Wk Of Oct 7 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Villains Rock -- :welcome: to the weekly thread. You smoked for 15 years? Did you start when you were 4? I've seen your picture -- you barely look 15! ;) Congrats on kicking the habit!!! :woohoo:

I started when I was 12 or 13...and thanks for the congrats!!

You guys are such athletes and I'm sure you will all inspire me to continue running. Who knows...maybe I'll see you guys after crossing the finish line of a marathon one day!!

I ran 5 today - 52:30. Not so great. I can run 2 or 3 miles at a 9 min pace, but can't seem to hold up for anything over 4. Ugh.

Dana - I tend to smoke every now and again when I drink also. It's hard when my BF does the same. Neither of us smoke at home or during the day...but get a few beers in me and LOOK OUT! I also wanted to mention that I run on a rail trail as well and often times feel the same way about being out there alone. It can get creepy if you think too much about it!

Christa - I see the Evil Queen stuff. You might like my tattoo design on my chest. I'd post a pic, but they take up so much space. You can see my pics on my myspace page if you'd like. http://www.myspace.com/beva216

Honeibee - Not sure if I caught your name...but that you for the warm welcome!!

Actually...not sure if I know most of your real names, so sorry if I mess em up! I'm not good with names in real life..let alone on boards.

I'm going to go buy a running book now that I'm inspired...hope you all have a good night!!

Hey everybody! Wow, this thread is moving this week!!

Today, I had a 3 miler on the schedule. When I got home from work, the weather didn't look so good, but it wasn't raining just yet, so I headed out for my run, hoping the rain would hold off!

I finished my 3 miles in 29:07 with an average pace of 9:38!! It did start drizzling towards the middle of my run, but it wasn't so bad. So, all in all, it was a GREAT run for me!!!

Now, to catch up with everyone!!!

ok, to catch up now!!!

Lisa--foam rollers are great!! I have one at school that I use a lot and I am starting to think I need to invest in one for home!!
Colleen--sorry to hear that you have to defer your MCM registration, but it is well worth it in the long run...hope the knee is feeling better soon!!
martha--WTG for getting that 13 miler in while your DH was running his half!! That is great!!
Craig--Awesome job on the half marathon. Don't worry about those 36 seconds...you had a great race!! And to think how far you have come...I would say it was an AWESOME race!!
Terri--WTG for getting back into the swing of training. Don't worry about the times!! hope the 5 miler went well too!
Angie--Thanks for the pictures!!! Great job to your DH and friend!!
Kristin--WTG on your first half!! And a GREAT time!!! Keep up with your training and you can definetely do a full marathon!
Vic--Awesome job on the 9 miler!!! BTW--how bout that Talladega race...I wasn't too happy with all those DEI engines blowing up!! hopefully, dale jr. can pick up a win before the end of the year!
Dana--don't feel like you are whining!! We are all here to support each other!
Cam--glad to hear that your back is feeling better!! thanks for the book names...I think I may try to find myself those books and read them!
Dave--glad to hear your legs are feeling better! That is great information that I would have never thought of about hydrating after a deep tissue massage!!!
lourodrigis--WTG on the LBI race!! Some of my friends were down there this weekend, and all they kept saying was that they couldn't believe how hot it was, and they felt so bad for all the runners. they really need to start that race earlier..10am is just way too late! Sorry about your Phillies!
Susie---We all have ups and downs...keep up the good work, it will all be worth it when you cross that finish line...no matter what the time!!
Renee--don't worry about the stonker..we all have them once in awhile.
Villians Rock--Welcome to the thread!!! You will love it here!!
Krista--Welcome back!!

Sorry to those I missed...but I should really get some stuff done before I fall asleep..yes I am exhausted today!!

Prior to this weekends race I didn't know this thread existed...but I like it! If you don't mind me asking, how much do all of you run on a daily basis?? I read a post (Dave I think) that said 12 miles, 18 (Lou), and a couple of 5's. The fives are more down my ally since I'm just starting out. I was a pretty heavy smoker for 15 years and just quit smoking and started running a year ago. I'm working up on my endurance slowly but surely. Two years ago I couldn't run the length of a city block, let alone a 10K in FL humidity! Anyhow...nice to meet all of you!

Villains_Rock - Nice to see you on the thread. I have run for years but never as consistent as I should. I would run 3+ miles a day about 5 times a week but would never stick to it. The races and this thread have me motivated enough to keep going. I ran 18 miles this weekend but prior to that my longest was 15 miles. Anyway, I was sore as heck the past 2 days and I thought I was crazy for doing this. However, today the pain is gone and my crazy butt was out again doing 5 miles. It's nuts but you'll find the more you do it the more addictive it gets.

lourodrigis--WTG on the LBI race!! Some of my friends were down there this weekend, and all they kept saying was that they couldn't believe how hot it was, and they felt so bad for all the runners. they really need to start that race earlier..10am is just way too late! Sorry about your Phillies!
Let me tell you...I have never run in heat like that before. It was crazy to come home and hear how people in Chicago died trying to run in the heat and know that I was out there for 3 hours in direct sunlight running 18 miles. I feel for those people.

The LBI race needs to get more organized because there was not enough water on that course for the conditions. If I run that race next year I will have to get one of those camelbacks because water was inconsistent.

Wow! I am so not able to keep up. I wanted to say that the WISH Team Calnedar is updated.

I'm flying out Friday and have so much to get through. LTO for sure.

Happy training everyone!

HELLO TEAM!!

First I want to tell you guys the wierdest thing that has happened to me.

We had a wonderful time at RFTT this weekend, but the middle of last week I was not so sure how it was going to go. Something happened in the middle of the night lasT Tuesday (a week a go) and I spent the next two days in the worse pain I have had so far (to the point of being sick to my stomach !!:confused3 ) I do not care for pain pills, I have always refused to take them but when my dad offered some percocet for the weekend (he also has back problems) I took them just in case. I still did not know how I was going to enjoy our "adult weekend" at food and wine festival doubled over in pain. OK anyway long story short I took 1 Friday night and 2 on Saturday and I swear on my life my back has not hurt since.

It is the wierdest thing. I felt so good at RFTT Sunday I kept thinking I should be out there running. It still does not hurt. I have not run in 2 weeks so I did 3 with Bobby tonight and still no pain.:woohoo:

I saw the MRI, I know there is something wrong and I still have to get it fixed, but one week a go tomorrow I was in such a dark place I did not know HOW I was going to make it through the next 5 weeks till surgery. So I am just happy that for now it is bearable till then.

Sorry for the lengthy post. I also wanted to say that as usual the Food and Wine Festival was awesome then we spent the afternoon saturday at ESPN club watching my beloved USF BULLS work their way up to #5!! GO BULLS!!!!!

Next post to follow catching up with everyone

OK NOW TO CATCH UP

First to everyone -- I'm glad you liked pictures, I was very nervous about posting them I did not know if it was "wierd" but I was so proud of everyone and it was really cool to be on that side of the race.

There is NO WAY I can catch up with everyone, but I will do my best;

Kristin AWESOME JOB ON MARATHON!!!
Dana I'm really sorry about your horrible long run this week. It's amazing no matter how many good runs we have how defeating one bad run can be. I hope the rest of your week goes much better.
lourodrigis :worship: FOR RUNNING THAT LONG IN THAT HEAT!!
I know it's vey frustrating to not do as well as you wanted but the heat REALLY makes a difference. Last year the DISNEY was brutal heat for January and it was proven when we took 15 minutes off our time 6 weeks later at the Gasparilla 1/2 Marathon, which was 20 degrees cooler at start :confused3 I think you did AWESOME!
Eva WELCOME :welcome: You will love this group they are AWESOME!
Bill Thanks for telling me who everyone is!! You guys were awesome
Duane I would not even have expected you to see me, I'm just sorry I could not actually cheer for the people I took pictures of.
KRISTA Thank you, you are very sweet. Bobby's back is actually better than ever so much so he has decided to do the Disney 1/2. And on that note this will be the 3rd race we have done for AT, but the charity has really found a special place in my heart and I would run for them no matter what.

ON that note what is really cool is that even though I will not be participating in Marathon weekend this year DH and DS - 11 are doing family 5K on Friday and now DH is doing 1/2 so we will be there

Ok I promise I will catch up with everyone else later. I have to go to bed!!

angie

Good morning all!! I'm off to the gym for a quick 2-3 miles then some floor work and weights. Then off to work for a few hours...then I'm on a mini vacation and have 5 days off!!! I'm planning on decorating. It's my favorite holiday!! :maleficen

Hope all of you have a great day!

Angie - Thanks for the welcome! I hope your back feels better untill you can get surgury. I've never had back problem *knocks on wood*, but my father has in the past and I know it's not fun.

Angie--So glad to hear that you'll be joining us in January! Let me know where you're going to be "scream teaming" your DH on and I'll meet up with you!

Krista--Glad to "see"you back around. And you have never been a former member of the WISH team-you know you'll never not be a member. Is the Columbus marathon this weekend or next? I'm thinking next? In any case, give Steve my best!

VillansRock--enjoy your mini-vacation!15 more days until ours starts!!!!

Heading to work in a few. Just checking my training schedule for today and I supposedly have a 5 mile tempo run on tap. We'll see about that. Hope everyone has a great Hump Day!

Not much to report as it was a rest day. Slept until 6:00am. :woohoo:

Hey, everyone, I heard from MSDave. He told me to tell everyone he said hello. He's having a bit of a rough time, but hasn't left us. He did 20 miles this past weekend. So let's send him a big ol' truckload of WISH :wizard: because we sure do miss him here. "beep beep beep"

Did you guys see this? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21213707/wid/11915773

OK, let me pretend to care about my job.

Hi, WISHers!

Wow, this thread is just flying this week. No way I can catch up with everyone; sorry! Seems that everyone is ramping up and getting ready for some big races. PD for all the injuries/illnesses! Hope Jackie gets a good report from the doctor today. Angie, weird with your back -- glad you got some relief! VillansRock welcome! You're from mt old stompin' grounds!

Today I had a tempo workout on the tm followed by a weight workout for my core. Funny this is I did most of the temp workout 30 seconds slower per mile than my friend who's doing the Kona Ironman this weekend will be running the marathon portion of it!! Definitely inspires me to keep going.

Happy training, all!
Renee

Here's my crazy husband on his new toy he just got last night. :thumbsup2

Do NOT look at the amount of leaves in our back yard! UGH!

Last night was speed work with the Calgary Roadrunners - 8 x 400m repeats. I should have been aiming for about 2 min per repeat, but I didn't have my Garmin set up properly to watch the timer so I didn't really know how I did until after the fact:
1 - 2:10 (included a tad of warm up still, and the first interval)
2 - 1:54
3 - 2:02
4 - 1:59
5 - 2:10 (detour off the path due to some construction, and the final one to the turnaround - boy this one was tough!)
6 - 2:07 (hey, I saved 3 sec when I turned around)
7 - 2:03
8 - 2:02
I finished up with 3.28 mi in 30:10 for a 9:12/mi pace. Of course there was some standing around resting between intervals so it isn't like I was running full out the entire time!

Ah, Judy - yes a new BF. We've been dating for about 2 months so nothing too serious yet!

Howdy everyone!! :surfweb: I'm trying to pretend to be productive. Not doing so well at it.

Yesterday was a 7 mile run for me. Way too fast. I just wanted to run it but I know it was too fast. Not good having run 13 on Sunday but that's what the schedule calls for. Since I didn't run a race over the weekend and I didn't leave everything out there on the course, I have no excuse for sitting on my backside resting for more than a day. 30 min tonight. If it isn't raining it should be nice and cool to run.

WWDave: ahem, you're SHY? I don't THINK so!! Did the inventory get done?

Leana: DETAILS girl!! New BF? Yeah, yeah, I know, you posted something about running splits but hey! inquirying minds want to know...

Villians Rock: :welcome: to our little group! Congrats on quitting smoking and getting out there to run. It takes a lot to take that first step. And your 9 min mile pace so kicks butt over what I can do that I'm already jealous!!

hockeygirl: excellent job on the run! :thumbsup2

lou: geez, take it easy in the heat! Great job but stay safe!!

angie:  thinking about you--let us know when the surgery is!

Judy: great picture of DH. Do NOT show that to my DH as he really, really wants a motorcycle!!

Lily: hope you have a lot of fun on vacation and cannot wait to see you at ToT!

Cam: how's the back doing?

Gotta get back to work. Have a great afternoon everyone!!

Good afternoon everyone!

It's been a WTO week so far.

3.14 miles last night at a 11:45 pace. 5 miles scheduled for this evening.

Laurie - One of the few Talladega races I could take a "NASCAR Nap" and not miss anything. DEI and RCR better take a look at their new engine program. Received my new #88 cap and t-shirt last Friday. I'll give the DW my racing wardrobe want list for Christmas. :rotfl: New diecast are already on preorder. :thumbsup2

Judy - Tell Charlie, nice bike.

Villians Rock - :welcome:

I'll try and catch up with you "Chattie Kathies" later. :rolleyes1

Hey all... Last night I did 30 mins on the elliptical and then 10 mins of Hills on the TM. That is all the time I had because I had to run and shower DD4 after her swim class.

Krista - OHHH it's so good to see you again! I am glad you haven't given up on running totally!

Judy - DH sold him motorcycle when I got PG with DD. He has been itching for one real bad lately, however he is more of a roadster type than a sport bike type. Tho I think he would gladly take whatever he gets at this point. Hope your DH enjoys his toy. OH, and you don't even want to see my back yard... YIKES, it's out of control 5 times worse than yours!!!

Vic - Your times are looking pretty good!!!

Angie - I am glad you have been pain free. I have had severe back pain also, so I know how it feels to have it gone!! :)

OK, work is my life... chat with you later.

Hi Everyone,

I have my half marathon this Sunday. I'm a bit nervous about it. I know I can do the miles, but I'm hoping to run around 2 hrs, so I'm putting a little pressure on myself. My runs lately have been a little disappointing. I did 15 last weekend which left my legs a bit tired, so my 4 mile tempo run mid week turned into a 1 mile tempo followed by 2 easy miles. I skipped my speed work on Friday since I was feeling tired and unmotivated. I ran 9 on Monday and hope to do 5 easy tonight and 3 easy on Friday. I'm trying to decide if this will get me to my race well rested or under-trained. I guess time will tell.

Vic: Sorry WTO. Hope things improve.

Eva: Welcome to the group.

Craig: Congrats to you on your race. You shouldn't be too upset about the 36 seconds, since you left it all out on the course that's all you can ask of yourself.

Terri: During my tough times in races or LR I like to pretend I'm giving a friend a pep-talk. I can usually be more encouraging to someone else than I tend to be to myself.

Lou: Nice job on your race. The heat must have been brutal.

Laurie: Welcome back to the boards.

Judy: I hope Charlie's new toy won't be too much of a distraction to him in his training. Be sure to remind him that LR stands for long RUN, not RIDE.

Martha: Good job getting 7 fast miles in.

Leana: Good job on the speedwork.

Renee: Good job on your tempo run. It's amazing when you see how fast others are, but then again, you're really fast compared to a lot of people too.

Angie: Glad your back is feeling better.

Sorry to all I've missed.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Stephanie - 15 days will zip by in no time!! Any big plans for your vacation?

Judy - My boyfriend is stunt rider...let me know if your husband wants any wheelie tips. ;) That is one NICE looking bike!!!

Martha - My 9 min mile boast might be misleading. That's my full on "5k" pace...and only for a 5K distance. The only time I did close to a 9 min mile for longer was when my brother in law told me he didn't think I could. Sooo..I had to prove him wrong and ran full-on for 4 miles on their high school track where they live. I about killed myself doing it too...LOL!! I'm so new to this that I haven't figured out the training aspect of it. I had just been going off a Hal Higdon chart I found online to get me ready for the 10K. Until I have another race to worry about I'll just run as much and as fast as I feel like that day I suppose. :confused3

Thank you to every one else for the warm welcome..nice to meet all of you!
