Wk Of Oct 7 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Christa - you do look the same before & after! Gosh, it's so unfair! ;)

Colleen
- more :wizard: for you. Keep questioning these doctors!

Martha - I am sending that eviction notice today! ;-)

I think my cold may finally be on it's way out - thank goodness! Tomorrow is my last LR before ToT.

And since everyone is picture happy this week, I have to post one of Zack from the wedding on Sunday. :goodvibes
(sorry it's so big!)
2kids_wedding.jpg

My my my, they do marry young in the northern states. Cute kids though.

I think gator is a robot, she is the terminator sent here to show us the way. "We have ways of making you do Disney Races".:scared1:

Martha, have you heard the story of how we aquired the chocolate lab? Erica had been wanting a lab. I told her if she got another dog I would leave her. On Valentines day I came home from work there was a chocolate lab puppy sitting in my recliner. She said "happy valentines day, I got you a puppy". Called my bluff on valentines day, now how do you recover from a blow to your macho side like that?

I went out for an easy 2.5 miles this morning. This is taper week for my 10K race this saturay. This is our biggest race of the year.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

A quick drive by - I managed to do 4 miles on the treadmill on Tuesday (had 5 scheduled but I felt like I was going to die - not really but...) so I decided to stop a mile short. Ended up getting outside yesterday after work and ended up doing 2.75 - walked the 1st mile, went up by the beach and then jogged home (I am realizing that I am very lucky that I live less than a mile from the beach) I guess the time wasnt bad (34 minutes - really took me more like 37 minutes but I had to wait for the bridge to go down both times - there and back so I took time off for that wait.) I just get frustrated because I feel like I am getting worse instead of better. All you guys with temps in the 50's and 40's are killing me!! Its still in the high 80's and our "cool" front that supposed to be moving through is not even going to do much but change the temp maybe 5 degrees - wow instead of 90 its going to be 85!!!

Coleen - Pixie dust to you and hopefully you can get a more favorable opinion from another dr. I would definately not pay attention to dr# 3.

All WISHer's with events this weekend GOOD LUCK - I will be out there Saturday morning doing a 5k in my hometown - kinda excited kinda nervous (my friend says it because its in Delray which is where I live and have lived all my life)

Dave Good luck on the 10k - had to personally wish you luck since you say that is your biggest race this year. I am sure you will do AWESOME!!!

Greetings all -

Three miles this morning, with a little tempo work thrown in just to stir things up a bit. :thumbsup2

Lisa - Super glue? Geez, why didn't I think of that weeks ago!!

Jen - We had a HD Gold Wing but it was just WAAAY too big. Besides, I would fall asleep on the back. We got rid of it and that is when I got my own. Besides, Charlie is so the sport bike type. ;)

Cindy - HA! L/RIDE! :lmao: I will tell him that! Ha ha ha! That's a good one. You resting up now? Getting ready??? You're going to do GREAT! I saw for myself how speedy you are!!

Villians Rock - A stunt rider? Oh please! Don't give Charlie any ideas! Hee hee.

Angie - Really?? You are IN?? YAY!!! :woohoo: To celebrate I will bring you some leaves! :lmao:

Jackie -Oh yes I remember very well being so happy to wear two shoes. Feels great, doesn't it!? :yay: Oh and YES that article made me mad too! Who is this idiot?! :headache:

Kristi - Hey I was thinking about and wondering how you were feeling. Wow, you had a great excuse not to train and you did anyway! Whoo hooo! :woohoo: Oh my gosh! What an adorable smile Zack has! What a little cutie. I know where he gets it from! ;)

Craig - Martha warned me not to post a picture on the Boards, but, well, I didn't listen. :rolleyes1 Oh you know you can come over anytime! We are not that far from you! You and Charlie can discuss it at ToT. I have a wimpy "girly" bike (which, next to the new one, looks even more wimpy!) but it suits me just fine. I much prefer sightseeing and checking out the neighbor's barns and horses and things rather then speeding about. And I have to say, Craig, if I were you, I'd keep the wife. :goodvibes

WWDave - You have a bone in your leg? :confused3 I've never heard that excuse before. :rotfl2:

Christa - It's Bike Week here at the DIS! :woohoo: Oh you look so cute! Hey, your bike is the same color as Charlie's! OK if I just rode a bike 100 miles picture #2 would be of me on a stretcher - and not just to meet the cute EMTs!

Colleen - Are any of those three doctors runner? :headache: I think you need to find one that is.

Leana - Whoa! BONUS! Helloooo! Thanks for posting THAT pic! Yummy!

Judy: STOP, STOP, STOP!! Do NOT give Calcio any ideas! He can NOT come over and play with the new toy. Ain't gonna happen, Calcio. Got it!?!! Hmmm???? Don't make me come over there!

WWDave: aw how cute! She sure knew how to get you! I'm sure it's been a wonderful ride with the pooch. Did you get to name it?

Leana: YUMMY!!!!! Nice eye candy.

Kristi1357: very nice picture! They are quite cute.

Villians Rock: is that you on the bike or someone you know? BTW--you are not helping me with Calcio ya know. You all have GOT to stop posting about motorcycles. I thought you all liked me! Waaaaaaa!!!

I must check in more often. Maybe I should become a monitor for this discussion thread so I can delete posts that include pictures or talk about motorcycles!! Not good, not good.

OK, am I the only one that doesn't see a difference?
Nope. I don't look that good even after a shower and a hour of primping. Gees.

Well, I ran my double yesterday. 8 miles in the morning and 5 more in the evening. My knees hurt when I started out in the evening but they eased up pretty quickly. I felt strong the whole time too.

This morning I ran another 5. I had planned to go slow but fall arrived in Atlanta this morning and the cool crisp air insisted I run fast. It felt wonderful. Everyone in my group had a good fast run. Ahhh, if it could feel like that at Disney!

Evidently the deer on my running trail were enjoying the cool weather too. We had at least 4 of them cross the trail right in front of us. Close enough to us that we had to either stop or slow down to avoid being run over. I have hit deer before and almost hit them many times but this was the first time a deer almost hit me.

Anyway, I think splitting up the mid-week long run might actually have a great deal of benefits. I wonder where I could find out if anyone has done any research on this. I think I want to do more Wednesday runs this way but I want to make sure I am not risking injury.

Cecilia

Hi All

Colleen--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Do you remember my Dr. Dumb-dumb? He was the top dog at Lahey Clinic's Sports & Ortho dept. He told me, "not everyone was meant to run a marathon" about six weeks before my first WDW marathon. He basically told me I couldn't do it. He was wrong:thumbsup2 (And my knee hasn't been an issue since).

Keep searching until you find a doctor who you believe in. Over the past 1.5 years of my spine nightmere I saw about a dozen specialists and NOT ONE told me about the spinal cord stimulator until I got to the Brigham & Women's Pain Clinic.

Speaking of my SCS, I had a tough time this weekend. I began to creep back to the dark place Angie mentioned. I lived there for far too long. I will not go back.

I'm loving all the picts! Keep 'em coming!

I should have something to post after Saturday...

BigVic-- Guess who we're going to see in person on Sat??????? Can ya guess?? Huh? Huh? Can ya???

Oh, all right... We're going to Muzi Chevorlet to see "our guy" Jeff Gordon in person:moped: (couldn't find the car). Supposedly we get to sit in his car.

An speaking of the Chicago Marathon, I added a new design to my cafepress that I think conveighs the right sentiment towards 26.2

Villians Rock: is that you on the bike or someone you know? BTW--you are not helping me with Calcio ya know. You all have GOT to stop posting about motorcycles. I thought you all liked me! Waaaaaaa!!!

Martha - It's my BF...he rides with a group called the Starboyz out of Akron, Ohio. He also rides with Bikestyles out of Cleveland. And sorry about the bike talk. I try to avoid it...but my BF is so darned cute that it's hard not to smile when I think of him doing his stunts. I'm so very proud of him.:lovestruc

Hey Team,

I cranked out a mid-week LR of 9 miles today in about 84 minutes. I was so not-motivated to do this run for various reasons (time - busy at work, and weather - dreary day). The good news is that I did it and it feels good to know I ran 9 miles when I really didn't feel like it.

Also, the weather here appears to finally be breaking and I think we will be getting the fall temps that we are used to in NJ. That should make it a lot easier to get the LR's in. I'll need them because I am still considering running the Philly marathon in November and I really need to kick out a 20-mile run sometime soon and I need some good weather.

Lou

Oh, no, I am doomed to NEVER catch up here!

Colleen -- I think we'll add that doctor to our "slap fest" victim's list, if you'd be so kind as to forward the names to me "in confidence". Can't wait to hear about the MRI.

Jackie -- woohoo!!! on the two shoes! Now, don't go trying to do too much, kiddo!! BTW, how is MB season going for you and yours? :)

Leana -- ooooo, nice . . . I hope he is as nice as he looks!!!

Cecilia -- hi!! Glad to see you survived the wild deer stampede. ;) I know what you mean about the cool air, though. It was so nice here this morning that it made you just want to RUNNNNNNNNNN!!!!

Christa -- yeah, what they said! Geez, girl, do you EVER take an uncute picture?

Dave -- funny story about the furbaby! Erica sure has your number, doesn't she?

Sunny -- I am glad you are feeling better though I'm so sorry you had a rough weekend.

Kristi -- Zach looked great!! I've only ever seen him in fast-forward mode. He looks gorgeous even when he is still!

Angie -- I am so happy for you!!! Can't wait to see you there!

Stephanie -- how are you feeling today?

Renee -- Great job for getting out there! :thumbsup2

Okay, here is the PT update I sent Howard:
Apparently, I injured my thoracic spine. The soft tissue and muscles around that area of the spine are still inflamed and my range of motion is actually significantly affected, which I hadn't noticed. She gave me one specific exercise to do to work on strengthening and straightening that part of my spine but said she can't add anything else right now because it is still injured.

I am allowed to keep doing my crunches on the ball but straight only and I am to concentrate on keeping my spine "neutral". I am not allowed to do anything with any kind of twisting motion. I can also keep doing my push ups on the ball. There is some degenerative deterioration in that part of my spine, too, which she said is unusual and is hoping to slow that down since it shouldn't be happening at this young an age (I LOVE that she called me young!). She did some very targeted electric stimulation and ice for 20 minutes and then some ultrasound as well, since the swelling and inflammation were still severe, even almost 2 weeks from when I woke up in pain. She and I both think I did something during that Thursday night core strengthening class; that my form was bad or the number or duration of particular moves might have been excessive. She was impressed when I told her the pain is 1-2, at most and it had been 8-9 because she said it is still such a significant injury that I must have been in terrible pain last week.

I really, really liked her and she is so respectful about the exercise I do now and my training and promises she'll find ways to keep me active and injury-free and even stronger.

Oh, and I knew immediately that I'd like her -- she was wearing crocs! :)

Cool! :thumbsup2

Have fun and take lots of pics.

Well hello everyone!!!

I must apologize for making it a whole month between check-ins, but I have been engaged in the ultimate of LTO tasks:

Moving!

In just three weeks time, I will be on official Floridian as we are relocating to Ft Lauderdale!! :thumbsup2 Everything has happened so fast since we got back from our trip in mid-September. I was offered a job while down there that would be a real boost for me. As I really like the city and know several people down there already, we decided to go ahead and take the plunge....

So it's been decluttering and packing and decluttering and cleaning and renting a Ryder truck and putting the house up for sale ever since. All while working six nights a week.... thus no time to check in with my WISH team. The good news is that we've gotten done everything we really need to at this point and are just waiting until that last week do our final big packing. In related great news... we've sold the house!!! After just four days on the market!!! :faint: (How we managed to do that in the current market I have NO IDEA...)

Needless to say, my training has suffered greatly, but I have got back on track this week (Training note: Today's run-- 5 miles in 49:11) and I'm actually looking forward to the back-to-back LR's this weekend (6 Sat/12 Sun).

I promise to check in more often and catch up as soon as I can....

For now, Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

PS: How odd is it that I now can say that I will be driving UP to go to Marathon Weekend?!?!

Cam--doing great around here--thanks for asking. Glad you found a great PT! That makes all the difference! Keep yourself healthy so we can see your pretty face in a couple weeks!

My Cardio-Tennis class was a blast today. I hadn't been on a tennis court in ages. We did line drills, jump roping, work with resistance bands and the stability ball--then we ran over to the court and hit forehands and backhands--then ran back over to the circuit. I think I'm going to be a regular in this class.

Oh, and I forgot to post this earlier--but here is the link to the marathon photos from the Akron Marathon that DH and I did on the 29th
http://www.runphotos.com/browse.cfm?race_id=118&bib_number=2209

Villians Rock: OK, now you must post a picture of your BF so we can assess...:rolleyes1

Stephanie: glad you enjoyed the cardio tennis class! I've never heard of it but if it was fun, enjoy!

Kevin: so very happy to see you! We've been wondering where you were. So happy to hear that you've found a great opportunity in Florida and now you'll be able to run more Disney races without the big travel expense! Nice to have sold the house too!

Stephanie -- the pix are awesome!!! Did you really finish a marathon in 4:11? OMG!!! I am in the presence of even more running greatness than I knew!!! :worship: So glad you enjoyed that class. Sounds wayyy beyond my coordination level.

Kevin -- welcome back!! And congrats on the home sale!!! Wow! That was quick. So, when's the house party in Florida!?!?!?!? ;)

Kevin - I am super jealous..I have thrown the idea of moving to FL around countless times. If I ever get the &%$#'s up to do it I'd be surprised!! Good for you though!

Stephanie - Great time on the marathon!!! WOW! I live near Akron btw!

Martha - I can never find REALLY good pics of him. See below...

l_a67c4def4d0ffe67f1e3c6b447d4db2b.jpg

He's the tall, thinner one...6'7"...lol.

Colleen - Hope the MRI gives some answers. Keep searching until you find a doctor who understands that you must run!

Leana - Cute BF!

Cecilia - I've seen those deer. I had to stop for them too!

Kevin - Congratulations on the new job and the sale of the house.

Cam - The PT sounds wonderful. Are you going to be able to do ToT? As for MB, not so good. We have a new band director, and it's her first year doing high school. Our first competition did not go well, and Annie was very disappointed after all the practice. Competition #2 is next weekend, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that they will have improved, but I'm not sure that the staff has the knowledge to get them where they need to be.

The cool weather is killing me! I'm counting the days (if not the hours) until I can run. Might need to take next Wednesday off...

Jackie

Jackie -- Thanks for asking about ToT. I will definitely be able to do it -- when I did my 4 miles Monday night, I noticed my back hurt more when I was pumping my arms when I was running. I'll just be careful if it is still tender.
Poor Annie! Jenn's marching band went through that with a new director. He put together a very simple show just because he had no knowledge of the kids' capabilities and the judges ended up "hitting" them for the lack of complexity both musically and visually. She got over her disappointment once she recognized that it was a growth year and that she could have fun even if they weren't winning. Andrew's band finished 4/6 and 2/4 at their competitions last weekend and the director was absolutely thrilled. The parents are excited that our band is the only on in our group at a competition on the 20th and we will get a first place trophy. Color me :confused3 ! Tell Annie congratulations on her hard work -- from a band mom and a former very competitive musician! :thumbsup2

Good Evening Team

You really are a chatty group, all day I have been following the thread, while I was working really hard :rolleyes1 but I don't have time to post. I am going to try really hard to catch up the best I can :confused3

Leana Your times on your workout reports are awesome. You are going to kick but at GOOFY! Very cute pic by the way (BF  )and good luck with the studying, I am so thankful mine is done for a while. In 3 1/2 years I will be studying for PE (Professional Engineer) I'm not looking forward to it.
Cindy Good luck this weekend, I'm sure you will do fine!! :dance3:
Jackie Awesome on the 2 running shoes!!:yay: You are going to be running before you know it. I know what you mean about the cooler weather, it's actually cooling off here a little and it's killing me. One thing I am learning through all of this too is we are still runners even if we can't run because of injuries - that's what i keep telling myself anyway!:lmao:
Kristi good job on the 3 even if you don't feel good and ADORABLE picture!!!
Christa LOVE THE PICS and I agree with everyone else I see NO difference!! You are amazing :yay:
Stephanie AWESOME pace on the 4 miles, glad you liked the class and the pictures are WONDERFUL !! Man I miss running :sad2: You can DEFINATLEY come scream team with me at the 1/2. You are going to have an awesome time at TOT and everything else, I am so jealous. We will DEFINATELY be there next year!!
Colleen I am so glad you keep pushing the doctors and I agree with everyone else to find one that respects what you want and what you do. Bobby's surgeon told him not to run anymore after his surgery, but that riding around on his mower that bounces him around all day is fine :confused3
Then my surgeon said it is fine we should both keep running, again :confused3
Sending lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: and :grouphug: Hang in there!!
Martha I REALLY hope that you don't have to do 20 + on treadmill, I think I would rather have my toe nails pulled out. Extreme? Yes but so is all that time on a treadmill.
Eva Good job on the run. I am exactly the same way, I love to run in that weather but lungs refuse to cooperate!!
Tricia I am right there with you on the heat. I AM SO OVER IT!! Good job on all the training.
Cecilia Good job on the run and it sounds wonderful with the Deer and all!! I always wondered about breaking up my runs, sounds like it worked out pretty good.
Sunny You are such an inspiration and I can see why you don't want to go back to that place, it's horrible. Thank you for the new design, it's awesome :dance3: As usual your strength and perserverance are SUCH AN INSPIRATION.
Lou Awesome time on the run!! Did you see my BULLS are #5 now GO BULLS!!!
Cam I am so glad that you found a doctor who respects your goals and what you are working for. Sending lots of :grouphug: pixiedust: for a VERY SPEEDY recovery. And I think it's awesome you are listening to your body, so it doesn't make it worse.
Kevin WELCOME TO THE SUNSHINE STATE!! :cool2: Hope you like HEAT cause we have plenty.

Ok I REALLY hope I got everyone!!

Obviously no training for me tonight but DH is out as we speak and DS and DH did 1 mile tonight (DS is getting ready for marathon 5K) I am so proud of him, this is his first "official week of training" -- only 2nd run and they did a whole mile without stopping in 13.5 minutes. :dance3: DS did not feel so good about it but I keep telling him he did AWESOME!! Have a good night everyone.
