Wk Of Nov 3 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Someone/many people mentioned something about 10 weeks to go, so I better get going before the Queen has me beheaded or transported to a desert island for failing.

I have a feeling that you will be beating quite a few people to the finish so there is no need to worry about failing.

Martha-
Someone/many people mentioned something about 10 weeks to go, so I better get going before the Queen has me beheaded or transported to a desert island for failing.

I hereby proclaim that you worry too much. :snooty: And I order you to stop immediately and focus on the fun. :upsidedow

Well..... You guys won't believe what I almost did!! I almost forgot to go get Michael from school today! Seriously, For some reason I thought I needed to leave at 2:45 when I actually have to leave at 1:45. Luckily it was only 2:08 when DH called and asked why I hadn't left yet, and I made it to pick him up in the nick of time!!

We got back from school and Michael got dressed and ready for his run. We went out and ran 2 miles in 29:09. I had Michael stop running while he was playing football because they were practicing 3 days a week and then had games on Saturday. I didn't want him wearing himself down. Now that the football season is over this is his first day back. We had a lot of fun today, and he really seemed to enjoy himself.

Erica and I managed our 16 miler today. A cold front from Canada left us with a temp of 41 degrees with a 10 mph constant wind. We didn't have to worry about getting to hot.

I wore a long sleeve cotton T-shirt with a short sleeve tech under it. Long unlined running pants and a light nylon jacket. The gloves were off and on but the rest stayed the whole trip.

I was fine for the first 12 miles but I was getting tired by 14 and the last 2 miles seemed to last forever. But we made it total time was just under 4 hours. We haven't done this kind of distance since last fall when we were training for the 2007 Marathon.

Erica has us scheduled for a 9 miler on Monday next week and a 18 miler on tuesday. Someone just shoot me now!

16 miles in the cold is a long darn way.

Nothing Magical. The stretch is to sit down put out one leg and reach out and grap your toes and pull them toward you. You can do this with a towel if it's difficult for you to stretch that far.

The other stretches are all stretches for the achillies which is connected to the back of the heel and the foot ligaments. Hanging your foot off a step is a good one.

Ice twice a day for 20 min each time and use ultra sound to break it up. I could do everything but the ultra sound myself. I would go in 3 times a week for the ultra sound.

I have my 16 miler scheduled for Saturday. This will be my longest distance yet. I plan to go out easy because I did some serious hauling at the City of Oaks and don't want to abuse my body! Now that I'm getting into the big miles I'm starting to get scared!:scared1:
Less than 10 weeks to go and 3 of those are taper.......I can do that......I think i can, I think I can....

We did a 16 miler today and Erica did abuse me. She is evil, really she is.

I am glad to see others are getting up in there numbers for LRs as well. I did a 14 miler on saturday and it was HARD!! But I made it through and spent the rest of the day icing my knees. I have gotten into a good pattern of ice baths and icing and it seems to work well. I am still very nervous about the Goofy - but I figure my determination will get me through if nothing else.

I jogged an easy 3 miles today and felt great.

Happy training!!

Becky

Way to go everyone! Those miles are certainly adding up. I'm playing catch up but trying to get it going.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I got in 3 miles on the TM yesterday. I'm taking it nice and slow and easy as I recover from the Marine Corps Marathon. No need to push it too much at this point.

Hello, WISHers!

I finally got a good run in yesterday. 6 HILLY miles at a 9:10 pace, which is just flying for me. It felt so good - definitely runner's nirvana. (I've decided I need to do hills to get ready for the half in December.)

Today I start my new job and of course DD is sick. So I'll run her to the walk-in clinic then back home. I really need to get in a run today as tomorrow I'm chaperoning a field trip for DS from 6:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Aaargggh! Good news is that my dad is doing better and actually left his house yesterday!

Jeanne - I've got 18 miles to do this weekend and I'm trying to decide where to do it. Any ideas?

Happy training, all!
Renee

Wow everyone is up there with their miles. Congrats to everyone getting out there and getting those LRs in. Me on the other hand I am taking it slow. For some reason I still have a shin splint on the left inside. I didn't bother me much for TOT (definately goes away after enough miles) I haven't been doing much mile wise - 2 miles last Thurs, 2 miles Sunday, 2 miles Monday, rest yesterday and 1.5 miles today. Of all those days today is the day it hurts - not that its bad but its just one of those pains where you know its there - not an its killing me pain.

All this talk of the the 08 marathon is getting me jealous wishing I could be there but I definately will be at Minnie and the 09 1/2

Hello, WISHers!

Renee

Renee: OK, here's the plan.....John and I are going to park our car in the Wakefield TPC parking lot and basically do a square all around WP. If you like, I'll look up the street names. If you go around the outside of the traffic circle near the pool, it will be a 5 mile loop. I plan to do it 3 times and then add another 1/2 mile up Falls of Neuse, turn around and get in my 16! If you wanted 18, you could do it 4 times and shorten the last one by taking a side street. John is going to stop at 12, take the car and get some fresh hot coffee and bagels and then be waiting back in the TPC lot when I finish my 16 If this all works out, life is good!

So the Boogie was ticked off and didn't even show, I understand that he has decided to chow down on a few of TNT sweethearts at the January Marathon. Bill has another shot at redeeming himself at the Half.
Goofy Challanger Panda:hippie:
:scared1: Hey wait, I am running the marathon! And I am expecting to be very slow at it too. However, I expect the Boogie won't want tough old lady when he has plenty of tender young things to choose from. Remind me to find a cute young thing to run beside.

Dave- I just noticed your PR at MCM!!! WOW, that is awesome! WTG! I would still be floating on cloud nine if I had that time! I know that felt good!

I am off to the dreadmill again. So much of my running is on concrete that I decided to do one of my Wednesdays runs indoors. Lucky me, the gym has a great sauna to stretch in after my run. Hopefully I have enough music on my ipod to last 8-10 miles. If I run all 10 on the dreadmill then DH will take me to Outback!

Take care everyone!

I got a goody in the mail from disney about a 4 night 5 day package that looked like a good deal for a value resort. Here is the link:

http://us.f385.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Sh...ort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b#MAGICOFTHEMONTHA

Well the link is not working. It's $385 per adult with double occupancy. Between 1 Jan and 17 Jan. Includes park hopper and room. If anyone is interested send me an e-mail and I'll forward it to you. My email is walkingthedistance@yahoo.com. It's in a mail from Disney talking about the upgrades to the Spaceship Earth and Haunted house.

We are booked at the CBR and have annual passes so not good for us at this time but it looks like a pretty good deal.

I went to the health club for a light workout and it was closed. Big trucks were unloading new equipment, or reposessing the current equipment, not sure which. But I took it as an omen to rest after yesterdays 16 miler.

Jeanne, good luck to you and John on the 18 miler this week.

Resting Panda:hippie:

Erica and Panda(?) - Congrats on the 16 miler, I can't imagine running in anything that cold yet.

Jeanneg - Don't let it scare you!! You've done all the training to get yourself to this point and you will be just fine. Have faith!!

Becky - I love, love, love my ice baths!! Whenever I miss one, I definatley feel it the next day!!

Renee - I am so glad to hear that you Dad is doing better.

Tricia - Have you tried icing those shin splints? Whenever mine start bothering me I try and ice them 3 times a day, and they go away. It might be worth a shot.

Nothing to report since yesterday. I was going to do some more leg strength workouts today, but I think I am gonna rest my legs. They are still kind of sore (not hurt just sore). It'll give me time to get the house work done anyway!!

Also.... I have noticed that some of you are still missing your WDW race pics (ya know, the mickey's, donald's, and goofy's), since Sunny's site is down. So what I did is saved them to my photobucket account, and if anyone wants to use them you are more than welcome to.

The only one I can't find is the Goofy one. If anyone has it let me know and I can put it on there too.
