Wk of November 16 - WISH Walking and Running Club

Total drive-by, again. Sorry!

I got 3 miles in today on the track. Nothing fancy, just got 'em done.
Was depressing though. I felt ok, thought my running intervals were pretty speedy for me.
THEN, Chad would fly by me. Like he was out for an easy stroll or something.
How depressing. His final mile was 6:something.

Went up to the running store in Manchester.
Picked up new shoes for Chad and socks for both of us. They gave us running gloves for free.
And since they rang my Mom's debit card through twice, the owner gave me the "26.2" car magnet that I was buying for Chad, for free!
I love that place.

Wendy

52 days? Ugh.

Did ypga last night as my hammy' snot happy. Hoping it will be better for my planned 16 on Saturday. Given that I put in a good half Sunday, though, I'm not opposed to cuttign it short if my body says to.

Quick post..I've gotten in 25 miles this week and a hour of cross training. i been spending many hours trying to figure out where to dine March 1-8.

Happy Friday everyone! I ran 3.5 miles last night. I went pretty slowly because the sidewalks were still icy. And naturally, what would one of my runs be like without a little drama... DF and I were at a four way stop. We looked to see that the intersection was clear for us to cross and so we started walking. We were nearly in the middle when a car just stopped in front of us with inches to spare. The only reason he didn't us was because we stopped and jumped backwards. As I was yelling at him, I noticed that he had only used his wipers to clear a section of his windshield. So he probably didn't even see us. :sad2:  I thought afterward that I should have jotted down his license plate since he didn't really stop at the intersection but I'm not sure that would have done much good.

Tracy - More :wizard: for your uncle!

Carrie - Picked up some Yak Trax yesterday but was told they're only good on snow. They felt weird to run on. I also bought a pair of rubber grips for ice - I think they're called Ice & Snow but I didn't have a chance to try them out yet.

joan4mickey - WTG on the 25 miles this week :cheer2:

Kristi - Woo-hoo! Free running gloves!! I wish my running store had freebies like that!

Jackie - Hope you feel better soon!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Vicky,

Glad you're both okay and not lying in a hospital bed (or worse). See the benefits of all your exercising... you're quick on your feet!

Happy Aloha Friday Team!

Total drive by for me - I got back on Wednesday from a 5 night trip to the Florida Keys with Homestead NASCAR championship weekend stuck in the middle. I have totally sucked on my training since my half and actually am thinking of skipping out of my scheduled 15 miler tomorrow AM for Turkey Trot 5k in my town. I have been wanting to do it for the past 2 years (since I started running) but the NASCAR weekend normally fell on the same weekend. This will be the only Turkey Trot I will be able to do since next year the NASCAR weekend is back to normal and will be the weekend before Thanksgiving. I will have to try and fit in at least 13 miles sometime this weekend.

When I was in the Keys I was scheduled to do a 13 mile training run/walk but that didn't happen. I did manage to get a 3.5 mile run in and a 4 mile run/walk This was supposed to be my 13 miler but when I started out I was wearing long sleeves and pants and I started to get too hot and I saw a few scary people on the side of the road and I didn't feel like turning around and going back toward my resort. My DH called about that time and I told him to come pick me up - I kept walking about another 1/2 mile before I stopped to wait for him to pull up. I managed to do about 3 miles on the TM on Wednesday when I got home and nothing yesterday.

I can't believe we only have 51 days till we do this thing!! YIKES

Life is so crazy! :scared:

But, I did get in 18 miles this week, average pace was 10:57 so I guess it was better than last week. :thumbsup2

This morning I ran an 8 miler and felt pretty good, but my bad knee felt kinda weak the last mile. I came in and put ice on it and I'm OK right now.

Boy, it sure was a cold week. I really am not a cold weather person. That is for sure!

If I don't get back on I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. DH and I will be running a 10K Thursday morning and I'm hoping to beat last year's time. Wish me luck!

Hugs all my fellow WISHers. I'm THANKFUL to have you! :grouphug:

Tracy had no idea about your uncle- so sorry, and am sending big giant well wishes to him.

Vicky So pleased you're ok. Were you using tiggerific thoughts to bounce away from the car?

Have to admit i haven't scrolled through all the posts, just can't keep up :rotfl:

Trying to creep my miles back up- my friend (bare in mind she's done new york, london and chicago marathons) asked me to do boston with her :lmao: I've never run more than 10miles!!!!! She's one crazy lady

Happy weekend wishers- be seen and be safe on the roads!

Long story short, we spent 3 hours in the emergency room Friday night.

Princess #2 slipped and fell on the kitchen floor (ceramic tile), and split open her chin. 10 stitches.

The floor won that battle.

Ice cream sundae at midnight made everything better.

Like a good daddy, I have photos if anyone wants to see the doctor and nurse in action. LOL.

Jeff Ouch for your princess! I hope she's doing okay. Reminds me of my 7th birthday party, which had to be cut short after I slipped and cut near my eye--spending your birthday--or any day-- in the emergency room getting stitiches is no fun. Still have the scar, and the occasional story to tell! (Mostly to my sister, since I was walking in slippers she made for me when it happened!)

Maura

I think you owe her more ice cream today, Jeff! 10 stitches...wow! Poor thing...I think I should send her the cupcakes!!!:thumbsup2 ;)

The grief my wife gave me last night. See, twice I had accidents as a kid that resulted in stitches in my chin.

The first was a bike accident, racing my brother home from the candy store. I was in third grade. I hit a metal pole, and wiped out on the sidewalk. About 10 stitches.

The second time I was a ice skating accident, while goofing off with friends. I was in my senior year of high school. 33 stitches, plus I lost a tooth.

So last night in the emergency room, my wife says to the doctor and nurse. "Like father, like daughter."

She's awake now, asking for pancake breakfast. She gets a hall pass from ballet class today, and going to Build a Bear to get a new friend.

The Santa pictures we planned to take today, will be delayed at least a week.

Hi All,
Haven't posted in a while but it's getting closer so I'll start posting more. I do apologize, I haven't had a chance to go back and read all the other posts - hope all is well.

Did my 42 miles this week. I did 8 Friday night and 18 this morning. I'll tell you, this running the night before a long run really wears on me the next day.

It was pretty cold this morning so I didn't go out until 7:00 when it warmed up to 49. I wore long pants and a running jacket for the first time. Luckily I bought a nice long running outfit int he summer on sale.

Take care everyone,
Duane

Kate - I think it was more of a deer caught in the headlights :rotfl: But I like your bouncy Tigger idea better! Definitely go for Boston if you have a chance! Are you still coming to Toronto in September for the Scotiabank 1/2?

Yep yep, bouncy tigger all the way! Do you not have any bright orange running jackets? That would be perfect. I can't see how i'd ever be able to run a marathon- how's your training going? Still have a toronto place as they kindly deferred it for me, but will see what's on nearer the time. It's be lovely to see you again.

Jeff hope your princess is feeling ok, poor little thing- def deserved some pancakes!

A young man named John received a parrot as an early Christmas gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back.

John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and shoved him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arm and said 'I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.'

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued....

........"May I inquire as to what the turkey did?'

~ Happy Thanksgiving to all ~
