Wk Of Oct 7 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Don't let WWDave kid you! He is AWESOME! I could never walk a marathon. Running is much easier for me. WTG DAVE! YOU ROCK!
Are you training for something...WDW?

Thank you but the awesome walker is Wendy, that lady has more marathon and half and goofy medals than anyone. Except maybe the pre injury Robert.

You are our fastest running lady aren't you?:cheer2:

Dave:hippie:

Dave:hippie:

Fastest? Not sure.....most insane? YES!

Wendy really does ROCK!

Dave I want to give a BIG shout out for all our WISH walkers. A few weeks ago, I had to walk the last 4 miles of a LR and it was not easy! You would think only 4 miles???? But, I was sore in places I had never been sore from running. So lots of :cool1:  :cool1: for you guys and gals out there who walk long!
I couldn't do it!:woohoo:
And Dave, thanks for keeping this site so full of fun!:yay:

Villains Rock -- :welcome: to the weekly thread. You smoked for 15 years? Did you start when you were 4? I've seen your picture -- you barely look 15! ;) Congrats on kicking the habit!!! :woohoo:

Terri -- I am so glad you are able to get the miles in. I play all sorts of head games to get through the miles. If I am on the TM for a really, really long time, I'll watch a movie on my ipod video. I try to pick something with great dance scenes, like Step it Up or Coyote Ugly and I jog each time there is a good dance scene or good background music. It helps to cover the miles. On shorter runs outside or like the 4 last night, I'll listen to a run mix I put together. Sometimes I have to listen to the same song 3 or 4 times back to back to keep myself motivated and on a good pace. "Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray is my current great pace song.

Christa -- You continue to amaze me!

Dave -- We'll miss you today! Don't work too hard!

Morning everyone. Did 4 miles last night. It was still very hot and humid at 6pm when I started.

Susie--- I know exactly how you are feeling as I felt that way several weeks ago, I took off 4 days and went away for a long weekend. I felt much better mentally after that.

Cam--- Glad your back is feeling better.

Welcome Villians Rock :welcome:

I finally bought an MP3 player to use for my outside walks. Buy.com had rebuilt ones for $15 plus has an FM radio. My son showed me how to download CD's onto it and I was able to do that. When at the gym will continue to read my books. Anything to help with the boredom.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

Morning teammates! Going to get some xt in once I drop DD off at school. And then it's the grocery store--my life is SO glamourous!;)

Terri--Those last few miles of a LR or a race are the most torturous for me. I try to break them up into smaller chunks--only a 10K left, only a 5 K left, 2 miles left, etc--thinking that on any other day a 10K would be a cake walk. I remember at the end of the Akron Marathon a couple weeks ago, we were at the 22 mile mark, and some guy was yelling "Only 4 miles left, you guys do 4 miles on your off days!" I laughed, b/c he's right. During a training run, I do use my iPod to get me through the rough patches, but during a race I don't use it. Also, toward the end, I use the crowd support to get me through--also saying thank you to all the volunteers/police made me not think about running for a moment. The other thing that runs through my mind when I don't think I can go any further is "relentless forward motion" no matter how fast or slow, I need to keep moving forward--eventually it will be over!

Dave--Don't be modest! I agree with Christa--walking is WAY harder for me than running. And you are super speedy walking! Have fun at work today!

Christa--and yep, I do think you are our speediest female round these parts--too bad you won't be at Disney, hoping I could draft off of you--or at least try to keep up, kinda like I did with Angie at the Minnie. Guess I'll be chasing after Dana instead!

VilliansRock--Welcome! Glad you found us!

Okay, better get off here and get ready to leave the house. Have a great Tuesday all!

Hey Team... Last night was just over 3 miles on the TM... and it was good (for a TM run). I just kept saying to myself, don't wimp out and that helped me finished without complaining. We have had some weird weather here. Yesterday it was 80's and HOT, today it is high of 50's. I just know I am going to get sick, plus the fact that my girls are picking up the ickies at school!!!

Cam - Way to get back at it!!

Villians Rock... WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terri - Blisters are my fear for the Full!!! I need to gather all this info being posted so I can take a defense!!!

Angie - Thanks for the pics!!

OK, I have to go... work is calling my name, tho I may hide for a bit!

GIRL! YOU TOTALLY ARE FAST! :worship: You are totally speedier than me!
I also have a glam life! doing :laundy: and trying to pull my self off the dis boards so I can bike to DH work and pick up our car. Then run 3 on the TM then the bank so I can buy more running stuff (JK) ...so we can pay bills and then take DD7 to the dentist. PLEASE GIVE ME LOTS OF :wizard: :wizard: for that one! She HATES the dentist!:sad2: ....ooo when can I take a shower! :scared: :scared: :scared:

Gotta go for real!

Hi, everyone!! Remember me? Maybe I should introduce myself, my name is Krista and I've been running 2.5 years and I used to be a member of this wonderful Wish team, until I fell off the face of the planet! :) Oh, and the most important thing you need to know about me: I bleed Black and Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Anyway, I do have some training to report, I got in 10 miles this past week and 5 last night. I have not ran over 5 miles in about a month, so my legs were a little achy last night! They feel great today though and I realized last night how much I miss running long distances and strangely enough, how much I miss training for a marathon. I have 3 events on the running schedule (the ToT 13K, Mason Mini Marathon on 11/3, and Thanksgiving Day 10K on 11/22) so that will keep me busy for the next month! I am kind of wishing that I went ahead and signed up for the WDW marathon, but oh well, right?

Colleen-- I am so sorry that you had to pull out of MCM. I know your pain, I really do, but I think you are making the right decision! :wizard: for your surgery!

Dana--You are covering a lot of mileage! Wow!! You are going to be incredibly trained!

Villains Rock--Welcome!!!!!!!!!

WW Dave--We are enjoying the cooler weather in Cincinnati too! I'm so mad about the 90 degree weather, all this heat is ruining my favorite time of the year!!

SW Dave-- I hope you are hanging in there!

Cam--Be careful, girl!! Don't push yourself too hard!

Stephanie--This is really belated, but congrats on the Akron marathon!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Kelley--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your foot!!! Good luck on your marathon this weekend!!!!

Susie--:wizard: :wizard: for Steve's job!!

Jen--Let me see if I have this correct, you ran 108 laps on an indoor track WITHOUT an iPod? You are the woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, I was rooting HARD for the Pack on Sunday.

Craig--Congrats on the half marathon!

Congrats to all the Race for the Taste finishers!!!! :woohoo:

Melissa--HI!!!!!!!!!! Stephen and I were just talking about you over the weekend, wondering how you were doing? How is Phil? And the boy? And the dog? And the new job?? Congrats on the Century ride!!

Angie--Jeez, can you be any cuter???? princess: How was Bobby's back in the 10K?

Kristin--Congrats on your half!! Awesome time!

Okay, I know I missed a ton of people, but I am so far behind on the thread, I knew it was bound to happen. I promise I'll be around more often and I'll see many of you in 18 days!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Krista - I was wondering about you!!! :goodvibes

Ok, I just caught up with everyone, but don't have the energy to respond. Please forgive me! I have this awful cough, sore throat, bronchitis-y thing that is going around. I had to suck on cough drops through the wedding Sunday so as not to hack up my lung during the ceremony!

I am so torn. I want to train today since ToT is quickly apporaching. But with my asthma, any cold makes breathing under normal circumstances more difficult. So, I think I am leaning towards sleeping all afternoon while Zack is at school and calling it a day. I know I can finish ToT. I just think I am going to be really disappointed in my time. :sad2:

Funny story from Kristi & Rob's wedding (the other Kristi, not me):
"We are gathered here today to join Christopher & Rob...." :lmao:

And open bars make one forget all about how sick they feel! :lmao:

Krista

It's nice of you, someone from Cincinnati, to bleed for the alma mater, the University of Colorado Buffs. I proudly wore the black and gold for 4 years on the soccer pitch.

Well, I suppose you had something different mind, but I'll take it anyway.

I'll see you in 2 weeks. Give my best to Steve.

Craig

Greetings Racing Team -

My first official day of XT as I train for the Half. I did a quick (:lmao: ) mile on the TM then took the stationary bike for a spin. I'm working on putting together a little repertoire of stretching and core exercises for my XT days.

I don't know if this is a good thing or not. Sometimes I get SUCH pain in my left ankle. The podiatrist says its Sinus Tarsi and he gave me a Cortisone Cocktail right before the Minnie but I ran with it wrapped up anyway. Last night I was working out in the barn and I turned and my ankle SNAPPED SO LOUD and HOLY COW did it hurt! I honestly thought, even though I had on hiking boots, that I broke something. OMG it hurt so much! However, today it is just a little sore, but sore in a way like if you really really needed a chiropractic adjustment and you got one an you were sore afterwards way. Anyway, I kinda hope that "fixed" whatever was wrong. Wouldn't that be nice! :goodvibes

Bill - Hey look at that picture of you. You WERE still asleep!

Eva - I don't know if I ever said :welcome: but, well, there it is. Congratulations on your first WDW race! Whenever it is that you come to race at WDW again, don't you dare be shy. You're a fabulous addition to our team! :woohoo: Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. We are all at different levels, which is part of the beauty of this crazy team. I only do 3 miles 3X week then a L/R on Saturdays. Certainly don't look at Christa! That woman is a athletic MACHINE!!! :thumbsup2

Cam - Oh Cam.... How are you feeling this morning? Oh no. Easy up, will ya? You're ready for ToT.

Terri
- RW just had an article about what kind of runner are you (mentally)? I'm definitely an introvert. I need to focus and coach myself. Charlie totally tunes out, listening to his Ipod. I just can't listen to music. I need to check myself, my pace, watch where I'm going. I need to pay attention to what I am doing. but I really think there is no right way or wrong way to be when you run. Hey, whatever gets you thru the miles! :thumbsup2 Oh and on the TM I watch a movie too. We have a TV and DVD player right in front of it. I find movies with studmuffins like Mr Cary Grant or Mr George Clooney keep me mesmerized and I don't even notice when I've been on the TM for a long long time.

Jen - You're so funny! :lmao: I hope you feel better today. And BTW, you ARE allowed sick days you know.

Ohhh, Dave's working a 12 hours shift. It's going to be awfully quiet around here today. popcorn::

Stephanie - I too chant "relentless forward motion". I figure as long as I keep it moving, I'm making progress! :thumbsup2

Krista - Oh stop it now! You are ALWAYS a member of our Team, no matter if you post or not! :yay: Come on now! We are quite fond of you here! No matter what color you bleed! ;)

Krista - Oh no! You can't be sick now! Well, I guess get it over with, right? "Christopher & Rob" :lmao: I'm sorry I didn't get back to you about the spectator thing. I think since I don't know what I'm doing, I should just leave all my options open, as they say around here. GAG! Anyway, I'll be chasing Charlie and also might be helping Jenn with Heather's daughters. I should stay available in case any of those guys need me.

Speaking of Daves.... It must have been something I said to scare off MSDave. :sad1:

Christa - I know what you mean about doing these LR's alone. Last year I was at least training for Disney with a few other people who are regulars on my trail, but this year everyone is training for the 26.2 with Donna Breast Cancer marathon here in Jacksonville, so NO ONE is running the same as me right now. I think that was part of my problem on Sunday. That and my run was on a different trail where there is civilization. It was WAY too easy for me to have someone come get me. That thought wouldn't have crossed my mind out at the rail trail I usually run at, because to be honest I have no idea where I am at, I know where the trail starts and that's about it!! I was looking at the plan on tricharlotte and really like it, but what do you do in the middle of the week, it only shows long runs!!

Cam - be careful not to reaggravate that back!! We want you healthy at TOT!!

Jen in GA - This cold that's been going around is horrible. The sore throat is the worst. I hope you start feeling better soon!!

Terri - I have always used my MP3 player (I'm not cool enough for an IPOD!!) towards the end of my LR's. Helps keep my mind off of how much longer I have to go. Unfortunatley, I just lost mine here recently and I am realizing just how much I need it back!!

Villains Rock - Welcome to our group!! Congratulations on quitting smoking!! I did the same thing right before I came on here and joined this group!! I quit April of 06, and haven't gone back since. Unless you count the nights out drinking with friends, and then I have a couple, but don't ever touch them the next day!! Now if I could just get over the smoking while drinking habit I'd be straight!! This group is awesome!!

Krista - If it makes you feel any better, we are kinda wishing that you had signed up for disney too. We're gonna miss you!!

Kristi - That cold is a witch. I'm serious. Two weeks later and I am still trying to kick it completely. If it's similar to what I have had it's the sore throat, cough, but the cough never really gets in your chest just kinda in your throat. Everything is better now but the sore throat, I have been living on Cloraseptic drops and Ibuprofin for the pain. Take it easy and rest, the running isn't gonna help you any, and you have to get better before you go to TOT 1) because you have to feel better and 2) because if you give me this cold back again I am gonna be really upset!! j/k

Well, this morning I got my oldest to school, I have done 2 loads of laundry :laundy: , mowed the yard, put out my Halloween decorations, and caught up on this thread!! I am getting ready to change clothes, run 4 miles, do some Yoga (I am trying to keep this hip stretched out), and then I have to go get DS from school!! Then come football practice, dinner, and thankfully bed!! Looks like I live the same kind of glamorous life as Christa!! "O" and I still have to get the photo contest posted for this week, the folks on the photography board are going to riot soon if I don't!! I'll check back in later!!

Craig -- I'm pretty sure Krista is an NFL fan and not referring to the Buffs (or Army or Purdue or Georgia Tech, etc.) Clearly, she is a die hard fan of the New Orleans Saints. Only black & gold NFL team I know of, but her blood tests must shock the lab techs.

Hi Everyone-

Whoa! You guys are putting in some major miles! I feel left behind!

I am building up to my long training runs much slower this year. Instead of building up one long run each week, I built the mileage up on every run. So I am just now starting to add to my long runs. Its not nearly as exciting as last year but I am SO much stronger at the end of every run that it must be working. Perhaps it is just a full year of consistant training. Whatever it is, I am not complaining!

Tomorrow I am going to try something new: Splitting my midweek run into two workouts. Its the only way to get the miles in. I am running 8 miles in the morning and 4-6 more in the evening. Has anyone done this and do you have any advice?

Angie - Do you eat right after a run? You might try that to see if it helps with the headaches. It doesn't have to be a whole lot. I know it makes a huge difference to me.

Remind me to thank my husband who refused to let me run Chicago.....

Cecilia

Krista - If it makes you feel any better, we are kinda wishing that you had signed up for disney too. We're gonna miss you!!
Dana

Oh, I'll definitely be there for Marathon weekend, Stephen is running the marathon and I'm working at water stop #2. Have fun doing laundry!!!

Craig--I like Colorado, it's my favorite state and I'd love to live there. I can definitely root for them for ya! :cheer2:

NE Bill--I am choosing to ignore you. ;) (oh, I've never had any blood work done, so I'm not sure what the lab techs might think! :) )

Krista - we could always have my mom draw your blood and see what happens! (she's a lab tech)
You have NEVER had blood work? WOW!
Also, you could still do the Half with us, ya know.....there are charity spots & travel company spots.....just sayin'..... ;)
I think AT Children's Project has a low minimum fundraising requirement....

Dana- You know, if you weren't so ridiculously speedy, I'd join you in a couple of LRs since I'm only 60 miles from Jax! My mom has volunteered to ride her bike with me on my LRs only to back out the morning of... twice. It's a little lonely on the roads, isn't it?! I think I just like pushing Harry for the company...

Anyone seen the Christmas displays in stores now?! Lowes has all the trees, lights, blow up things, etc. I just wanted a paint sample, and I found myself in the middle of Christmas! So my first thought is "hello, I really can just skip putting out a pumpkin and a mum or two and move on to lights?" Then I realized that the marathon is right after Christmas and I became very, very frightened... (oh, and I wanted to go put some Christmas music on my iPod because I am extremely impressionable. :rotfl: )

Oh, and I got two new running books today, which is very appropriate since I still haven't run since last Tuesday. I bought Brain Training for Runners and the Runners' Repair Manual. Maybe I'll be inspired (or frightened, hard to say). :rolleyes1

Jen in GA

Wow, this thread is moving fast this week! I ran 10.2 miles with my Nike Women's group on Saturday, clocking in at 1:56:37 for an 11:26/mi pace. Otherwise I was a sloth all weekend - turkey dinner on Saturday and a ticket to see the Calgary Flames vs the Vancouver Canucks (and yeah, Vancouver won!!) - ham dinner with new BF's grandparents on Sunday, and turkey dinner with my brother and SIL last night. Tonight I am meeting up with the Calgary Roadrunners for possibly some group speed work.

So sorry to hear about the injuries some of you guys are going through. PD for all of you!

ham dinner with new BF's grandparents on Sunday, and turkey dinner with my brother and SIL last night.

Hold on there for a minute Miss Leana. You can't drop a phrase like "new BF" without a few more details.... :rolleyes1
