to gauge my time, and 4 trail miles today - full of me dodging rocks and roots left and right and only barely avoiding biting the dirt on multiple occasions. Wouldn't ya know it, a pesky tree branch finally caught me right when I came within sight of the end of the 4th mile? Down I went! I''m not too much the worse for wear, but have been picking leaves and twigs out of my clothes and hair for most of the evening.

Happy trails, everyone :lmao:

Cam - Hope everything turns out ok w/bloodwork.:wizard:

Mel - Nah, I didn't get tagged.:sad2: The quote under the sponsor flag is one I put there. I'm still waiting for the tag fairy.

CJ - nice to see you back.

I did 35 minutes on the elliptical machine tonight. According to HH's walk the half plan I was scheduled for 35 minutes easy walk. Got home too late to walk outside so I did the elliptical machine instead.

For all you med. people out there, I need some info. I have to have an echo-cardiagram done next week. I've had fluid on my ankles that I can't seem to get rid of. At first I thought is was due to the achilles surgery, but it just didn't go away and it's in both legs. My family doc said this is just a precaution, to see if the fluid is due to a heart problem :scared1: or just something with the veins in my legs.

I'm not in pain at all. I don't feel any problems other than I seem to be tired more. But I attribute that to working 2 jobs and dealing with some stressful family issues.

My foot doc also said there was some edema in my shin area, although i don't see/feel any swelling there. He thought family doc was doing test to look for DVT's. It's just above my ankle (where the sneaker ends.) When I take my shoes off is when the ankle swelling is most noticeable.

After all that, my question is, what will the echo show? What exactly does it look for? Nothing like a little panicking to get the blood flowing.

Terri

Hello Wish teammates, NEW and OLD!! :wave2:
As Sunny would say, I am being a poser by posting..:sad2: Last week I got on the TM and lasted for 15 minutes before I had to quit. A NEW pain in the foot..gaaagggghhhh!! I had already been resting the foot to give it lots of time to get ready for training since CDC..so BIG disappointment. I determined that I would not wait this out, and I made an appt. immediately. So, I'm at the podiatrist today and I'm describing where the pain is..he puts his thumb near where I was pointing and pressed..After I came down from the ceiling,:scared1: I said.."Yes, that's it.." (On top of the foot just below the bony protrusion we call the ankle bone).
Another cortisone shot..it's from rolling my foot to alleviate the pain in the heel when I was doing the CDC..bruuuhhh..ther... :furious:
I did ask him if this was the end of my walking career. He said absolutely not. I then asked if I was going to be coming in for monthly cortisone shots. He told me he only gives each area three..that's it.. So, hopefully, this will smooth things out and I can get to training. He did say no "race" walking (his term, WWDave, not mine!) for 3 days, so..I think I'll do the elliptical on Thursday and Leslie Sasone on Friday. Then maybe try to go out for a piddly 2 miles on Saturday..
Mel , so glad the endoscopy didn't show anything life threatening, but know you are still frustrated with not knowing what's going on. pixiedust: for you! Glad you had a great run tonight!
Judy, so proud of you for getting out there. That was an awesome training run after surgery, kiddo!! :thumbsup2
Cam, REALLY glad to hear that your doctor had the appropriate comments about your weight loss!! I still remember the doctor jerk who was not so kind. Your training will catch up, don't worry. Maybe you'll be spending alot of time at the gym just to avoid coming home to the kitchen demolish! It will be like us..we're a mess when we start our training/weight loss, then look how fabulous we are now!
Christa, Fantastic job!! Here you go for now..there'll be more on the 15th!!:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Kristi, Great getting out there! I have to tell you..I couldn't figure out the significance to your new Johnny picture until I finally came across your explanation about him being a judge..;) Tell your Mom I hope we're going to get to see her again at ToT!! :)
Terri, OH, NO!!! Lots of pixiedust: !! Hopefully, it will be something simple, like cut back the salt? please? You've been through enough!!
OK, I can't respond to each poster..each and every one of you are an inspiration to me, though. Your lows give me hope, and your highs get me excited to get out there..Thanks!! :goodvibes Anne

Good Evening Team!

Cam - Need anyone to store some of that lasagna? I'll give you my address and you can FedEx it on over!

Mel - Glad you got a good run in with your hubby. I used the Novice 1 plan for my marathon in May and felt very well prepared. It also solves your cross-training problem because you do it the day after your LR.

Moon - Gotta watch out for those evil trees (like in Snow White, you know). Good job inspite of the branch whacking.

Kristi - I know Patsfan Bill gave you some classic examples of some fine country song lyrics, but I stumbled on a lovely, romantic song today (sorry, didn't catch the title or the artist). I'm paraphrasing:
I want to see you in the moonlight.
I want to take you to the sticks.
I want to walk you through a field of wildflowers.
I want to check you for ticks!

If that don't melt a woman's heart I don't know what will!

Today was DDs first day back to school. DW and I celebrated our re-found peace and quiet by going out for lunch and I had the juiciest cheeseburger. Yum!! Then we treated the girls to DQ with some friends after school. Sometime while I was in the van with unruly (sp?) DD4 it was decided that the kids should have more than ice cream for dinner (although I had no problem with the all dairy supper) so we headed over to a local pizza shop. Well, let me just say that if I knew pizza was for dessert I probably wouldn't have had the large Blizzard for the main course.

Anyway, Hal Higdon generally says that 1 mile of running burns about 100 calories. I figured I'd have to run about 60 miles tonight!!!!

I did get 8 in (maybe covered the french fries). Maybe I'll try for the other 52 miles in the morning.

A quick post here. I did get out for my 5 miles yesterday with an 11:54 pace. The humidity seemed a little lower, it took 1.5 miles to be completely drenched instead of the normal .75-1 mile. :lmao: There may be hope it cools off sometime.

All the talk of laundry last week brings me to this. I don't think Lynnda will let me fold and put away the cloths anymore. As I was putting my things in the closet, I happened to look at her side. Since I am usually asleep when I look at her side, I didn't notice that her main shelf was bending and twisting in odd shapes. I soon discover that all the stuff we put on top of the shelf caused all but 2 of the back supports to pull out. :scared1: So when she got home from the store, instead of finding everything nicely put away, the bed and floor had cloths stacked up on them. I don't think she was too amused. :rolleyes1 After putting in more supports I think my end is back to where it should be. Now she has the fun of putting the cloths back since I forgot to make notes of where I was pulling everything from. So I think I found a way to get out of part of the laundry detail. :rotfl2:

Great jobs to all who are getting out and completing their training. Hope everyone can recover quickly from their injuries. Terri, hope the doctor visit can give good results.

Bill

Hello, WISHers!

The forum was not the only thing that wasn't working this morning! I went out to do a 40 minute run and had to STOP after just 15 minutes! :scared1: I have never just stopped and gone back, but I did. My problem was back cramps, exactly like the ones I had during the half last year. (Deja vu nightmare!) I think that it's from getting tossed around a water slide on Monday; my neck is sore so it probably got to my back to. Anyway, rest and ice today instead of a run. I'm hoping it's better tomorrow.

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: But ol' Hal is wrong! Everything depends on weight...For me, 1 mile of running at an 8:30 MPM only burns 86 cals!:headache: But, someone who weighs more may burn up to 100 cals even at a slower pace!:sad2:

Renee - Hope the back feels better!:wizard:

Terri - Lots of :wizard: :wizard: to you too! Hope everything turns out OK!

Cam - WOW! A sluggish pulse! What in the world?!?!:confused3 I do think it is b/c you are a finely tuned athlete!

Ran 4 today with JRT. Ave pace 8:30.
OOOOH STOP THE PRESSES!
Listen to this!
The police found a dead body on the greenway I run/bike on. They found it b/c it was stinking! AHHHH! I was there Thursday biking. They do not know at this point if it was dumped there or killed there or the gender. Well they have not told the public yet anyway.:scared: Not sure what to do about this...I always felt kinda safe..well as safe as a female running alone can feel. But OUT OF CONTROL!

Christa - No fair - the greenways are supposed to be the safe places. But please be careful - I try to only run on ones where there are other people around (or at least that's what I tell DH so he doesn't panic!)

Cam - Hooray for the supportive doc. Hope the bloodwork is full of good news.

Anne
- I couldn't stop laughing at your post! We must have been crawling off the ceiling at the same time. I did the exact same thing at my podiatrist's office this morning - he asked "does it hurt here?" and I screamed. When he finished laughing he was able to tell me what was wrong...

I need lots of PD now. According to the podiatrist today, I have tendonitis in the posterior tibial tendon. I have an MRI scheduled for Monday to determine if it's torn, which he thinks it is based on my description of the shooting pain during my last LR. I have a walking boot for the next 3 weeks with instructions to do NOTHING until I see him again. After the MRI he'll know whether or not I'm doing the Raleigh half/full or not; we'll talk about Disney. I only cried in his office when he wasn't in there!

DH and I are going out for Mexican tonight - there WILL be margaritas! I just keep telling myself that plenty of you have done this too and are back training... I know if it weren't for this group there would be no way I could even think of continuing to run after this ordeal. I'd just give up now.

Jackie

OMG Christa! That is scary!

I know I've been slack in my posts. I have hurt my right foot and my right knee is now acting up. I ran yesterday morning and it hurt all day and night. It still feels sore today. I'm a tad worried cause RFTT is coming up and it was gonna be my first race! I took off today, but I really need to get two more runs in this week cause I didn't run over the holiday weekend. We'll see...

Christa - that is scary! Which reminds me, I need to get some pepper spray for walking into work in downtown Boston at 4am...

Mike - those lyrics were awesome! How romantic to be checked for ticks! :rotfl:

I did 2 miles on the track while Zack was at Sports Mania class.
12:07
12:07
24:15 I am nothing if not consistent!

Hope that helps! I am so sorry that the news was not good. Hopefully getting an accurate diagnosis means he'll be able to figure out how to get you back out there.

Getting injured is a big fear of mine. I really hope I get to see you at the Raleigh marathon!
